maybe forum readers may be able to shed some light on split watermans real 1st name for many years it has always been asumed it was squire but recentley someone showed me a speedway annual from the 1940s and there was a photo of a rider in germany riding forces speedway and the caption read wembleys new up and coming rider WALTER WATERMAN pictured riding in his army days any thoughts anyone??????

just reading one of the threads and some one mentioned tim bungay.tim had a long carrer inth sport riding for poole exeter and cradley heath among others.after racing tim had a plumming and heating company. he is now retired and spends all winter on his yatch in the caribbean.where the weather is warmer.he comes to england in late spring for a few months.he came in to my yacht chandlery a couple of years back fit and well

jim gleed alive and well and lives near reading until recentely (andmay still be)worked in a timber yard he did ride for the poppies and signed for southampton but never rode also rode for a couple of other clubs at s.a.l. standard

no baninster court (southampton ) does have an oakley court but nothing to do with tom and bob however just round the corner is charles knott avenue

june 1971 dragged down to poole speedway by my parent(i was a football mad 12 y.o.) to see some one called barry briggs stood on the corner got covered in shale briggo fell off whilst a mile in front mike cake won the race reidar eide 2nd poole won 40-38 the teams poole swindon reidar eide barry briggs mike cake pete munday pete smith mike broadbank bo wirebrand mike keen odd fossengen martin ashby john langfeild clive hitch derek cook jimmy gallagher i was hooked straight away and the rest is history as they say

there have been rumours flying about for a few months about garry if you go to the hacney hawks web site someone claiming to be his neice says garry passed away a few months ago ,however no one seems able to ratify this .nothing in the speedway star etc.my last know knowledge of garry was he was in jail in the u.s.a and it was going to be for quite a long period but the man is a complete enigma .how many peole can still be making headlines after all these years

john langgfield ,christer lofqvist the coloured lights round the track at poole second halfs proper internationals and riders who didnt disapear abroad all the time the poole supporters club riders rosettes and the knotts slick presentations and un complicated race jackets

well what do i know i,m only one of the leading authoritys on southampton speedway and belive me the original bluey was also called jack scott

yes there were two jack scotts ironically both rode for southampton one the early 50s and his nickname was bluey and the other jack rode in the late 50s before moving to plymouth
