50 yrs to the day and date can u remember comets fans what u were doing, i was 12 and on the sunday before mother made us go to sunday school at st michaels and we could here this noise coming fron derwent park,so we sneaked in over the infamous sewer pipe and saw out first bikes going round ,the noise and the smell was fantastic. Jeff brownhut saw us and we asked if we could get in for nothing on friday night he laughed and said stand at the pit gate and we would get in,true to his work a load of us kids got in that night and that was it we were hooked.i wish i could remember more apart from standing next to the safety fence and soon moving after the first race. Both ian and jeff are no longer with us but i and many others owe them a lifetime of memories and of course thanks to Tony mole i often wonder what us kids would have done without the comets in our school days, cycle speedway tracks everywhere bikes picked up at hanrattys scrap yard trips away to many other tracks, its a crying shame my grandkids who luved going will not have the pleasure we had as kids following our heros. so heres to 50 yrs and hopefully one day the Comets will rise again. Give us  C etc .

So you are not 100 then? :D

We are still waiting for our £20 x 2 money back from Matt for 2018 season!

Rain off or cancellation, can't rightly remember now, however Matt said on the speaker system....Send your door ticket in and you'll get a refund.... yer right.... think my refund has been used to buy a couple of rolls of paper for the Chateau La Brian....

Think I even put a stamped address envelope in...what a mug I am!!

Awaiting a defensive so called smart reply from Clive......

Don't worry he'll be back as soon as he removes his head from within Matt's posterior and he spots your post.:D :t:

I have some footage somewhere of the track in the 90s it resembled that of a ploughed field lumps and bumps everywhere it wasn't really rideable at all riders were wobbling around I have never ever seen a track look so bad

    Aren't you a Poole fan?

I don't think that they have to do that, just say that on reflection, and from comments received, they have decided to reinstate the former BB system for their disabled fans with clear guidelines. Any infractions will result in invidual removal of access with an overall totting up procedure that could lead to the reintroduction of the newly proposed scheme in future. Everyone is happy, there are consequences and management still hold all the aces.

Don't mention aces. Acef will be back.:D

This is what's it's like when Starry and Steve Shovlar stop posting (sorry, post less). The Poole thread just gets hijacked by all and sundry. :o

Ah, so that's the reason.  I thought the standard of this topic had improved recently, but i hadn't worked out why.  :)

Havvy has Poole in his heart. He's often down Poole-way staying at Matt's or Middlo's. Can't wait for the fixtures now.

That's as maybe, but without the necessary skills to do the job he will fail.

I saw plenty of Havvy during his spell at Coventry & concluded he wasn't cut out for the job , I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only person to think that either.

Yes thanks for that correction. I had forgotten about Ron Mountford. Now I come to think about it, was Ron Mountford, rather than Les Owen that seemed to be regularly getting injured , or were they both somewhat injury prone ?

Tough as nails was Ron. I remember seeing him racing with a plaster cast on his lower leg , didn't slow him down though.

I had a few dealings with him after he retired, via  his garage business, and  always  found him a great guy to chat with. When the ESO engine hit the UK in the mid 60's Ron was always keen to tell everyone how many more races he could get out of the engine before any servicing was required in comparison to the old JAP motors.:)

What were the advantages of the newer engines over the JAPs?

From the riders point of view I would say the fact that the ESO/Jawa unit was so much more reliable and would do many more races between services.

From a fans point of view, they could be pretty certain that when the riders came out of the pits to start a race that all 4 would reach the startline.:)

On that subject the flats that are being built on the site of Wimbledon stadium are looking as though they will soon be finished but the area where the football stadium is going to be built is empty! I fully expect that AFC Wimbledon are going to find they don't get the stadium they have been looking forward to for the past decade. The developers have been sponsoring the football club and my bet is the sponsorship will end just before the building starts meaning AFC Wimbledon will not be able to afford it. At that point the developers will be rushing back to get a change in the planning permission so they can drop the stadium and build more flats.

I wouldn't be surprised by that either.  The problem is that the developers have been getting away with stuff like that for so long they appear to take it for granted.

Yes. Where I used to live in London they got permission to build a giant supermarket and one of the conditions at first was a swimming baths for community use. They built the supermarket ok, but it took about 20 years before any baths were built and that was only part of some Virgin fitness club !!!

This is what always seems tro happen. They get their plans through by agreeing certain conditions , get their building done, and forget the bit that doesn't make them any cash. Swindon Speedway Stadium seems to be a perfect example of this situation.

All discussed at the three-hour-plus Local Plan hearing. The value of the site is its current value.

Hoping for the best. For too long now developers have been " railroading through" their plans using very dubious tactics & it would make a very pleasant change to see them fail in this particular case.

  12. I see Matt is advertising on the club website  for a "qualified plumbing & heating engineer" to do some work at his French Chateau project .

I do hope that whoever takes on the job understands that there will be a requirement to include an instantaneous "kill switch" for the hot water supply to each bathroom in case of any unexpected emergencies.:)

However the main reason that Brandon was made unavaliable for racing was the ineptitude of one of promoters ( or was it intractability? ) So that part of it is , yes, quite simple.

Do you have any facts to support your assertions?

Well if that isn't the case ,then will you tell us all why Mick Horton didn't complete the deal to take over the stadium lease after he stated on more than one occasion that he had an agreement to do so?

Sorry Steve, but I think you are wrong here. Three quarters of the Poole fans want this or have requested it, so I can't see the crowd going down.

I don't think it's quite that clear cut . The survey asked would the fans support the team in the championship, not do they want to drop a division.
