I visited the museum the other week on a cheaper late entry ticket and really enjoyed it and had an interesting chat with George. I recommend all fans to pay them a visit.

Great memories of our title win

    Canterbury

As much as I loved watching Canterbury I have to agree with Shazzybird that conference racing at Iwade has nowhere near the pull to get me there everytime during the summer. Even another venue in or near the city wouldnt be the same after all this time. I made a few visits to my local track which is Rye House this season but I cant get excited watching another of the old enemy teams.

    Canterbury

Permission to run was only available on a yearly basis and after many complaints, from people in house's built after the track opened, the council refused to renew the lease. Various other reasons appear to have ended any other use of the stadium!!

I was wondering what the connection was also. I never liked any kind of dirty riding by anyone no matter what team.

Weird the way so many of the "he never done a thing wrong" people slide into the background when a few others disagree with there rose tinted views.

I have NEVER laughed or cheered when a rider has crashed and have never believed others opinion of riders, Seen enough meetings over the years to make my OWN on what i saw. My point was he was not the angel a few were trying to paint him as and I stick by that opinion.

Who was the rider he rode into on the first bend that night at Arena and came off worse? Some of the posts made him out to be an angel and the number of incidents I saw him involved in showed he was far from that.

i must agree those days were far better and then Dad and me used to go to over 100 meetings a season, last year it was 4 only. Steve always gave it his best and sometimes it wasn't him falling but more experienced riders putting him down after he leapt out of the gate ahead of them.

Steve was world class over the first 30 yards and not too bad over the rest of the race at national league level.

I hope so,as long as they still do disabled parking close to the entrance he should (that long walk over uneven ground is too much for him). Would be nice if we could have gone in the old white camper van but them days are long gone!! still waiting on a time.

    powderhall stadium edinburgh

It was always one of my fave tracks to visit on Crusaders tours ,even though I remember a rain off with ONE heat to go and we were leading and also sitting in the car park in the sun an hour and a half before tapes up only for a sudden violent storm to put off the meeting. A really nice stadium and a sad loss.

    3rd Time Lucky Canterbury Crusaders!

Have I waited long enough for this thread to jerk back to life or must I wait on? Lets have some more memories of the best team of our era to keep the mighty Crusaders name alive.

The rider in the striped rugby shirt is GERALD REARDON (rode 1969,8 matchs) The other one is possibly aussie JIM CROWHURST (1969,18 matchs) Reardon is 100 %,Crowhurst about 90%. great fun trying to look these up.

    Unused Venues

waterden road has now been demolised. Following non-league football i get to see a few grounds which have a nice track shape to them but most are far too near housing.

I must sort out all my photos and send them to the Canterbury Crusaders website,as reading this forum and looking at pictures bring all the memories flooding back of the great days and other people deserve the same oppertunity.

    sort out the rule book

How about making the rules more simple and easier to understand for newcomers, the casual supporter and even the long term fans.Golden tacticles, guest riders for everybody and his brother riding abroad, rider replacement for reserves, a rider can ride for a team in this comptetion but not that one.what rubbish. The old national league had it far better, only guests and rider replacement for a heat leader and an easier race format that made sense.New rules are not always the way forward,a look back could be far more healthy.
