  1. Spot on Dave, although i find it hard to believe they said that! Can you imagine the pre-meeting planning and somebody saying, i know, if we play a silly tune really loudly while the riders are at the start and going into the first bend, the paying public wont be able to hear them, they dont want to hear those horrible bikes, we know whats best . I can just imagine the scene at Silverstone (F1 Gp) this week as thousands of fans bemoan the fact that there isnt a silly tune or jingle playing as the cars sit on the start waiting to go and then charge of to the first corner, i'll bet they're all turning round to each other and saying i wish i could hear Star Wars right now so i wouldn't have to hear those horrible noisy engines or when somebody spins off into a wall, wishing they could hear the Family Fortunes buzzer noise!! Same for Moto Gp or any other sport really, imagine doing that for the first 5 mins of a football match. It belongs in the WWF and maybe the circus. I cant believe what im reading on here at times, is it any wonder that Speedway is not taken seriously by anyone else when this sort of tacky nonsense goes on, look around at all the serious sports and tell me how many use music in such a corny way. Atmosphere is generated by the crowd and the music should be there to fill in the gaps between the races, best Gp ever was last year and why was that, because we had a British winner and sensational racing, nothing what so ever to do with the music etc etc.
  2. Thanks for replying superbart, have you an answer for the above question please. Looks like no change then
  3. Thanks paulr, took me ages to come up with that name . Dont know about paulco but im unusual in that im Ipswich for speedway and Norwich for football . Thats to do with the area im from, as thats closer to Norwich but Ipswich is closest for speedway.
  4. Good point dave, Is superbart going to answer any of the above criticism though or will that not be mentioned in the email to Img? In particular i would like to know why on earth it was thought to be a good idea to play music over the riders at the tapes and even into the first bend? Sorry for banging on about it but it really annoyed me and i would like to know the reasoning behind it.
  5. Yes i agree the kids will like it, i know as i took a 12yo last year and he loved it. However it didnt make him want to go this year or make him want to go to another meeting and to be honest if they think all speedway meetings are like the gps they are going to be seriously underwhelmed when they get to a league meeting. Dont know what you meant by the old timers tag, but dont see any posts harking back to the good old days and i for one love the Gp's. I took my Dad, who is 70, to his first Gp Saturday and he loved it and his first meeting would have been in the 50's, so you wont hear any it was better in the past nonsense from me.
  6. Fantastic post Mr Ore, it did seem like the "Mc's" friends had taken over the thread. Like the "is there anybody from Mildenhall" quote as it puts me in the mind of those "fantastic" party nights at Butlins and come to think of it thats all this music was fit for. Agadoo doo doo ffs
  7. First things first, loved the meeting, the atmosphere (not the sound effects/music though) and the occasion, the racing wasnt as good as last year but i doubt if it ever will be as good as that again. As for the track, yes it rutted up as it always does but i would have thought the riders should have the knowledge and skills to get over this. The track looked really grippy which is surely what you want for passing etc. A lot of riders looked like they couldnt even turn their bikes which just shows that they want smooth, slick tracks which they can ride flat out with little or no passing. The first 3/4 heats shows what you would get if the track was like that all through the meeting, follow my leader racing. Im not condoning dangerous tracks or wish to see anybody hurt but if all speedway was follow my leader we might as well shut up shop now. Look at Greg, he didnt look in trouble all night, in fact he looked like he was in his armchair most of the time, which just goes to show what can be done with a bit of thought and experience. Apart from the music the only other thing that annoyed me was the amount of aggressive, drunk fans. Last year i witnessed a fan throw his drink over another after an argument which would have ended up in a fight had the stewards not spotted in and ejected him. This year, i went to the toilet during a break and there was a Polish guy with a bleeding nose which had obviously been caused by a punch going by the peace makers around him trying to calm him down. Imo its only a matter of time before there is quite serious trouble at one of these gp,s. My mood was not helped by sitting next to a load of clowns who kept getting in and out of their seats to get more beer then more getting in and out to go to the toilet, then spilling most of their beer on the floor so you were paddling in it, luckily there was some spare seats behind us, so we could move away. What on earth is the point of spending all that money on good tickets and spending all your time back and forth to the bar and in the toilets as they missed several of the races. As for Nicki, dont like the bloke as i feel he crosses the line between hard and dirty to often, but still dont feel he deserved all the abuse, it should have been directed at the ref.
  8. Just registered as i had to reply to this topic. I have to agree with bobbin along and chris and feel that the music was awful, cheesy and naff are the words that spring to mind and to be honest it nearly, but not quite, spoilt the night for me and my party. I accept that you have music to fill in the gaps between races but does it have to be so loud that you cant talk to the person next to you without shouting down their ear. As for playing music over the riders at the start, give me strength!! After a 300 mile drive to Cardiff i want to hear the bikes at the start not Star Wars or whatever other strange tune you thought would be better than the sound of 4 speedway bikes waiting to start the race. Its a speedway meeting first and foremost, not a circus where sound effects are needed and dont get me started on the flame thrower things lol. The songs for each rider were an embarressment and that stupid game show noise when the the red lights came on for whatever reason was equally as bad, what if somebody had seriously hurt themselves falling of and you were making fun of it,wouldnt have been quite so clever then would it. To sum up for me, obviously you need music but turn it down so we can talk to each other. No music at all at the start or once the riders reach the tapes. Its the best speedway riders in the world, it doesnt need messing about with!! Before anybody tells me im a boring old git, im not that old and i love music and im still a regular gig goer, in fact im taking my oldest daughter to Twickenham Saturday to see Iron Maiden (not my cup of tea but id rather listen to that than aga doo). Im a fan of all things indie, punk etc so its not that i dont like music or loud music its just a matter of the time and the place. Btw hi everyone
