  1. We've strengthened up ! Worse than a man short this season.

    Fire At Glasgow

Alun and Gordon own the club. The directors only run the club on their behalf. Having had the day to think about it, its straightforward that Glasgow Speedway does not bring in enough supporters and money to break even. No-one in their right mind would continue to do that year after year. The £50k loss over the season I'm sure includes one off costs such as track fixing and buying the bar area however it is a significant amount. The team needs strengthened next year, particularly a new No 1, thus more money needing spent that is not there. The owners, new and old have tried to bring more people through the turnstiles with negligible success. As our standard of living in this country is constantly being eroded people have less money to spend, something that is acutely noticeable in the Greater Glasgow area, as has the amount of money businesses have available for sponsorship. It just isn't there anymore. The level of excitement and entertainment in speedway has also been declining for 4 or 5 years as laydown machinery is far too fast making gate and go the norm at many tracks, I've witnessed plenty and not just at Glasgow. The PL this year has also had many poor teams built for home wins only, ourselves included, that provide poor racing if any on the road, again ourselves included and there is the added gripe of absent riders aplenty, like Plymouth the previous week minus their 2 Danes everyone wanted to see. All in all it seems the time that Glasgow may have come to their natural end. The new owners have simply prolonged that period for another year. Having digs at them astounds me, the bring a friend issue apart, they took over when no-one else would. The team they built was weak but still lost a fortune. I've more or less accepted that Glasgow Tigers will not appear next year, if they do, I'll be there but can't see it.

    Glasgow 2014

Incredible when we only reached 45 points on a handfull of occasions and there was talk of riders coming back for 2013 having to take a pay cut. Vicious circle of sh1te team from the off and punters put off.

    Glasgow 2014

And its currently pissing it down so would have been less well attended than normal. Time to close this season once and for all.

    Glasgow 2014

Those two would make decent starting reserves, its the rest especially recruiting a new No1 that will be the challenge. Joe Jacobs needs to find a home track he is suited to. Henning has been a massive let down this year and shouldn't be back. Hard to come up with 5 riders names as replacements though.
  6. I would happily start the season with Thomsen and Ringwood at reserve but have them under no illusions that they must perform - Anders mechanically and Ringwood points wise - he is hopeless when he doesn't gate. Henning I would only have back if as a reserve, he is totally frustrating as you know he is far better and more often that not doesn't show up in his first ride. Thereafter is anyones guess!
  7. The Fours and PLRC are both on a Sunday and we also don't run on the Sunday of the British GP. That's 3 weeks we cannot run plus there is also the other Sunday club of Newcastle who we seem to meet twice home and away during a season. The shared events really piss me off, I have no interest in them yet their weekend scheduling season after season negatively affects my team.
  8. You have to make your own judgment call whether to go or not based on the weather forecast you see, not what you are told from others, official or not. I learned that a long time ago after wasted journeys to Worky and Edinburgh. I decided last night not to go based on the weather warning just the same as I did for the first Ipswich match that was stopped after ht4. More often than not it has been the right decision. Glasgow had little to lose today, Plymouth were already coming, Anders would already have taken his flight and it was the last PL match. Also being Grieves last proper home appearance may have made people think about going anyway. I think we are paying the price for having 4 weeks between home meetings in July when we had glorious sunshine, perfect for speedway, if a little dusty. One Sunday was the PL Fours however if no one would come for the other Sundays fair enough but we need to be smarter about it in 2014 by not accepting something like this.
  9. Are you suggesting we won't be entertained royally this afternoon?
  10. I hope they got the name of the person in the Met Office because the forecast on their website certainly doesn't reflect what the email says . More likely a case of last PL match of the season, Plymouth are travelling up anyway as they are at Newcastle tomorrow so get it on regardless.
  11. Rain off virtually guaranteed. Weather warning for high winds and heavy rain for Sunday & Monday.
  12. Been saying that most of the season, how we have escaped a fine is incredible. Even James Grieves has taken 1.5 points off his starting average in what must be his worst season in speedway. A quick look at the new green sheets shows Anders on 3.53 effective from today, unbelievably he is still too high to be at reserve, where he deserves his chance! The only surprise is Bager still commands an average over 5, surely the BSPA calculator is playing up.
  13. Interesting point. He was withdrawn on Sunday after being concussed with a head knock. Do riders still have an automatic 7 day ban for this or does it only apply in the UK?
  14. Also reflects the standard of rider on show, both teams aren't bottom for nothing.
  15. Wonder if Anders withdrawal today will count for his average. Today was his 9th match with Plymouth home in a fortnight being his 10th. Is it 10 matches for an average, 12 for an asset? No doubt Berwick are watching the situation !
  16. Finally a Sunday without a home defeat. Based on the racing a draw was a fair result however 8 points from Maassen r/r more than helped Sheffield to a draw. Albin looked decent after a poor first ride, working hard for his points. You could be forgiven in some heats for wondering if it was Bager who had never seen the track before. Ringwood was excellent when he gated, four race wins by ht8 then not a lot thereafter. Dakota North also looked much better. With one more PL match left for Glasgow, regardless of how it finishes we will end the season with single figure points, and deservedly so!
  17. Lamberts double figures came during the single lane season of 2010 when if you gated there wasn't enough track width to get passed. Can only see a repeat of two weeks ago, hopefully !
  18. Doolan being injured could save us from another hiding. Lawson and Wells are thoroughly decent at Ashfield and Compton looks to have picked up since he joined Sheffield. Thankfully Lambert isn't decent and Albin will be a bit if a mystery. Whether we can win the reserve points though remains to be seen. Glasgow are still far too sh!te and inconsistent, and can only see another away win.
  19. Glasgow must be running out of work permits! Full clear out next year, genuine No1, no assessed averages, full points allocation used from day 1.
  20. That was brutal today, consistently outgated in another dismal display. Some harsh words from Stewart Dickson when interviewed, all ring true. Thomson is a passenger at No4, though he's following by example with Bager. Dakota North got stuck in and tried hard just Lanham was too cute for him in ht10. I agree also that the riding order is wrong, North should be at 4 with Thomson at 2. Next week when Sheffield come, some carefully selected guests for them could give us another similar scoreline. Hopefully we can get a better guest than Lemon!
  21. And the fans, wrong decisions made at the start of the season, though crowds are still healthy. The track, facilities and entertainment have all improved but team building lessons need to be learned for 2014.
  22. Hopefully rattle a few cages and get the best out of the underperformers. He may have his work cut out with Lemon though !
  23. Will probably have to be a Monarch with Berwick, Worky and Newcastle all riding tonight. Sounds like Vissing took a battering last night so who knows!
  24. If its r/r for Screen, Ipswich will have a field day.
