    Calling All Former Wimbledon Riders

Iris123, i dont know keef or his friends from california, or texacali, but in the recesses of that which is left of my brain, i seem to remember college girls.. has a certain ring to it anyway, cant remember why tho.. capn morgans rum erased a lot of things.. i know nothing.. ahem.. as i watched the sun rise over the cortez sea, i looked at my boat anchored not far from me. from behind the bars on the window i see, some local bas**rds stealin my dingy from me.. i vowed revenge, right then and right there, to retrieve my dingy from those bas**rds theivin, pirate lair.. sandmans revenge is swift, and rightgeous indeed, i broke outta prison and cut their throats with exceptional speed..i got to my boat and made some headway,....( laughin at the mexican coast guard, who would have to wake up,) to fight another day..i gave em the finger as i caught a good breeze,... said hasta manana ,the yucatan,.. if ya please...if that.. doesnt give ya a license to chill, nothin ever will my friends.. i once met stinky carruthers in mexicali bout 20 years ago iris123 does that count? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ya gotta be careful out there though.Friend of mine was driving through Calexico, cruising along and the bu###rs chopped his arm off for the Rolex he was wearing.Thing is it was a dud bought from a fella from Singapore :oBut hey,the watch wasn't a problem he had planty more in the car it was just his hand was holding his passport at the time.Would have all worked out fine coz he also had plenty of passports only a pasty faced guy from the Donegal Gaeltacht can't pass as Jose Luis Fernando or Jesus Gonzalez, can he?The arm? No worries ,was dropped a few hundred yards away, just stuck in in the ice box and he already had good contact with a plastic surgeon in Santa Fé. Only deadlines have to be met and the people he was doing a job for don't take kindly to detours being taken even to re-attach loose limbs

    Speedway...

Yeah, was always a bit puzzled by the link.Went to a few Redskins matches back in the 80's But it wasn't what i expected. It bore no resemblance to the razzamatazz the sport had in the US/Canada.Seems they have got it right here.It is one big show. The big screens help of course. They also have good merchandise and sell it in the city centre. They are soon to be getting their own show on t.v as well WAs also interested to see plenty of freebies,T-shirts shot into the crowd and one lucky fan got a Canon camera. The players are also out doing autograph signings regularly. One today and one tomorrow i noticed advertised yesterday. Also the arena is hosting a round of the MotoX Freestyle World Cup in May.Plenty of advertising in advance being done and i reckon it will be on Eurosport.Unfortunatelly speedway doesn't seem to be able to attract much attention
  8. Was wondering if he was still recovering from his illness the other week and wanted to make sure of being top fit for the semi.Better for him to concentrate on the Individual title as a trip to Krasnogorsk wouldn't bring more than a 3rd place if they really performed well. They could have just put in a Russia 2 side like in the speedway last year
  9. Seems like Austria have dropped out and we now have Team Europa as a replacement H.Simon M.Zakharov I.Drozdov

    Speedway...

Just back from a visit to a lovely stadium, with plenty of room, good facilities, decent catering and a 10,000+ crowd for the visit of one of the bottom clubs(fridays match is a sell-out,couldn't get tickets for that),great atmosphere and i must say professional staging and exciting match, although it didn't always maintain this throughout. The crowd was also friendly and quite like the make up of a speedway crowd must i say.The sport,Ice Hockey.Had no real tradition here until the new stadium was built a couple of years back and the franchise from Munich was bought. The guys done a tremendous amount of good work publicising the thing and kapow one of the best supported teams in Europe, averaging about 11,000+,and thats a team that is half way down the league of 14.Just goes to show if you know what you are doing....

    The First Eso/jawa

Interesting bit in Chum Taylor's book saying he went to Prague in early 66 and there was a 14 day waiting list to get into the factory. He wanted to pick up some spares for his bike, but left without getting to the place.

    The First Eso/jawa

Bit too hard for ya? Seeing as the man with the technical web-site had already said Ove rode one in 61.Either he is wrong or VSM is wrong. When did Butterfield first ride for Newcastle? Have to get Jim Blanchard to ask Ove if he remembers when he first rode one i guess
  13. iris123

    The First Eso/jawa

No,just thought it might have given a date.He rode for Middlesbrough 63 -64 when it is possible he was the first if the date for Ove is wrong in 61.But if we are talking 65 then it doesn't seem right as Briggo say's Ove had already ridden one before 65? Wondering if one of the Polish riders who came over had one,Zyto,Teodorowicz ?

    The First Eso/jawa

When was that then. While he was riding for Middlesbrough?
  15. Don't know what happened to f-s-p,so the results can be seen here

    Speedway...

I agree and have said before a number of times, one of the biggest problems is the fans.To see a bunch of speedway fans is like looking at society's mis-fits.It hardly helps that speedway is staged at places like Mildenhall,Peterborough,Arena-Essex.....It's all set up not to be attractive to a large and young audience. It is well made for the camper van,deck-chair,jacket covered in badges with year bar brigade

    Speedway...

Must be very close if football is more popular.See here football has increased by 2.7%.From what i remember of the speedway figures they hold up quite well in comparison

    The First Eso/jawa

Yes.Just reading an extract from his biog, and he was invited over after winning the World Title in'64,given the full works and asked to test the bike out and report back on possible improvements.Seems through the season he had trouble with it and was in 2 minds whether to use it the Final '65.Did and it played up a bit and he finished 4th.So from that i reckon he was a bit before Ivan but as he says Ove had used one before him. Edit:Maybe this confirms it Ove But it is a comprehensive site. Was a good history at one of the Exeter sites but they have changed it recently and the Jawa/Jap bit has gone

    The First Eso/jawa

Don't know, but wasn't Briggo riding for the factory before Mauger? Maybe Ove Fundin was the first.Briggo mentions him as riding one before he got a contract

    The Last Jap Engined Machine?

In Backtrack mag it mentioned Dag Lovaas staying with the JAP at White City(76).Maybe what you saw

    Rip Alan Cowland

Sad to hear .Remember him,and think he was well thought of here in Germany.Wasn't he one of the first Brits along with R.Mouncer who came out to ride in the Bundesliga?
