Must say that i always remember him with the long flowing locks, but looking back in my photo collection he went through hairstyles like Beckham

I went to the Junior Championship at Canterbury in `85,won by Carl Blackbird. The line up included Silver,Andy Smith,Galvin,Simon Cross,Gary Havelock and Jamie Luckhurst.Add to that Martin Dugard,Joe Screen ,Loram and a bunch of youngsters at Eastbourne. What with Kelvin Tatum and Simon Wigg who were a few years ahead and at the time i really thought England were going to dominate speedway for a decade at least. Its never easy to tell how youngsters will develope of course and i guess to get 2 World Champs from that bunch plus the Longtrack titles as well makes it one of the best if not the best generation but the trophy cabinet isnt as full as could be expected. And out of them i would have imagined Andy might have gained a major title or 2.

Jan Gravningen and George Major were also quite good

The story of the 1st GP ?
iris123 replied to gillam's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I thought the GP`s had to be held in big stadiums as well as big cities 15,000 capacity isnt that big.Excuse my ignorance on the matter ,is it always so poorly supported in Sweden?what do they get for a league match? -
Must say he has impressed me so far .So have Wölbert,Smoli and Bartz.Schade that Danny and Smoli were in a different competition to Matze and Hefe on Saturday. It would have been good to see them all race together. Was a bit disapointed with Limberger at Brokstedt, last year he was really flying there until he fell. With this rule that the reserve rider must be given 2 rides most other teams are at an disadvantage but at Brokstedt,Güstrow just gave Möller one ride then put Danny in He outscored the other 3 reserves together.Droßmann is a poor reserve for Brokstedt,i guess Sönke is too good for reserve? Think your 4 teams are correct for the final Do you know which team Hefe is riding for ?Is it correct he is riding individual meetings for Güstrow, but not in the team?

German League - Round 3
iris123 replied to German Speedway Fan's topic in International World of Speedway
Brokstedt were a bit unlucky as both Gjedde and Wolter suffered engine problems when well placed.Charlie seemingly had the race in the bag.Mirko had just gone past Smoli .Then Kröger was leading and wheelied out of the turn and just about kept control but lost 2 places. What should have been 12 points from the first 4 races turned into 4 points seems Ronny Weis broke a leg.Kral seemed to pull up fast down the home straight and Ronny ploughed straight into the back of him.quite nasty hope he`s back soon Positions Brokstedt matches( 3),m.points (5),race points 99 Olching (2),(5),75 Parchim (2),(3),54 Güstrow (1),(3),37 Diedenbergen (1),(2),53 Stralsund (1),(0),22 Neuenknick (1),(0),20 -

Wild cards for Prague GP
iris123 replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
That was the reason. Its been in the press here for quite a while, but like you say everyone was expecting it to be Schultz or Wolter.Someone who does concentrate on speedway and at least it would give Matze some experience for the future. But it is reasonable to expect the Czechs to want to choose the rider they think will be the biggest draw and as Barth is a World Champ and still the best speedway rider in Germany, thats what happens. Like i said before this could happen more in the future where its which country has the money dominates especially if the company that holds the rights nomnates the wild cards -
British Rail from South Bermondsey to either London Bridge or Clapham and change to the tube would have simplified the journey

All about money .They want as many german fans to come as possible -
Know what you mean My mums family came from Walthamstow and it was a real family day out to go there.Just like going to Canvey Island. There would be at least 2 car loads leaving Wandsworth and it seemed to take forever. Tried once to find this gathering at High Beech, ended up walking around Epping Forest but didnt see any speedway supporters

German Junior Champ/Ludwigslust
iris123 replied to iris123's topic in International World of Speedway
Both Schultz and Knakowski suffered engine problems when in second place.Wölbert(14 years old) also battled well for his points. In heat4 he clashed with Wienke and could only cruise home for a point. He then fell trying to chase Matze and gave Hefenbrockhis only defeat in the main meeting after a good battle.Matze proved his class by beating Hefe in the semi and final(coming round the outside,Hefe fell and when the race was restarted Schultz done it again)although finishing with less points because of his e.f In the B-Lizenz Matze Bartz was unstopable just like at Güstrow the other week, but a special mention must go to Enrico Sonnenberg who was always battling for his points from the back No crowd figure given but i would guess around 400,maybe less -
