Just seen the programme from last night GSF and the A-Final does look good.Just a pity they concentrated more on crashes than racing.Far too short as well

If anyones interested and has access,there will be a report on sunday night 21.00 on the ice speedway finals in Berlin,on RBB Brandenburg and probably RBB Berlin.Most probably most of the programme will be taken up by Football but some ice speedway will definitely be shown

I would have thought a place in the USA side had to go to Scott Autrey .Personal opinion i know but through riding ability alone i think he was riding against far better opposition than say Billy Hamill and if it wasn`t for his determination to battle it out against the speedway authorities we might not have even heard of Penhall,Ermolenko etc.Lied to when told he could enter the World Championship in`73 and then basically ignored by the U.S authorities because he stayed here.Was it Mauger or Briggo that had to battle for his inclusion in the U.S side when the World Troupe visited.Superb rider .And no Aub Lawson?

GSF, did you see that chomisewitsch had a try out in Hamburg last month and we might be having an Ice speedway meeting here next year Also seen a report that they are thinking of putting ice speedway on at the AOL Arena .50,000 capacity stadium.If they can put Ice Speedway on there maybe they could put a Speedway GP on as well?

That`s right Gredon,i thimk they nearly choked on their wurst when told how much money BSI wanted It`s a matter of finding a major sponsor to back the GP.I think there was also a bit of regional politics at play as the major backer is the ADAC(the german equivalent of the RAC) who are based in the south but the main fan base for speedway is in the north,Mecklenburg-Vorpommern(Güstrow,Teterow,Stralsund,Parchim,Ludwigslust) and is quite a poor area.Unemployment there is curently 21% compared to 10% in neighbouring Schleswig-Holstein,Niedersachsen or Hamburg

You just have to look in the Speedway GP section under Golden Helmet Pardubice and the answer is there ,as someone asked the same question just a week or so ago

Apart from the well known Dirk Bogarde film any one ever seen other films with speedway featured?.I know there were a couple from the 30`s "Monday for speed" and "Brittannia of Billingsgate" filmed at Lea Bridge and featuring Claude Rye,Ron Johnson and Tom Farndon among others.

Think Sverre has to take second place behind my first hero Olle,who averaged 10.40 in `66 .Could also put Ray Tauser in there and my grandad always talked about Billy Lamont.He also talked about the great Lammy and how West Ham were always trying to put him over the fence As for Tom Farndon ,Norbold if i`m not mistaken somewhere in the cellar i`ve got a programme for a Farndon memorial trophy,but i thought it was held at Plough Lane! why would that be? or is my memory failing.Ill have to get down there and sort it out!

On another thread i said it was crazy that the British GP was on the same weekend as the Euro Championships start in Portugal!what chance have you got of getting any results or publicity? Also the sport has to sort its self out before it can really gain and grow from television exposure.People in the sport have been pointing out the ridiculous and confusing rules that make the sport a joke.Back in the 60s it was pointed out that in one week Colin Pratt rode for 3 different team(inc for West Ham vCradley and then for Cradley vWest Ham !).Does it still happen today? And i must say as a recently returned fan i`m finding it a bit difficultworking out everything thats going on.This golden joker lark in just laughable!

Why isn`t it possible to have a speedway track at Brands or Silverstone? Too expensive? Brands Hatch used to be a grass track centre and was owned by an ex speedway rider,for instance.Also what about Lyyden.Is it still there? Santa Pod the drag racing place is that still there?
