Duplicated thread. Already in Speedway General Discussions.

He should never have travelled back but the Russian authorities always feared that Russian people would ask for political asylum if left.

I was sitting on the 4th bend when Vitalij had his accident. He was in last place and the other 3 riders were passing the start gate when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw bits of the wooden kick boards flying up into the air. It was horrific and Vitalij was badly injured. He was rushed to hospital but due to your political situation at the time, he was flown out at 11 o clock the following Sunday morning despite his terrible injuries. So pleased to hear that he is still alive and well, because I am not sure whether he ever raced again. Could you advise.

Great to see you posting on this forum. Not too sure if a Russian fan has posted in here before but you are certainly a welcome visitor. First of a few I hope. The riders you quote plus Kadirov, Gordeev, Kurilenko, etc, were wonderful riders, were very exciting and certainly opened up a new era for your nation. With some of the recent successes it could be that your nation is at the stage of another good era. Best of luck with your speedway.

In addition, Ivor Brown always rode with a white shirt over his Black Leathers in the early 60's. He always looked the more prestine rider of all time as both he and his bikes were spotless. Still remember his races with Ivan. It was best to keep out of the way on track or you could get injured for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
-
My mistake as I missed out that it was just 1964. Just checked our History site, run be dantodan, and yes it was Ivan.

Brian Craven.

Thanks Nevs, that's the devilish smile I remember. Fancy meeting that smile in a pub. HELP.

Remember seeing him riding for New Cross and also at Newcastle. Was really scary looking when he smiled with them flashing teeth, beard and wide open eyes. Did he also ride for Plymouth ?

Certainly Ernie Baker of Wolverhampton fits the age thing. My guess.

Poole Vs Newcastle.knock Out Cup Final,2nd Leg
Tsunami replied to e,skidz's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
A fair result given the result at Brough. Although the rules for team eligibilty are, or appear to be, non existence, the purpose of the AL was to give even more younger riders a chance to ride in an organised team/league event to accellerate(no pun intended) their progress. As an objective I think that has been achieved and I hope the powers that be repeat the whole thing next year. With more and more competitive experience the riders will reach their expectations even quicker. Once again, congratulations to the young Poole Pirates team on their success. -
The same could have been said when Harris made the GP's. So what's your magic formulae for replacing retiring riders with even better riders. BSI and I await with interest.

Totally agree. I can't believe that there are some on here that are trying to defend Scott's action or think that it is justifiable. It was a desperate move by a man trying to qualify but it was crude and unfair. The ref should be taken off the circuit of GP refs for such a blatant miss of the incident. Most noticable, the number of riders that patted Chris as he walked throught the pits, it showed the other riders had a lot of sympathy for his situation. It certainly should be Holta and Chris through with Nicholls sweating on a wildcard.

Who's Going To Cardiff

No argument there then. -
Real name Maury Mattingley. Good hard rider in the 60's who also brought out a new range of frames with strong looking new design headstocks above the front forks.

2008 Grand Prix Series

Just about to post that but of course he doesnt ride for Wolverhampton. -
Congratulations to a true world champion. Being an ex Diamond makes his progress all the more satisfying knowing that Newcastle had a hand in his progress, something that Nicki himself is quick to acknowledge. He has improved so much this year and taken a more mature approach but I think the real key to his success is his great advantage out of the starts. I think even Ivan would be outgated by the new world champ. I look forward to cheering him on in Germany when I am sure he will be just as focussed and wanting to also win that $100,000. By the previous posts, he seems to have won over many fans who previously had reservations about him. Nice to see him getting this new adulation. Just lupus to go now by my reckoning.

.....and me, Seating in the mid layer on the 1st bend. -
Brilliant result tonight for ex Diamond and ex house mate LUBOS TOMICEK. Bet SCB will be pleased for his non favourite rider. He may be off the pace next year but the year and his increased preparation will move him up a peg in the standings. He has already starred in 2 Marketa outings so it is time now to do it in the rest of the series. Bet jackieb, Byron and Jade will be over the moon at the little fella. GO LUBOS.

Hi Spinny. Didn't some big rider marry his sister. I have a name but don't want to post it.

Sorry Bob, I meant that he was a track man at Newcastle at some stage.

Was John Dews not a good track man as well. Seem to remember he had a spell at Newcastle.

The Garry Stead Benefit “grand Prix”
Tsunami replied to Phil's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I think so. Bob Tasker who films Worky, Us and Redcar was extremely busy filmimg everything last night. I believe he has already produced a best bits of Garry DVD which has been out a little while and the proceeds will go to Garry. I will post details when I get them or I would expect Bob will be on here to advertise it himself. It should be worth buying.
