The issue is that hardly any families go, so "special" targeted offers are needed..

The 'die hard' middle aged (and older), people will still attend as they have shown week in week out..

And never mind double amounts needed, to make it pay, you can have a million times no families attending, and you still have nothing...

As for 16 to 18 year olds? Let them in too for nothing...

These people dont attend, so expecting them to go somewhere and stand with your dad and grandad is pretty much a non starter for the vast majority of them..

Teenagers hunt in packs with mates so let as many in as want to come..

You are not losing a penny by having them there, and it might make the crowd seem bigger so give some atmosphere..

And you will sell some burgers..

And might, just might, get a few to take up following the sport later and pay to get in..

And the ones that pay now, finding out that the kids running around get in for nothing, will soon get pissed off and stop going. Not exactly a good business plan is it.

    Back to another blackboard.

Like you say it's mostly if have couple of assessed riders in the side. We had it with Josh G in Mitch Davey, put Mitch in main body and Josh at reserve on basis he was probably the stronger. Certainly panned out that way, although Mitchell was severely hampered by injuries, never got a proper crack at it

Certainly having Josh at reserve it certainly gave you good options when his real class was starting to show. Very sorry for Mitch and how injuries affected his career. A nice lad who lost his career though injuries.

Glasgow's team total is 41.99, not 42.00, not that it matters as 42.00 is still acceptable.

Green sheet averages only go to 2 decimal places. At the beginning of a season, if 2 or more riders are on the same (usually assessed) average, the team management declares the seniority of the riders. Thereafter, when the averages change, if there are 2 or more 'tied', the previous seniority is the prevailing factor.

Correct. In the early 00's we had 3 3 pointers in the proposed team, and we had to select the order of those riders so the highest went to No 2 and the other 2 went to No's 6 and 7.

Doesn't happen very often but they have to be ranked for team places and seniority.

I am not quite old enough, but I believe the 'Provincial league' was a 2nd or maybe 3rd division league? I was speaking to a friend of mine recently, who keeps up to date with non-league speedway stuff and it appears there are many non-league riders looking to ride. Yes, many 'wobblers', many up-righters, which might mean some 'old boys', but they are out there. I think speedway needs to look 'outside the box'! :)

The Provincial league was a pirate league set up in 1960 by a string of promoters with Mike Parker and Reg Fearman plus others. The then British League was struggling, but it was the league that was recognised by national and international organisations. The situation came to an impasse in about 1964/5 when Lord Shawcross was appointed by the RAC to furnish a settlement which resulted in one British League, with all teams to be built to the strength of the winners of the Provincial League in 1964 which was an Ivan Mauger led Newcastle team.

It is remarkable that only in British Speedway can we hear on the one hand a shortage of riders (even with almost everyone doubling up), and yet speculative discussions of new tracks opening......

In the case of Norwich, any former Norwich speedway supporters will have long lost interest and moved on. . I doubt there are enough speedway folk left in Norfolk and Suffolk combined to support another track without impacting on the existing tracks at KL Ippo and Mildy. (not to mention PBoro.)

Well there wasn't a problem in the early 60's and the formation of the Provincial League, when there were loads of 50's riders swinging their leg over a bike to ride again.

Elkins I thought wasnt too bad a rider , just had more engine failures than every other combined but when he completed four laps he didnt seem too bad. I remember him coming out in heat 15 one year at Newport and ruining either Wato or Anders maximum and done pretty well that night in the return leg back at Reading.

That will be the rider known as Justin Elkins ef

Think you got that wrong , Anders wiped Stoney out at Sheffield and Stoney chased him with a shovel.

i remember the 1999 season anders and frank smart ended up 3&4 for newport and Anders out gated Stoney. Stoney was all over him like a rash but the minute hed of made a move, Smartey would of been through. Superb action.

Always loved Anders as a Wasp fan but Stoney was awesome entertainment.

i will add , in my long time as a Wasp fan, Stoney was prob the opponent i always looked forward to riding at newport as far as opponents go. Superb style , awesome rider, panto villain and a top bloke. Awesome stuff

I remember Anders as a great gater. He once had a 15 point max at our place, and none of our riders could touch him.

If he is half as good as his Dad was he will be doing well , superb ambassador for the PL in its day.

After one of Newports home meetings against us Diamonds, my wife and I stayed over a very local hotel. Whilst having a meal I got up to go to the toilet and Anders, who was with a girlfriend, summoned me for drinks. I still had my white shirt and BSLA tie on and he had mistaken me for a waiter.  We had a laugh about it at he time and in later meetings. A real nice guy. Seem to remember he chased Stoney ? all over the centre green at Sheffield with a shovel after a track incident. Stoney probably didn't think he was a nice guy then.:D

“Our final rider will, I can say now, be a rider with an average that will keep us close to the new points limit, and this also means we have a solid team with strength-in-depth the key that we believe will gain us success on track. They will be a team of entertainers, a team who all want to race for us and get us, and our fans triumphs to cheer from day one to the end of October. 2022 is going to be a year to remember at Brough Park!”

You didn't dream it.  Plus it was part of the same press release which announced Wilson Dean and Congreve so no arm twisting has occurred post the assertion of being close to the points limit.

A couple of things could have happened post the press release. 1. Congreve as a 4.00 instead of a 2.00 or 2. the points limit is different to what was expected.

At the time I thought the statement inferred that the 7th rider was signed.  But with hindsight it sounds aspirational more than anything.

    Agreed.

  10. What happened to the last rider that Rob talked about who would bring the team strength close to the points limit and be challenging for honours, or did I dream that.

Could have said it before he had his arm twisted to take George and is now paying the price of only getting upto a 6.50 rider, and less clout in heats 13 and 15 again.

Not intended to be harsh but with a closing average of 3.00 and actual average around 7 and starting at reserve he should be cleaning up in the early stages.

There are obviously final averages out there as all teams have been able to build around them but us normals are not treated to such delicate information, yet another treat of resepect from the Mafia board to the fans

He will. Look at his performances for Armadale at the NSS last year and he appeared and starred in the top 4 heats. He rode with a dash and was starting to work out the right lines, something we talked to him about at the weekend. Plus he has top equipment for next year, and he is now with a top tuner who has great faith in him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we can't be playing team building games without @Dandelion - I hope she hasn't left us, iirc a few people played a little rough last season and she may have taken the hump...

Just hope she is still an active Diamonds Supporter.

If you’d paid all that money to get his visa sorted for a coupe of seasons for him then to turn around a go elsewhere 6 months in yous be pretty miffed as well.

This transfer raises a lot of questions regarding who is the visa holder. With the visa, the applicant is stated and he or their company must promise lodgings and financial guarantee's to the said rider.  If Benjamin is being transferred to Glasgow, have they applied for a new visa to replace the Poole visa,  as I can't see Poole carrying on with the visa commitments, when he is not riding for them and is therefore not their responsibility.

Exeter won in 2000, I think it was quite a few years after the bonus points were dropped.

I know Swindon were unhappy as they had won more matches than Exeter but finished 2nd!

Correct . Another trigger to bring the points system in was after we won the PL in 2001, in 2002 we ended up with the same match points as Sheffield, but lost out to them on actual race points despite us having more wins than them. It was later changed to the new points system, as was fairer to every one and took away the advantage that both Sheffield and Exeter had from their massive home advantages.

Seem to remember Exeter doing it a long time ago, unbeatable on their fearsome home track, not very good away. Was the day's of the bonus point which they always got due to the big home wins, not sure how it would have worked out with the current points system, but probably would have as well.

Yes, Exeter won the Premier League in about 2003 and as a result the rules were changed with no bonus point on aggregate.
