  1. Howarth, Lambert, Hughes & Kurtz is my top 4, I've just not decided what order yet :P With the likes of S. Worrall, Garrity & Allott up there too. This looks the best line-up of NLRC/CLRC that I can remember, I think you could put together a decent argument for any of them winning.

Anyway can anyone going to this meeting that is able to text to the updates site, please PM me here or there. Many thanks :)

  2. Very good post Tigerowl :). I thought it was harsh on Jordan to use him on heat 10, seeing as the pairing of Warwick/Smith was probably the least likely pair he was going to have a chance against. And I would have thought it would have been fair to promote him in the second meeting seeing as BV ended up having to anyway.

Btw you can add Brandon Freemantle to your list of debutants.

  3. Thankyou for the weather check. The rain has virtually stopped here so I hope it stays away from the track. I'll be leaving at half 4 ish, so if someone could post nearer then that would be great :)

Regarding the Saints' no. 8, it can't be Adam Kirby as he's riding in the British Under-16 Championship at Smallbrook tonight. However could they have given Oliver Greenwood a chance, or would that be too risky with the Colts in town?

  4. Which makes the comments from "Rusty" from "trackside" sound even more bitter and harsh in the extreme! :nono:

    From the updates site

"Jammy *expletive*, Russ says it's not often he gets angry with National League speedway, but Heeps knew he was beaten on the start, leant on Nick and then fell off. Ref fell for it and it's all 4 back. Nice bloke Mick Posselwhite, Russ says he's known him for ages, but that was wrong.

He now adds that Heeps is still down. The paramedic and the ambulance are on the track, but he stands by his original assessment, hat he went down too easy and conned the ref."

Big shame, get well soon lad.

Very very selective quote! If you read all of the heat 15 comments he agreed with me when I said I hope he's not badly hurt. But anyway, I'm sorry for the lad getting hurt, but it doesn't excuse if he leant on Nick to get the re-run. I wasn't there so can't really comment, but seeing as you read the updates then neither were you Zodiak. It was just the risk that he took, and unfortunately it took it's toll on him :(

  5. I think the NL rules over rider eligibility do a pretty good job in attempting to strike a balance that is required by all the different categories of rider who compete in it. That said, any method that is implemented is never going to be ideal for absolutely everyone.

I think the flaws in any sort of time restriction in terms of the number of seasons a rider be permitted to compete in the third tier are immediately obvious, given the number of riders it would force out of the sport.

The third tier does have a fair record of producing riders that go on to compete at the higher levels of the sport. I think I'm right in saying that every member of this season's GB World Cup squad had ridden in the third tier.

When you get these Aussies that come over and start off at reserve in the NL, they stand out because they appear to be a lot more promising than some of the British youngsters (no disrespect intended). They have a more fearless attitude to racing, you dont hear them saying, 'I dont like this track' or 'I don't like riding in these conditions.'

They dont have a league structure over there, but they do have lots of tracks that help to develop the talent of young riders.

We have very few clubs who run structured training schools and second half events to develop that talent. Rye House are an example of a club that have such a structure. As a result, they have gone out and recruited local youngsters and developed their Speedway abilities and produced a large number of riders who have done well in the third tier and gone on to higher levels of the sport. As a result, their PL sides are made up mostly of riders who have come through the third tier, and they use very few foreign imports, compared to other PL clubs.

Quality post :t: . I agree with every word of it.

  6. The teams for this according to Mildenhall's press release are(see here).

    Isle of Wight:

    1 Nick Simmons ( C ) 8.90

    2 Gary Cottham 4.24

    3 Danny Warwick 7.41

    4 Rob Smith 6.0

    5 Paul Starke 6.18

6 Charlie Saunders or Rikki Mullins both 3.00 Nick Laurence (g) 3.00

    7 Luke Chessell 3.00

    Mildenhall Fen Tigers:

    1 Jack Hargreaves 6.94

    2 Mark Baseby 6.93

    3 Daniel Halsey 5.18

    4 Joe Jacobs 6.10

    5 Lewis Blackbird 6.66

    6 Aaron Baseby 4.66

    7 Cameron Heeps 3.00

However, how can Cameron Heeps still be classed as a 3pt rider when he's completed his 3 home & 3 away meetings?! He's ridden his three at home against Buxton, Hackney & Stoke, whilst his three away have been Buxton, Dudley & Newport (of which all have been league meetings)! According to my figures this should give him a new average, which surely should be effective immediately, of 8.73 meaning he should go to number 1 tomorrow.

  7. Newport Hornets take on the Isle of Wight Islanders this Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm. The last time these two met at Queensway Meadows stadium, was in the first round of this years knock-out cup where the Hornets managed a 53-40 victory, however the Islanders took the tie on aggregate.

Though both Rob Smith & Nick Simmons have since appeared there in the NL Pairs event. It will also be a home debut for Hornet's recent signings Steven Jones & Brendan Johnson (who incidentally started the year at Smallbrook).

    ----

On another note: if anyone is going to this meeting and is able to text to the updates site, can they please either leave a message here, pm me here or pm me on the updates site.

    Thanks

  8. I think that is quite sad really. These things need to be nurtured. I believe that the Hawks have had 3 meetings at LS according to the fixtures surely that can't be enough to gauge the success of a project.

This is one of the problems with NL racing if there is one thing I have learnerd about speedway supporters is that they are creatures of habit a habit needs to be developed habits also need to be broken and this constant 'will we wont we' attitude of the teams is not helping build support. Why would somebody lend their support to a team that may or may not be there next year why would you develop a habit that you are going to have to break in 6 months time and speedway supporters have their hearts broken more than most with the yo yo leagues. abd because of this there is also a culture developing of almost blackmail(not meaning to cause offense to anybody) 'If you don't support the club then we will close it down' not sure that is the best business strategy either.

NL clubs need to commit to the cause. I don't say this as an 'armchair promoter' promoters have an intensely difficult job but the first thing surely is committment to the people that support your club. Whoever have supported till now may drift now as the project would appear to be going nowhere.

There is such a thing as speculate to accumulate. I know it is quite easy ti sit and type the words when you are not loosing shed loads of money but isnt that the first rule of business?.

I totally agree 100% with what you've just said, as I seem to most of your posts. At least there are some rational people on this site.

I think the main issue with Hackney has been that the riders are basically Rye House riders. If I used to be a Hackney fan, and now see my team name again and want to go to support it, I would have to ask: am I supporting Hackney or a Rye House select?

  9. Hmmm... Interesting signings.

Danny will increase our scoring power at home, but I'm not as sure away. I was surprised he didn't find a club this year & I'm glad that he hasn't walked away from the sport.

As to Charlie Saunders who is he ;) I've found that he rode for Swindon Sprockets in 2007 & has been included in, but withdrew from, individuals at Reading & Weymouth since. Though he has been described as a prominent grasstrack rider & has seemingly decided speedway will be his number 1 sport now. He will be 21 next month. Anyone else have any info on him? Good luck Charlie :)

Additionally the management must see potential in Charlie because the averages allow us to partner Luke with Tom Hill, who I hope finds a team soon as he had occasionally threatened to ride as a top 5 man. And I must mention Brendan who has been unlucky imo, but the averages meant not just 1 could go. Brendan ommer 'um ;) just not on Tuesday :D
