They seem to have taken the Southgate approach. Pick on name, team and reputation not form

It does feel like Boughen should be in and around the squad as he is widely lauded as the next big thing but Jenkins was a very odd choice for me.

The Thompson family don't come across as not willing to travel to help aid their lads development (don't know anything about them to comment further).

So why comment at all if you do not know anything, can of worms?

Not sure what that tells us

Apparently Fred West was a very likeable person. Charles Manson obviously had a magnetic personality that enabled him to attract and manipulate people. The criminal world is full of such people. And the world is full of charming people who manage to manipulate and rob the elderly.....

And there is one problem with speedway. It has a large elderly fan base. Would it really be acceptable to have him in the spotlght and expect older generations to pay out money to watch him ? How would it come over if you expected a large amount of females to pay to watch entertainment from a wife beater or rapist at the extreme ?

The sport which has the most offers and offers them continuing employment is football.

Yet every week people pay to watch rapists, drug cheats, wife beaters who steal a living through the sport.

Some of our lads do appear to have a bigger expectation of them than maybe their capability level would currently warrant...

Messrs Screen, Loram, Woffinden, Lambert and Bewley were, whilst well under 21, beating world level heat leaders regularly...

Wouldn't be a bad thing to lower expectation, and therefore pressure, on these lads..

If they reach HL level in Div 2 and No6/SS level in Div 1, it will be an achievement...

None of the current crop could hold a candle to the names you have mentioned.Like I said we do not have a great deal of international level youngsters at present.

    I agree with both posts.

The main problem seems to be that the current crop actually think they are better than what they are and have achieved nothing at present.

I hope not but if he is then at least I can give him the deserved pelters from trackside. Wrong’un

Pelters is an informal Scottish term that refers to criticism or verbal abuse. It is a plural noun.

Pelter, on the other hand is a noun that refers to a person who pelts. A shower of missiles, rain, anger, etc.

It can also refer to a pinchpenny, a mean , sordid person, a miser, or skinflint.

So which pelters you handing out? Or are you a pelter, a mean sordid person

  5. What an utter shambles and disgrace TEAM GB are!

Brennan leaving before the last ride is disgraceful.

To represent your country is the ultimate aim of any sports person and to let the country down is disgraceful to say the least.

Inept management in every respect of team selection and the reasons behind selection.

Pitiful display by who some regard as our future super star rising stars

  6. I think everyone on here should cast their minds back several years ago to a certain incident involving 3 young riders and what they allegedly did to a young lady.

Who bailed them, who paid monies to certain parties to keep the alleged incident quiet and where are they now?

  7. One of the main problems in speedway is that every supposed speedway star or former one thinks they know everything and everyone and covers each others backs to make a living.

Sclime and worral are 2 of the biggest culprits, scankin the British Youth system and teaching kids how to blow up engines and ride crap.

Ex riders who cannot make a living after speedway conning promoters into thinking they know better.

Until Speedway wakes up and realises these people are holding the sport back and conning a living for jackth?id=OIP.Aa4RsfbJZIRzRhU37XVVTAHaHa&w=2

I'm sorry, I just don't get why we're punishing the team and the paying fans for something a rider has done and only on that 1 single night. A club can't be responsible for what a rider does, much in the same way that they're not responsible if a rider gets injured riding for a different club and sometimes in a different country. Take Charles Wright getting injured riding for Wroclaw last year, should Redcar have had a facility? Of course they should, I fail to see the difference. What if a rider had drugs in his system from "partying" with a different club? Should Poole not have had a facility for 1 match when Darcy Ward got busted at a GP a few years back?

I agree with your last point, can't see it myself though

By law, employers can be held vicariously liable for certain acts of their employees. This means even where the employer has itself done no wrong, it can still be found responsible for employees actions and made to financially compensate the victim/victims of the wrong doing.

I'm not sure if it does now, but didn't R/R allow 1 rider above the rider it's replacing to take a ride? For a reserve, It's not rocket science, you just allow the next highest rider to take a ride, if that is a reserve in heat 2 and obviously the other rider is already involved, use the next highest, maybe at the expense of being able to use a TS in the riders ride later in the meeting. It is entirely possible to write rules to cover such an eventuality. There seems to be a rather large hole in the rules as it currently stands.

As for Plan B, why are you continuing to punish the team with all the handicap starts?

Plan B allows 4 riders in each race and the punishment is for the team as one of them, knowingly or unfortunately has caused the problem.

If you do not punish the rider and the team then their is no accountability.

I sincerely hope that all becomes clear and the laboratory tests clear the rider.

Just did a wee bit of maths, to test the entire team every meeting it would cost £78.40, in the super grand scheme of things that isn't a lot.

To lab test a sample costs £120 (off Googley search £60 if done on mass)

So simply charge every rider £5.60 a meeting to ensure a 100% clean sport.

If you get a "non negative" result the rider forks out the £120/£60 to prove their clean or not.

Don't ban the rider on the night but upon return of the lab test. Teams aren't affected, fans get a proper meeting.

I understand the frustration about the testing procedure but what if the rider be allowed to participate in the meeting after providing a non-negative result & then is involved in a track crash with the other rider receiving injuries that mean he must miss a few events. How then would the insurers look at our procedure if we knowingly allow a test failure to race in the event. how would the 13 other riders feel about taking to the track with a possible drug user. i understand that as a paying spectator you expect the perfect event each time but what of the others involved within the sport that work hard to produce the product you come to watch. The rules may not be perfect but if we are call bound by the same rules then it must work.

A superb answer to silly question, it just shows how divided and how silly some people are.

Do not think anyone has answered a question on how to ensure 4 riders in each race after imposing a ban.

Well the offending team should be punished due to one of their riders failing the drug test.

They are employing each rider and are accountable for everyone of them and should randomly do drug testing of the team to ensure compliance.

Rider contracts should include details of random drug testing and a caveat that if they are banned then all testing and appeals are at the riders expense.

    Plan B

If any test from the randomly chosen riders is non negative then the offending team has to comply with the new regulations.

    1. A heat leader can replace any drug test related banned rider once during the course of the meeting, going off 30 metre distance behind the tapes.

    2. A second string rider can replace any drug test related banned rider once during the course of the meeting, going off 20 metre distance behind the tapes.

    3. A reserve rider can replace any drug test related banned rider twice during the course of the meeting, going off 10 metre distance behind the tapes.

Maybe this is not the best answer but at least a start.

    Mark Lemon will be devastated....:D

An "amateur level" speedway meeting didn't quite go to plan and you will never attend again? :D

Is your seat an "end of aisle" one, by the way?

If so, can you let me know the seat number, I have a bad back so need the leg room of the aisle...:D

So you are one of the Lemony snicket lickers and a :icon_smile_clown: to boost.

If it is Amateur Level then we are being robbed, it should be free :icon_smile_clown:

It does not matter where I sat, if you have a bad back a :icon_smile_clown: like you will not mind paying for 2 seats then.

Sorry to hear that. Just out of interest where do you watch your speedway most often as we could take a look and try and emulate them.

It’s was announced many times what was going on during the interviews with the lads. Straight from the horses mouth so to speak.

    Wolverhampton has closed unfortunately

  13. It is far too easy for most posters to iron over the problems and make excuses instead of addressing them.

Or even asking what a problem is when they already know the answer

Surely after the down pour it would have been advisable to scrape the top off and tyre pack the track from the start.

No messing around or problems and as long as the announcer tells everyone what is going on they can understand and appreciate the problem.

It was a poor advert for speedway and anyone new visiting speedway for the first time would be put off.

A dying sport and this is partially the reason why and with fans up their own backsides defending mediocrity how can it survive.

I am done with Belle Vue Speedway after many years as a visiting fan, never again.

By way of explanation to the 7 newbies.

A pre start shower definitely affected the track and rider performance so it was decided to spend 20 minutes making the track safer for the young lads taking part who were getting into difficulty. Rider safety is paramount. The interval was dispensed with and the whole meeting was completed in under two hours.

If less than two hours is “a complete waste of time” then maybe speedway isn’t for you.

With regards the start marshals can you be more specific with regards any perceived issues?

If you do not know what was the problem with the start marshals then maybe speedway is not for you.

Speedway does have rules and if the fools officiating are not aware of them they should not be in the position to officiate.

The start marshal shall raise a red flag when the red lights come on.

Riders disqualified under the 2 minute rule are eligible to be re instated going off 15 metres, not from the tapes.

Pity that the clerk of the course had to come out of the pits to instruct them what to do.

Even last year 3 lap and 5 lap races.

Criticism is constructive if it is listened to and observed.

This was a perfect opportunity for riders to learn, but instead decided by most to be throttle jockeys with the consequences.

Credit to the riders who actually tried in difficult circumstances, but others need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask themselves do I really want to do this!

  15. Had the most unfortunate experience of going to this meeting today and what a total waste of time.

Firstly I would like to know if the start marshalls have any form of training or have to attend any form of seminar. Do they have to understand the rules?

A pre start shower definitely affected the track and rider performances but how can you try to explain to a group of 7 newbies about tractor racing for 20 minutes.

Total farce of a meeting and Belle Vue should be ashamed of how they dealt with such a farce.

Credit to the riders who actually tried in difficult circumstances, but others need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask themselves do I really want to do this!

  16. Birmingham lost due to poor team management.

Zach Cook should have replaced Victor Lampart in heat 12 with nothing to lose after a smart move by Simon Stead.

It could be costly long term by poor team management choices.

Use the reserves for what the are intended to be used for.

  18. Going back in time to surely promoters had more sense, than now.

Why on earth are every team trying to start the season too early.

Postponements rife already and who wants to watch sub standard racing in poor conditions.

Not only do the paying public suffer, the riders costs are escalated with all the cleaning and maintenance of the bikes.

By the way, when do all the other smart countries start their seasons.

  19. Never watched the programme before, but what a set of shambles the blokes were.

The leader of the men's team did nothing but talk Sh8te and funnily enough was followed by certain colleagues as in being behind.

All the clowns on the leaders side deserved firing as totally clueless.

If these are the brains of the future of Britain, we are doomed as is speedway.

Clowns belong in a circus, whoa you might say.

    They are it`s called speedway.

Basic sense says that proving a decent product generates a decent crowd and helps make the league sustainable.  Giving riders team spots because of links to the club rather than ability is flawed.

The IOW dont charge riders to ride, they generate a product where rider levels are closer and have a track which produces good racing. The NDL could easily do the same but teams are still being built with heavy heat leaders and new 3 point rookies so the same mistakes are made over and over again.

I am quiet unsure with conflicting elements here?

I’m not the promoter ( anymore ) or even the team manager so it’s upto the management to do what they see fit. There are a number of riders associated with the club who could be considered for the final team spot, Katie being one of them. Would love to see Rachael Hellowell get a spot at Edinburgh too.

As for crowds, it’s a development league and should not be expected to attract big crowds or even make a profit, although that would be nice. It’s one step up from the NJL and the amateur scene so don’t expect it to be a big earner for any club.

The I.O.W. actually charge riders to ride in such meetings and people on this site rave about the clubs activities so isn’t that an eye opener.

Do they charge riders to ride and charge the paying public or not?

Everyone needs to know this as it is very relevant to many unanswered questions?
