56 with COPD. No hospital visits for years. I've had 2 letters and a phone call. Guess they think i'm nearly fu***ed lol  ;)

So you’ve been told to SHIELD and you’re not allowed to leave your property?

    Not true at all.

55 years old with diabetes that seems impossible to get under control was sufficient to get me the shielding letter at the end of March.

From the many conversations I have had with others; none would back up the criteria you believe is operating for shielding advice.

Could you screenshot your letter and post it on here?  Obviously, don’t show your name and address.

I would like to see one of those as you don’t seem to qualify as “vulnerable” (although I’ve noticed the NHS has now changed this to “extremely vulnerable) and my mother in law has been very concerned that she hasn’t been told to shield (although she is) and she doesn’t qualify for deliveries.

That is totally untrue , but it does seem very hit and miss. See my post re wife.

Which part of what I said is “totally untrue”?

Here’s the vulnerable list, according to the NHS it’s people who:

    have had an organ transplant

are having chemotherapy or antibody treatment for cancer, including immunotherapy

are having an intense course of radiotherapy (radical radiotherapy) for lung cancer

are having targeted cancer treatments that can affect the immune system (such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors)

have blood or bone marrow cancer (such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma)

have had a bone marrow or stem cell transplant in the past 6 months, or are still taking immunosuppressant medicine

have been told by a doctor they you have a severe lung condition (such as cystic fibrosis, severe asthma or severe COPD)

have a condition that means they have a very high risk of getting infections (such as SCID or sickle cell)

are taking medicine that makes them much more likely to get infections (such as high doses of steroids)

have a serious heart condition and are pregnant

That's interesting as my brother in law 80 who has had by pass surgery and is on warfarin,  he spent about 3 months late last year in and out of hospital with diverticulitis and inflammation of gall bladder,  has been type 2 diabetes for several years and my sister in law aged 78 asmatic diabetic and last December was in hospital with pneumonia both assure us that they have had no letter.

    Yes, I can believe that.

The vulnerable list seems to be confined to the terminally ill and those who have had life saving treatments like chemotherapy or open heart surgery in the last six months.

But they should check with their doctor.

Oh ok. I just know my parents, who are younger than gustix have been stuck at home for weeks

My girlfriend’s parents are 77 and 79 but haven’t received a letter. One has a heart condition and contacted the doctor to check but was told that only certain conditions make one “vulnerable” regardless of age.

Thought all over- 70s, which you certainly are received a letter from the government explaining ?

    https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/coronavirus/coronavirus-guidance/social-distancing-and-self-isolation/

Wasn’t it only the 1.5 million vulnerable people who received letters, not everyone over 70?

The over 70s who are not vulnerable (and diabetics who are not “vulnerable”) are merely classed as “high risk” but are told they can do exactly the same as a fit, healthy 35 year old.

He said he had 'invested 55k' into his equipment (inc van) and needed now to earn money as "that money has now gone and I now need to get some money back in"..

A couple of weeks ago Charles Wright said in the Star, depending on your level, you will spend between 10k to 30k...

You might say you’ve “invested” £30k in a van when in reality you’ve paid a £1,000 deposit and £200 a month.

Has she sorted out the Skye care home?

Out of interest, in UK are they taking a nasal swab (have to say it was a pretty weird sensation having the swab up my nostril)

Our government’s tests are based two-thirds on taking swabs and one third on taking the p*ss.  :D

It surprised me that nobody asked why the testing capacity yesterday was 108,000 yet on the 30th of April the government claimed over 120,000 tested?!?

I assumed that they have lab capacity to do 108,000 tests but could post out many more, which would just create a bottleneck in the labs if they all came back together,

Exactly - if he'd said something like "well we've given it a right old go, came up a bit short, but no worries we'll have it cracked in a couple of days" it wouldn't have caused any problem I'm sure ......but sadly they're just programmed to talk official-ese.

And aren’t man enough to have a grown up discussion about getting the tests done and done properly.

Hitting 100,000 tests in an incomplete, half-assed, dodgy way, just so they could say “told you so” is pathetic.

They were all taking rich pickings on the continent on Sundays as well as fullfilling British League engagements but it's all pretty academic really.

Penhall didn’t ride many UK seasons, did he?

As regards the others, let’s face it, the British League was the biggest and best in the world in the 70s so why wouldn’t they ride here!

    Hi Dc2

Eric Boocock would have ridden with Halifax race jacket between 1970- 74 and would not have used the 1975-78 version or the 1979 version.

Chris Pusey would have ridden using the versions before 1979.

    Hope this helps

Thanks. Just looked it up. Eric Broadbelt rode too in 1978.

All the race jackets had elephants though and not the castle that I remember?

"Greg" Hancock advises that there was 105,937 corona virus tests carried out on Friday.Twice in two days he's smashed the 100,000 figure. :o  What a man. But if you discount Thursdays figure, cos you don't want to believe it, he has beaten the target of 100,000 a day late. Shocking, there'll be people asking for his resignation now. :approve:

Nope. I bet very few of the 122,000 or 105,000 postal tests have been returned yet.

And they can’t say they’ve met it until they’ve tested 100,000 people in a day. At least another week away from that.

Shame they had to resort to lying. I voted for this lot.  :(

I agree. It’s what flu does, it comes back in the winter.

That’s why we need to ramp up the preparations for quarantining old people in the best possible way.

Ferguson is supposed to be modelling it!

I cannot begin to describe my loathing of these cretins who question and moan and complain about a Government which is trying its ar*e off to get us out of "the plague"

Just imagine the horror of a Government headed by CORBYN/McDONALL/ABBOTT.

These cretins have probably never had to run a company, never had any REAL responsibility, answerable to literally thousands of people.

I bear no love for the Governing party, but my loathing of the gripes, moans and questioning of these self important idiots literally knows no bounds.

So, are you happy for the government to say anything and do anything without being questioned?

If so, you might consider living in China.

Otherwise, we still have a democracy and freedom of speech and a lot of those questioning the government are making very good points, certainly ones that could be more effective in saving lives, and indeed actually helping the government to move forward.

The count was never intended to be when the samples were tested but when the test was carried out. It was explained that with the postal tests advice was taken and that was that they be counted when the test was sent out.

That is reasonable as otherwise, a seperate recording system would be needed to record when the recipient carried out the test and then in many cases adding it to a previously announced total.

In any event the total without the postal tests would probably have been close to or, have exceeded the target if, instead, as some seen to prefer, postal tests sent out previously but carried out by the recipient on the 30th April were included in the total for that day.

Much as it may upset some to acknowledge it, It was a remarkable achievement.

Even if we fall for that explanation (which only a lunatic would), how about Downing Street confirming that it meant 100,000 people tested, not 100,000 tests on fewer people?

Even allowing for the limp “we’ve posted it so we can count it” excuse, only 73,000 people were tested.

We want a government that we can respect, one that uses genuine data to support honest arguments, proposals and conclusions, not one that twists them to manipulate the public.

Good question...and at the risk of stirring up a hornet's nest I guess the Confederate Flag would raise issues now...back in 1972 as a kid it looked so good and I personally never looked beyond the image. It was part of the Cowboys 'n' Indians culture that my generation grew up with watching westerns and dressing up!

Were Oxford the rebels once?  Trying to remember. Didn’t one team have a confederate emblem?
