  1. Thoroughly enjoyed yesterdays meeting. Especially the first 5-6 heats. It did run out of steam towards the end, but with the bonus point not secured until heat 14 kept it interesting. Lee Complin looks like he is going to be a bit of a fans favourite, always good to see a rider engage with fans on the celebration lap. Is he the new “The Lee”?? Natural Order restored
  2. Really enjoyed today's meeting. Some great riding from Pickering and Erik Riss for the Monarchs. But heat 14 from Claus is why you pay your money. Think the score probably makes the meeting look closer than it actually was. Don't know if we eased up, or Edinburgh just got going towards the end, or perhaps a bit of both, but a victory for Glasgow was never in doubt. Roll on Sheffield in 2 weeks
  3. Do any of the Workie locals know any campsites in or near the Workington area? I can only find Gale Brow campsite but you need to be a member of the camping and caravan association to stay there. Going to try and combine going to away meetings with some camping this season, so any help would be appreciated. Its 50-50 regarding this weekend (will check weather) but definitely for the league meeting.
  4. Really enjoyed this meeting. Heat 14 is what you pay your money to see. This really looks like a promising season for us at Glasgow. If not silverware then definitely on the entertainment level.

    Glasgow 2018

Season Ticket purchased. Even splashed out on seating... Can't wait to see bomber fly around the newly shaped Ashfield.
  6. Was like watching the Glasgow of the early 00's tonight. But at least back then I was young free and single and we weren't subjected to military style stewards! 😐😐
  7. That's why I used the Kilmarnock comparison. Teams like them, Thistle, Ross County, are basically there to make up the numbers, maybe the odd good cup run. To me Glasgow and some others are in that boat. We need to accept that and stop trying to pressure the promotion into making team improvements, Which logically will probably cost us more money, with false promises of fans will return in numbers if we have a successful side. As a side note, I've actually been saying for a few years that I wouldn't mind Glasgow going NL. Getting 7 young British riders, and allowing the fans to watch their development. Even if the crowd level slumps to 200-250 that should be enough for NL speedway. If PL speedway isn't viable on our crowd numbers I would rather the promotion bite the bullet and drop down.
  8. Oh I've missed the speedway banter :-\
  9. I'm a tad confused!!! In one paragraph I read criticism towards the promotion for taking "The cheap option" then in the next paragraph it's been put forward that the promotion should crunch some numbers to see if speedway is viable in the city of Glasgow. Now I'm no expert but perhaps the Glasgow promotion have "crunched numbers" and have worked out a budget that they will not stray away from, and going by crowds at Glasgow in recent years including the league winning year, I imagine that budget isn't the biggest in the league. One thing that has often baffled me on forums, FB etc is when fans say "at the end of the day I'm a speedway fan first, if I see good racing then I will go home happy" but as soon as the team start losing, nobody really cares about the standard of racing, which by all accounts has been vastly improved this season. So I genuinely believe Glasgow fans need to decide if they want speedway anymore, and are willing to accept exactly where Glasgow are in terms of finances. Which to me is putting together a team that will win more at home than they will lose, and will be scraping the bottom of the league most years, with the odd season when things click. As long as they put a good race track on for the riders I honestly believe that's all we can ask. To put it another way, Glasgow are like the Kilmarnock FC of the speedway world. No money, a band of loyal fans who go for the love of the club in the hope of seeing an upset, but knowing that at the end of the day we can't compete with the big boys, but go anyway because it's our club.... And before anyone else brings it up, yes I've not been myself this year, but not because of the team or promotion, or results
  10. I've seen it a few times, once to Glasgow, when both opposition riders were excluded leaving the two Glasgow riders to race each other. The rider in 2nd just hung back and tootled around. By lap 2 his exclusion light was in, as he was deemed not to have been racing. Just saying like.
  11. Think it's time Glasgow ditched Survivors "Eye of the Tiger" and replaced it with Katy Perrys "Roar"

    Glasgow 2014

I remember that being suggested a few years ago, when Ashfield got promoted, so pitch specifications were more rigid. I believe plans got to a pretty advance stage until the football authorities stepped in and quashed any hope of it. Shame because with a slightly wider entrance, and the banking we have now the track would be splendid. Having said that, you can have the best purpose built track, with the perfect shape in the land. If it not prepared well it doesn't matter a jot. Is there any reason why the old greyhound scoreboard can't be knocked down? We're always told that's the reason the third bend breaks up because it doesn't get sunlight and remains softer than the rest of the track. Seems daft to keep it when there is never going to be greyhounds at Ashfield again.

Jeepers Jimminy Crickets!!!! 21 years, where does the time go. Still say Crabbies testimonial meeting at Shawfield that year was one of the best meetings I have ever seen. Lyons and Schott both in their prime and untouchable,

Fantastic signing Fantastic Team. GazC get the BMW washed and fueled up, as there will be many a road trip this year following the Tigers to glory. what makes this a fantastic signing in my opinion is that if/when Anders or even Joey get new averages I fully expect them, Anders particularly, to be challenging to get into the top 5. Now one of two things can happen.... ...Mark Lemonony Lemon can do a Shane Parker, get a 2nd lease of life and be a revaluation. Keeping his place in the top 5, keeping Anders or Joey at reserve. or Marks average decreases slightly dropping him to reserve alongside yon wee French bloke. but what is guaranteed for the first time since 2011 is that we will always have a strong reserve, which we all know any time destined for success strives for. Roll on March

    Glasgow 2014

Nobody "wants" to build a team under the points limit. It's just finances and other external situations may force it. Anyway I kinda agree with the poster who said "it can't be Bager, cause he would have bitten our hand off for a contract"

I think the promotion are hoping, as we all are, that Anders takes on that mantle. I agree with you, that if someone is out there who could be our starting 3rd heatleader then that would be the preferred option, I just fear there is slim pickings now that most teams are filling up. Plus how much is left in the coffers after Wolbert and yon wee French dude. I think, if everything goes to plan (and if the final two riders are Henning and Joey) the promotion would be hoping that after the first set of green sheets the team would look like this... Wolbert Bager Thomsen Harrison Pijper Ringwood Berge But hey! When does a speedway season ever go to plan But one things for sure, it's exciting times ahead whoever the final two riders are :-D

I disagree! If we were to sign Henning, and he rode like he did last season, in my opinion, it would be a decent signing. Not world breaking but decent non the less. Last season Henning was brought in and I believe many thought he would challenge for a heat leader position, which didn't really come to fruition. Unfortunatley last seasons heat leaders all decreased their averages putting more pressure and expectation from the fans onto Henning to score the points the heatleaders were not . This season HOPEFULLY our top guys will maintain or in fact up their averages, which would leave Henning to get on with his business as being a solid middle order man, like he did last year. I don't think Henning will ever be a PL heatleader again, but every team needs a solid team man in the middle order picking up those third places, ala Sean Courtney, and I genuinely believe Henning would do that for us this season.

Just makes you realise that all that piffle about "Despite being an Edinburgh fan, I really do want to see Glasgow come back and have a strong Team" or "Scotland needs a strong Glasgow and Edinburgh, yadda yadda yadda" is just a lot of patronising poppycock!!! POPPYCOOOOOOCK
