I'm an SCB machine examiner at a Championship club and haven't been told this and there is nothing on the SCB web site. You really couldn't make this up.

Lincolnshire Poacher 28/8/16
hydrobob replied to tellboy's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
That date and location is the Fenland GTC meeting. The Poacher is this coming Sunday at Thorpe St. Peter near Skegness -
I'd stopped reading this forum except for the ice racing news but read this thread because I have a disabled wife and I am her carer. Two points I like to make are I can't afford to go to speedway often on a carer's allowance after paying NI for 43 years and I wouldn't expect to get in free when I do go. Second point is the posts by SCB and The Pedaler are the reason why I won't be bothering to check the ice racing on BSF in future. I'd estimate that there are about 10 decent folks that post on here and the rest of you are <Removed by mod. Just as well you are deciding not to post as it saves us banning you for that outpouring of personal abuse>. Thankfully when my youngest has finished college we're selling up and moving out of this nasty, corrupt and ignorant island.

Posts like this from brain dead pond life like you is why I have finished with this forum. I do a fair bit of work in various racing disciplines and use forums for info. I've yet to come across a race related forum that is as dire as this one. Do most of you actually like speedway?.

I've tried to join the Old Times Speedway group a few months ago but never received a confirmation. I've tried again but it seems to think I'm already a member. Would really like to join as I've about had it with this forum and the Peter Collins thread is the last straw. Maybe one of the reasons for declining crowds is to avoid some of the posters on here!

Weren't We Expecting A New Ruling Regarding Race Suit Material This Season?
hydrobob replied to skthecat's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I'm a bit baffled by the mention of nylon. I was involved in grass track and drag racing until the mid '90s and nylon was specifically forbidden as both lining and stitching in leathers because it melts and behaves like napalm! Just curious when the regs changed. -
Air Fence Safety Performance - Research?
hydrobob replied to Elephantman's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned. "risk compensation". Stirling Moss has some interesting things to say about this in his views on modern F1 grand prix racing. In a nutshell; reduce the consequences of a mistake and a complacency sets in that results in more risk taking with the result that you have ended up back at square one. I have had motorcycle get offs before and after the helmet law, only difference was with a helmet I was going a hell of a lot faster. -
Sgp/bsi And Sec/one Sport It Is War Now
hydrobob replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Common sense, speedway, same sentence....I don't think so. -
There's been an issue with the Stoke track among F1 stockcar drivers all season because of the bumps, holes and the turn 3 "trench". Can't say I'd fancy it on a bike.

I'm curious about this rider asset thing. When the company I managed used self employed personnel I had a meeting with the then Inland Revenue to clarify exactly what "self employed" meant. In short, the answer was as soon as we, the employer, made any demands such as working hours, uniforms etc and tried to enforce these with sanctions those workers would be have to be treated as employed. Maybe the rules have changed in the last few years but I would have thought a self employed rider whose track has closed could go where he likes and any attempt to control this by the BSPA would be restraint of trade. Genuinely would like to know the answer to this.

What I'd like to know is as Neil Machin is determined not to continue as a promoter how can he decide whether or not speedway continues at Sheffield. What's to stop someone renting the track and starting again? Can't see how the BSPA could object to this providing it was "a fit and proper person"(!?!?!) and any objections from NM would surely be irrelevant as he's no longer promoting. As for riders, aren't they self employed? I used to manage a company in an industry where self-employment was the norm and there was no chance of telling anybody where they could or couldn't work. I think all that could apply to Peterborough as well. Been away from speedway for a long time and I can't believe the shambles it's become.
