    Charlie Monk

Taciturn was the word I would use to describe Charlie, an astonishing racer in that if he gated well, he won. Saw him smile a lot when it the company of good looking women, but he wasn't keen on autograph hunters and people who wanted a piece of him, or too much of his time. I always felt that if you wanted to learn how to be good at speedway, you had to study Charlie's style, habits, preparation, attention to detail etc etc. Safe to say I was a big fan, and one of those autograph hunters he would often avoid.

Jim Airey How Good Was He?

Jim Airey, I saw him when he rode for Wolves against Glasgow maybe 1967, very good rider, tall if I remember correct and he was someone who had raced on tarmac. I see to remember a photo of him in the Speedway Star on a 250 or 500 cc road racer. Wolves were the first team I saw that had their riders customise their leathers .... a simple stripe of orange leather down the legs and arms of their leathers ... jet set stuff!!

    Dag Lovaas

Remember Dag Lovaas? Rode with Reidar Eide in the World best pairs, rode for Newcastle, Oxford and quite a few more. Did Dag suffer a bad back injury, possibly broken? I might be getting my riders mixed up, help appreciated
