Good to see you again Sid!

Apparently a thatched restuarant in Harome not far from where I live was set alight when the landlord evicted a customer from the pub who insisted on smoking and he threw his cigarette butt onto the thatch...anarchy rules!

That's a shame. Says something really. -
Good one...that's a Dutchman "ticked off".

It's all looking good for the "Cheetahs"...I wish them luck in the play-offs. -
Good call!

I was thinking Robbie Blackadder...of course some riders used to "double-up" with their sister club.

It's not an issue as far as I'm concerned...it's always interesting how any particular thread develops as that's how public forums work.

I remember when rear spoilers were first introduced (may have been Malcolm Simmons?) and they soon became popular (especially those displaying the union jack). I recall Geoff Bouchard using one made out of card and foil that during a race became dislodged. Apparently it was suggested that they helped create "drive" from the rear wheel but Simmo discounted this saying they were another way that riders could display their sponsors. Remember Hans using a front wheel spoiler on one occasion and Tommy Knudsen coming a cropper during a GP when dirt from a rider he was chasing caused the front wheel to wobble alarmingly.

I did think Trevor O'Brien but didn't think he met my "five year" criteria!

Saw him ride for Birmingham if I remember before moving to the "Dons." -

Thanks for that. I never actually got to see Rick Woods ride during his very short spell at Newport in 1973 but I did see his brother (?) Gene. -

I was thinking of the Bast Brothers in particular but you may well be right. -

I guess if one looks outside the UK the Americans in the late sixties may well have worn leathers with sponsors? -
I need to work this one out!

...you know me too well from my University Challenge efforts!

Don't know why I came up with the figure five? Just seemed a good starting point!

I'd forgotten Gert Handberg. Tended to get overlooked by his more illustrious compatriots.

A good solid dependable sort of rider.

What's even more interesting is that someone "makes the effort" to read a thread entitled "Peterborough Speedway - Petition" and makes no reference regarding signing or otherwise of same? -

I think that the media generally has never really treated speedway seriously (most noticeably the domestic version) Even back during the last "Golden Era" during the seventies when England ruled the sport got scant attention other than the sadly missed "World of Sport". I used to collect any speedway related newspaper cuttings at the time and it never really amounted to much although the "Oxford Mail" did cover the sport locally admirally. -
Totally unaccceptable in my opinion. The fact that you have to book online only adds to the nonsense.
