All his stars were aligned that night! If I remember he beat Hans three (?) times including the Golden Helmet.

...when the centre green (for want of a better term) was dire Sid. It was like a rubbish tip due to a Sunday Market and for a season when Banger Racing took place at Cowley...bits of car bodies all over the place!
-
I've just seen your post!
-
Hans when he signed for "The Cheetahs" in 1984 had the bends re-shaped to allow more passing opportunities going in and coming out of the bends...although he fence would come up very quickly on the exits as the track narrowed!
-
Remind me what the 'big hitting heat 13" was as I've totally forgotten? I'm assuming that number one's were pitted against each other?
-
All the more remarkable that Hans achieved an average of 11.03 in 1988 and 10.91 in 1989 when both those criterias were in operation. Just demonstates the force he was during the eighties.

I do like these photos of the past...great action studies of a bygone age!

To be honest I lost the plot...

I'm guessing that if anywhere the place to look would be in a back copy of the "Vintage (later "Classic") Speedway Magazine" that was a publication by John Chaplin and Jim Lipscombe (?). I'll have a perusal thru' when I have a moment. -

Perhaps we could have programme covers? -
Oxford did put in a tentative bid for Ted Hubbard in 1972 but it came to nought!
-
I remember an interview with fellow Bradford reserve Gordon Whitaker who was less than complimentary about Michael Graves who he felt was somewhat full of himself and was looked upon by the Bradford Manangement at the time as someone special but who never really fullfilled his potential.
-
Neil was decent middle order man but lost his way with a move to Poole then Newport (?) and made one appearance for White City before disapperaing from the scene.
-
Yes that's sounding familiar.

That was brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed watching the count down (bit like when I used to watch "Top of the Pops") and got more excited when the City 'Rebels'" emblem just got pipped by the "Ace"! There were some interesting entries. Great job...just a shame more people didn't engage. We need some distraction from the issues we are presently facing. -

I think he started his career in the UK based at Newport before moving up with Poole? -

Thankfully I had re-located by then...wouldn't have really taken to him.
