Interviews by Lee Ashby - David's Son
steve roberts replied to steve roberts's topic in Years Gone By
I think that these interviews are great and gives a real insight to the sport during largely the seventies and eighties...keep it up Lee! How about an interview with Barney Kennett? He appears to follow the interviews closely! I'm sure he would have some tales to tell? -
Interviews by Lee Ashby - David's Son

Yes remember the interview well Tony...just that he didn't mention the specifics in Lee's interview when the subject was raised appearing to blame Nielsen for the problem. -

Interesting interview however Ole conveniently sidesteps the issue with his involvement with Erik Gundersen which basically came down as a 'conflict of interests' being both Erik's mentor and the Danish Team Manager. Apparently during one Pairs Final (possibly 1984?) he had Erik stay at a different hotel to Hans which was purely nonsense and unacceptable. Even Erik after he finished riding said that it wasn't really the done thing and realised that it was wrong. Otherwise a good interview...still don't like him though! -

Must catch up with the Olsen interview...although I was never a fan of his...but he left a huge mark on the sport. -
I can confirm that in the British League (can't remember quite the National League as they were running matches over a different heat formula...could only happen in speedway) the last season that riders who took part in the main match in second halves was during 1984. Can't remember when junior meetings ceased to be honest...certainly some time during the nineties.
-
I certainly do! If I remember the British League finished with the traditional Second Half in 1984 and were replaced by a Junior Meeting from 1985 onwards. Chris Shears introduced an old fashion style Second Half whilst Promoter at Cowley in 1995 and the fans appreciated the gesture only for the BSPA to put a halt to further attempts! I did put the question of Second Halves to Martin Rogers in an edition of "Backtrack" and he made some interesting observations and was basically in favour of them.

Sorry to hear of your news. I'm intrigued by the sleeping camel however!!

I remember Adi Funk when he rode for King's Lynn and Leicester. I'm sure Toni Pilotto rode in the UK one year?
