The random Speedway heat thread (no spoilers)!
steve roberts replied to Danny Connor's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
At least he was honest! -
...if I remember he also ran the speedway results service that you could access by phone? I know that Dave Lanning wasn't a great fan of his commentary style but then Dave had his critics!
-
If I recall the commentator at the start of SKY's interest in speedway was Eastbourne announcer Tony Millard?

Bit like Roker Park in Sunderland where I used to go on all too rare occasions.
-
Glad that I managed to visit Hyde Road on a number of occasion...never made Kirky Lane.
-
Great footage!

...bit like those who couldn't be bothered voting during the EU Referendum and we're supposed to feel sorry for them.

Was there ever a season whereby bonus points accumalated in any given match were added to the overal team total?
-
When did they stop being part of what was always referred to as the "Green Sheet Averages"? Are end of season averages therefore devoid of bonus points when putting a team in place under wharever points limit is in place on any given year?
-
I recall that one year bonus points weren't included in a rider's average?
-
I thought I remembered some such occasion!

I managed an afternoon out at Fountains Abbey last week...I guess trips out during the next month will be very few and far between now! -
Team Captains...Those That Perhaps Don't Immediately Spring To Mind?
steve roberts posted a topic in Years Gone By
I guess that the Captain of any particular team over the years was generally regarding as the top man. However I can think of the likes of Rick Timmo of Oxford who was skipper of the side in 1973. Mick Bell was another down the road at Reading and there was Bob Poulson at Sheffield. I'm sure that there are many other examples out there? -
Do tell!

He also turned out for the "Cheetahs" but, again, well after his most successful years.

Remember when Michael Lee was offered the captaincy and he laughed at the prospect. -
Just seen the trailer for the recently issued DVD " Great Races of the 70's & 80's"...looks to be a winner with some classic action. A must for all speedway connoisseurs!
-
All very depressing.

I was due to visit the West Highlands of Scotland (Glen Nevis) but cancelled and probably won't bother booking next year either. Both Ripon and Thirsk are on my doorstep. -
Didn't Bill Werbenuik have the same condition if I recall?

I know that Hans Nielsen was a great advocate to tests being carried out in an interview with then SRA Secretary Colin Gear. in "Backtrack" a few years back
