Yes Sidney I always thought that Gordon should have moved to Swindon after the closure of White City but I guess he felt comfortable having Bob Dugard as a promoter?
-
...still struggling!
-
Remember it well Sid!
-
That's a difficult one...one clue?
-
Yes some great names there...I witnessed Gordon during his early days at Eastbourne and rising thru' the ranks at Oxford, White City (special years) and back at Eastbourne.
-
One particular race involving the two was at Hackney when PC was deputising for Dave Morton. Shoulder to shoulder for the entire four laps giving each other enough room to race and ended as a dead heat. Gordon has left me with so many memories. A great rider!

This is awful news....one of my first heroes at Cowley. Can't believe that Gordon is no longer with us. Despite suffering with diabetes he prided himself on his fitness. RIP Gordon...a true legend!
-
Sadly never fullfilled his true potential.

Keep this thread going lads!

Britain's Best Tracks Ranked

Blimey...I remember that! -
....funny if I had written this the trawling "troll" would be on my case!

During his time as Team Manager he once questioned Kenny Carter's commitment/team spirit to the team which annoyed then promoter Eric Boothroyd. Dennis quit during that winter (1983) to concentrate on his garage businees.

Clubs that own their own tracks

Much of Oxford City Centre is ownd by the various colleges which has caused issues with some businesses my favourite Model Shop "Howes" being one which re-located to Kidlington some years ago now. -
As someone who doesn't sleep too well I set myself little tasks. I tried to come up with foreign riders who only represented one team (qualifying years being five) during the British League era and came up with the following (I'm sure there must be others?) New Zealand - Rick Timmo (Oxford) Norway - Odd Fossengen (Poole) Sweden - Per Jonsson (Reading) Denmark - Erik Gundersen (Cradley Heath) USA - Rick Miller (Coventry) Poland - Edward Jancarz (Wimbledon) However I couldn't come up with an Australian?

As a matter of interest is the "crooked house" that was opposite the entrance of Cradley Stadium still there?

Another good one in prospect...the glory days appear to be back at Cowley. -
First Rider To Carry A Sponsor's Name On Their Leathers?
steve roberts replied to steve roberts's topic in Years Gone By
Yes if I recall he had been signed by Cradley (who ran the show at Cowley at the time) and loaned out to the "Cheetahs" and as you say it was short-lived...he did ride in a second half or two at Cowley if I remember? -
First Rider To Carry A Sponsor's Name On Their Leathers?

Remember when Arnie had a short spell riding for the "Cheetahs" towards the very back end of his career. A real character by all accounts. -

I'd be interested to know who sponsored Arnie? -
Another one gone. RIP

Another good win!
