Don’t get me wrong I like Fricke.

But it has he really proved himself yet in the UK . He has been around for an extra year or 2 than Kurtz.

Hasnt really nailed that number 1 or 5 position yet.

Says a lot that Kurtz was signed ahead of him in Poland. Yes Fricke had a transfer fee but Kurtz was rated ahead of him.

Kurtz is now rated higher than Morris and Fricke in Europe.

No he is not Morris like Thorssell is a slow burner and he is on par with Kurtz easily Morris more hardened and Fricke as a motorcyclist.   ( ie Adams  style wise is a cut above defo.I don't think Fricke takes the UK seriously he should do and ability wise he has everything a good racing brain lovely style he is capable of averaging 8.60 in the UK no problems but i do like  all three of the Aussies Morris also can take more responsibility and improve.

Almost right there mate. Brady will continue to improve, he's a slow burner. Josh will be a decent second string, Chris will top the averages, as ive said many times, a fit and focused Chris Holder will top the premiership standings and make a big hole in the GP series.Linus is very keen to be part of the poole set up, he WANTS, to ride for us, I personally think he is a good signing and will attain his average. Kasper could be a bit of class, he has a very good style, and is a confident lad. If Mateus stays clear of injury he could be a trump card, James will improve, the second night of speedway will do him the world of good.. But, like every team, as ive said, you have to stay sound and come to the party, If we do, this is potentially the best team we've had for quite a few years...

That is a big ask mate of Chris for me he will be at least a point down on Doyley Doyle for me will hardly drop a point at home.Kurtz is a real talent he just needs to get more consistency i  still have him behind Fricke and on par with Morris at the moment but he should improve again Shanes i believe could improve to 4.5 at the least.

Everyone in that side Sidney,  is capable of upping their average.  Brady, Josh and  Holder, all seasoned riders capable of winning heats for fun.   Linus, Woryna and Schpankiak?  are all capable of being heat leaders,  averaging 7 plus.  and James Shanes is far better than the 2.95 he was given.    I see then as runaway leaders .

One I things for sure,    with the exception of Holder, ( so he says) they can all ride our track  with no problems .     A few years back I saw Sundstrom  come and score  17 pts making everyone else look silly..

If you look at that scenario then Belle Vue to me have less ifs / buts Bewley, Fricke ( can crack on) Tungate, Cook all can improve and if Drozdz  hits the ground running they will be a real force.Poole for me Webby are a team you would back more for the potential it has rather than being completely certain.Belle Vue are my favourites the Pole is the key he will love his home venue and Bewley and Fricke are both mega talented who can move up a level cant wait.

Think you;re wrong there Sidney,   Poole have this year assembled an exceptional side built on the back of 'out of date'  Averages.    If a team can  acquire 1 ringer on a low average they are doing well,  but to get 3 takes it to another level .    All the teams were built to a max of 42.5 ,   But had  Woryna,  Schpank and Sundstrom  been accredited with  upto date figures, their team strength would have been nearer  46 Pts.

Many are missing the point here where the advantages compound the differences.    After the first set of figures ,  all the Poole riders, along with all the rest will be accredited with a new average,   so any replacements needed will be proportionate to the average of the missing rider.   so they will have better replacements whenever the need arise.

Every year we have this same problem ,  and every year they do nothing to stop it.     Its so annoying the BSPA cant see further than the end of their big noses....

So sorry Sidney, I cant agree with your views.    The league will be a walk in the park  for Poole losing only but a few matches,    the only hope our sport has,  is  if  another team meets them on a bad day..        Some hope.,,.

I dont see that at all Webby, Holder will he ever get back to his best ? will he go to places like Wolves and Leicester and be relied on to score 11 plus like Doyle.Woryna a hell of a talent but can he score heavily away? Sundstrom is he any better than Hans? the Pole again will he get his set right for the away trips? alot of IFS. and but''s for me but i will say though if this side clicks it will be a force a really exciting team to watch but i dont fear them.

Not really many have said we are a cut above the rest. Only Leicester could spoil the party for us imo. Every other team is weak in a certain department.

You are totally  Deluded play/offs a certainty but most Poole fans who have any nouse about them will know this year will be a long tough season.

The are the bookies favourites and with no less than 3 ringers in the team (4 if you include Noddy) - it would be the biggest choke in speedway history if they don't win!

A very attractive team Steve yes but there are at least four riders in that team that have something to prove play/offs certainly i don't know about winning it though.

A designated thread? Really?  Well it started off in the Poole thread which is where I read it and responded.  I think it’s a bit disingenuous of you with regards Gavan so you must be on the mend.  Just my opinion and back to speedway - if Poole don’t win the league at a canter then I will be very surprised.

Are you drunk Steve?  how would you know Poole would win the league in a canter.?

Not a whole lot of value now, a full 8 months before the play off's but could look very good in October.. Depends how you want to see it..

Mate, i have no issue with Gavan putting something on here, and i also wished him well, but its not an enviable position to be in, could open a whole bag of worms but when everybody wished me well there was a designated thread which as you know i greatly appreciated. This part of the forum should be for speedway only. As  for Kasper Woryna i think he's a bit of class, very good style very confident in his own abillity, and i think personally he will do very well, he should attain his average. Again, everybody has to stay sound, and that doesnt just apply to us. I just hope all our riders come to the party and im sure all the new boys will get in plenty of laps on P&P day.

I do think Woryna has a real nice tidy and safe style his Grandad was the same i think if Poole get the track sorted that will suit him down to the ground.I am a big fan of Piotr Pawlicki and once he got dialled in he was a class act and i would consider Kacper to be not quite as a erratic on a bike  as Piotr .Belle Vue and Poole for me both have attractive teams that should be a pleasure to watch my only negative with Poole is i think Linus will do very well to better Hans average from last year looking forward to the season now.

To be fair Tom Gavan shouldnt be putting his personal issues on this forum, nevermind the poole thread. As you read, many, sympathise with  him, its not an enviable position to be in, causes all sorts of backlash. But  as i say, most sympathise with him, yes i know, ive been through a very rough scary time, and still have a way to go, and thanked everybody for there messages of support but theres was a separate thread for that which i appreciated everybodys concern, but speedway should win the day on here. on this part of the forum.

My take on it was  Gavan maybe found it easier to tell people he didnt know and if that released a bit of stress and anxiety that has to be good for him. Does it matter what thread it was on Nah and people did support him which was very nice.Back to Poole 7/2 for the play/offs i thought they would be a shorter price on  Woryna do people think he will average 7 points this year ? i believe he will and will average nearly 9 at home.???

Yes, once again I totally agree Sid. Briggo was my boyhood hero and I really wanted him to win in 72. Briggo was 37 years old by then and his days at the top were numbered. I thought it would be a fitting end to his world class career if he went went out as World Champion, whereas Mauger and Olsen still had several years left at the top.

Briggo was an up and down sort of rider. Whereas Mauger was like a machine and could turn it on all the time Briggo was a bit more temperamental but when he had his head in the right place I don't think there was anyone bar Fundin, that could stop him. He certainly had his head in the right place in the 72 Final and even had some special lightweight leathers made to reduce unnecessary weight. Such a pity about his crash. I think Barry would have finished either first or second otherwise. A truly great great rider.

As for Ronnie Moore I only saw him at the tail end of his career but what a great stylist he was. Many fans say he was the most naturally talented rider ever to sit on a Speedwáy bike. If he had not had that enforced retirement through injury from 63 - 69 it is more than possible he could have picked up a third World crown.

I think Briggs's longevity was his real success      18 world finals.       -     Fundin ( 15).   ( Mauger ) (14) that tells you something. With   4 title wins,     3  runner up spots, and       3.  third place finishes  also he finished fourth place twice a hell of a record. You would say Fundin just outdid him no disgrace in that as Ove was a GREAT maybe the best ? be great to get a head to head record of Ove v Barry   Fundin wins but  as you say Briggs was unlucky not to win title number 5.

I think we speak the same language sid. I agree with all of that.

Maugers win in '72 is one of speedways great "what ifs" . What if Briggo, who had already beaten Mauger in his first ride had not been taken off by Perrson, would he have gone on to be world champion ? What if Olsen had settled for a safe second in his first ride and not fallen off chasing Loftqvist ? He won his last four rides, including beating Mauger, and would have been World Champion unless  Briggo could have stopped him.

Could we have seen Briggo with five world titles  and Mauger only five?

Personally, I think luck was with Mauger in the 72 final although against him in 73.

I often thought  Barry had slipped a bit in 72 his figures were still good but the odd slip up here and there and i know he had a couple of years with niggly aquipment issues which did not help. But the final in 72 if Olsen was unbeaten before meeting him who knows if Briggs had beat Persson  and after Olsen had fell  i am convinced Briggo could of won on 14 pts all hyphathetical i know still wrangles me even now.

Very true Sid, and it is to Maugers credit than he acknowledged that if it wasn't for Mirac and Briggo , who were a few years older , Ivan himself doesn't think he would have got where he did. I don't suppose we'll ever see the like of them again.

To think Addio he had a six year lay off from Britain  from 1963 ( only aged 30 maybe entering his peak? ) to 1969 .Could he have won more titles who knows he was in two tough eras  the 50s and the 60s i think the likes of Ronnie and Bjorn Knutsson often go unheralded both GREAT riders people like Norbold ( etc) will back that up.Perssonally  i only see Ronnie ride five times but I remember him  as a rider who rode  great  racing lines the Wimbledon DVD shows that showing Ronnie beating Ivan at Plough lane poetry in motion.

...I was chuffed that I was able to see him ride during his last full season. 14 points at Poole I recall.

What i thought was amazing was that the three great Kiwi's all got on well together and  all have total respect for each other great stuff.

We would all like to think so but I do have concerns. Giving all riders the freedom of the flyer could actually increase XT delays.

I think the riders who move constantly will punish themselves over  a whole season anyway.   The referee 's job is to make sure the riders do not hit the tapes and get the tapes up in a smooth manor it should be better it cannot be any worse than last year restarts galore and it might add a bit to the entertainment side of thing's.

Thats exactly what I am saying Sid, words mean very little. It' all about the quality of the night out starting on April 4th. I'm sure the club are under no illusions that they have to pull their socks up but whatever they come out and say before then is irrelevant if the racing and VFM isn't good. Silimarly the disgruntled punters now need to give them the opportunity to get it right.

I am sure there are plenty of Lynn fans who will give them a chance Bagpuss i really hope so.Myself personally at times in the last twenty years or so  i have sometimes felt i was going to speedway just on habit rather than wanting to go then a great race or meeting comes along and the old excitement comes back.As you say be nice if some of the supporters wipe the slate clean and judge from there on in.

  16. 37 minutes ago, Bagpuss said:

Wait and see is the key phrase. Whatever anyone says on either side of the fence ie club or supporters means very little, it's what actually happens on the first few race nights that really counts. Hopefully everybody will be able to put 2017 behind them and move forward.

I think the opposite Bagpuss with what happened last season and nothing really changing since if the Stars start off poorly the gates could tail off. That is why for me producing a good product and providing  a decent night out can camouflage over having a struggling side.If the entertainment element is not there and the team is also struggling then i think you will  have real problems i hope things go well as Kings Lynn are a large part of British speedway great history and good supporters.

If your insinuating ive had a ban i most certainly havent.

Im actually seperating from my wife and on 25th January moved into new accomadation which at the moment doesnt have internet connection set up.

Been a stressful time as i have 2 children and being apart from them even for the odd night is very strange and not easy to get used to. So pretty much ive not had much time or desire or the means to actually get on the forum much.

Some Poole fans have mocked me in the past for the fact i only go Ipswich 4 or 5 times a season as i put my family first, well im sure they will be happy to know ive got more chance this season for obvious reasons.

Good luck  all the best you still have two kids to focus on for the future.

  18. What i cant understand is that a few King's Lynn fans have ridiculed some  for voicing there opinion they insinuate they are moaning for the sake of it.Some of these are long serving supporters who only want what is best for King's Lynn speedway.Every supporter is important whether you have been going for 50 years or 5 years but if you think about it if clubs lose there diehard supporters the clubs will be knackered not anough of the  new blood supporter is coming in to replace these Oldies.

My hope is we get back to making me feel it’s the place to be on a Wednesday night do that and I will be there as will others who have walked away - for me it’s definitely not all about winning it’s about being entertained with great racing on track and a feel good atmosphere off track - both have sadly been missing - putting a £1 on admission isn’t the best incentive to get missing fans back for us a night at KL speedway costs around £65 for two of us including travel costs which could be spent on other things and was last half of last season .

I feel the same way Haza ok winning is nice but would you rather win everyweek watching alot of dross or go there win or lose coming away thinking god that was a good night out. It does bemuse me that some people have to win at all costs for me enjoy the company of good friends and have a good night out that is what it is all about. At Swindon in Rossiter a passionate bloke who does not always like what he hears but he does LISTEN and i believe him along with Lee Kilby are two forward thinking people at Swindon.Could Mr Chapman of opologised about last year? i think so and a memory of mine last year was his interview at Swindon on BT it was a utter disgrace cringeworthy to be honest anyway i hope you enjoy your speedway in 2018 Haza.

Nope, however this time he has the chairman on the same team so fingers crossed he can make a bigger difference than I did.

How do you think the season will go JC ? does the promotion need to win back the respect of the supporters again i believe so.The dangerous thing for me is there are a few real die hard supporters on here who the club are not that far off losing forever a dangerous situation .I have to say i am not that convinced with the team assembled so far but fingers crossed they are competitive Kings Lynn are a great club and i hope they can mix it this year. For me the important thing is to get the racing back to a good standard god thirty years ago King's Lynn was  certainly in the top five racetracks in the U.K now it seems a different track it seems like it is to quick there now but they can get the track back at its best it is a great racetrack.

  21. I watch alot of the Polish racing and what a  great product it is to. Outside of the top boys who are next in line to break through be interesting to get some predictions. Drabik - Smektala- Woryna- Kubera out of those four for me Drabik will definitely be a GP rider Smektala i really like has  improved alot in my opinion Woryna to has real talent the strength in depth Poland have is frightening.

...I missed this final as I was in Jersey (as my brother constantly reminds me!). As an Oxford and White City fan obviously Gordon was my choice that year...and he got very close to becoming champion (strange that his potential 'easy' race he allowed Ila Teromaa to beat him) as he out shone more established candidates that day. Never liked Olsen and it would have been interested if they had met in a rub-off for the title?

Ivan admitted that his bike was slowing and to his credit he never blamed Gordon for clipping him as he passed by.

It was not the best of Finals i  really wanted Lee or Autrey to win it but it was not to be also supported Jan Andersson  but he struggled and only scored 3 points.Wembley as an occasion was something else the racing not the best but the Atmosphere was something else to be fair though Len Silver did produce a great track for the 81 final..

You never know Sid,   the NSS was just a pipe dream as far as plenty were concerned, there was originally talk of training schools being operated.  In an ideal world it would be a fantastic way of welcoming Chris Morton back into the fold, all those years of experience and track-craft would be put to the best possible use and Chris would be where he belongs in some capacity.

You are the only one on all threads who have actually said give Chris a chance to comeback in some capacity.Myself i would love it if the sport would get Chris get involved again i would  encourage that tomorrow but it won't happen.

How could I have not included the late great Dent Oliver in my post shame on me.

Yes that's one of the reasons I think the 72 team was one of the greats because 5 of  team were home grown talent plus Sjosten who was as good as.All down to Dent Oliver.

Would they allow training schools on a Saturday  now BV,  ?          with     health and safety and noise issues i doubt it that is one of the reasons young riders are not coming through now  not anough track time. With the old second halves quite a few novices come through the system reached there level now most of the talent  are Moto cross and grass riders be great to have tracks open to all classes bikes to rent and who knows who might come through a pipe dream i know.
