Surely your joking. Rickardsson was an absolutely immense talent on a bike. Some of the moves he made were out of this world, he was simply awesome.

As for Loram, entertaining yes exciting yes, one of the most skilled ever? Do me a favour! He had an exceptionally good year in 2000 and a good half season the year before but was always IMO in the shadow of Crump and Rickardsson, even Hamill.

He was a very entertaining rider but even in league speedway, when he was around I would always of taken Crump, Rickardsson, Hamill, Adams, Sullivan and probably Hancock over him to lead my team. If he could gate it could of been a different story, but he couldnt and thats half the battle so thats that.

Richardsson was very   good  i was never a big fan of his to be honest and  he would not  be in my all time top five riders ever riders Mauger,Fundin,Briggs,Olsen,Nielsen would all be above him but anyway only my opinion how is your strawberry picking going in Aussie?

Because he is never going to get any better and a new young rider like Andersen has potential to be much better than his assessed average.

Bagpuss you have made your point over Auty but he is better than Kerr and Rose in my opinion saying that i like Rose always have done see him at Swindon  loads of time for him. This Dane coming in why is he not in the top 5 ? he should be he needs to come in and hit the road running  is he that good ? he might be you don't know that do you?

Doyle would have been at Swindon if a little gang of promoters hadn't ganged together and voted to make sure that the top clubs had to release a rider over 8. I'm sure Jason will be happy at Somerset - and may stay there in the future - but there's no way he would have been there if Somerset and the like hadn't voted for it.

Anyway, the result of the supposed restrictions everyone decided to place on teams is that everyone is going to get stuffed by Poole again. So well done all.

I understand why Swindon did it but it will be gut wrenching when the 2017 world champ comes back to the Abbey with Somerset.Crazy not to have a WC back the following season but again the promoters f.....  up over the crazy only one 8 point man only.

A fairer comparison would be Mauger v Rickardsson. Having watched both, it would make a thread of it’s own>

But you did not see Ivan at his peak did you ?  You see him on the way down but even then he was pretty dam good.,,

I think I've managed to decipher that nonsense you call English... I think you're trying to say that I lack knowledge? Well clearly I don't, but whatever helps you sleep at night. Ivan had a win at all costs attitude. He believed that the spirit of the rule wasn't important, and that the word of the rule was all that mattered. This is the exact same philosophy that Matt Ford has had for the past decade, and the very same philosophy you try to slate. Oh, and do you know who else has started to adopt that attidue? None other than your good old pal Rosco! (When he's not spending his time trying to plan his next witty dad joke for the TV cameras that is ;) )

Anyway, I'd scrub up on your English if I were you because it's tiring to try and read.

So  you are saying Ivan Mauger won all his six titles by bending the rules is that right ?.  Mauger won all his title's because he was the best rider in the world and he worked damn hard to do it ,you  cannot even mention Ford in the same breath as Mauger Ivan had integrity and class.

Umm.... I don't think you're intelligent enough to continue our debate.

I have seen good days and bad days. Like I have said a million times, but you choose to ignore, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE WINNING... but it is a damn good part, and without it we wouldn't make enough money for this sport to survive.

I've spent years watching every bit of footage available and reading many books. So yes, I did watch as much of Ivan as I could. And let's be honest... he didn't have a shade on Darcy anyway ;)

You are a Pr...        of the highest order , you keep on reading your books and going on you tube because you need to your knowledge is non  existent.

It's particularly annoying when you don't actually read the post you're replying to. Like I said, winning isn't everything, but it's the best part for sure. More importantly, winning is what brings the money in. Without the money you'll have no sport left to enjoy.

I've been a supporter of the pirates for 20 years. And the fact that people get great delight in us failing is great! You win some and you lose some. If us losing lights the fire in your belly then we're doing a good job.

There is a difference between manipulating the rule book and getting the most out of the rules. Understanding the rules and working out how to use them to your advantage is almost as important as the racing itself. And the very same philosophy that Ivan Mauger lived by.

Did you ever watch Mauger ride at his peak and  in his later years probably not ???? don't even mention Ivan in the same light as Poole speedway .If you have been a supporter for twenty years you  would of  seen some good days and bad surely you are not that thick to believe you can win every year try to be realistic.

It's a competitive sport you old codger. People don't pay to watch their team lose. A winning team produces a big crowd, not a losing team who rushed to sign a sub 3 pointer because a few old men found him exciting.

I'd like to see James in the squad, but he's certainly not top priority and he's been treated exactly how a risky sub 3 pointer with no experience should be treated.

Imagine if you'd spent 10 years finessing your trade just for a potential employer to be more interested in the inexperienced apprentice (because he had better banter on the job and that was a bit more interesting), how would you feel?

I think you might want to reevaluate your arse and elbow situation as I'd suggest there is a chance you've mixed the two up.

I am hardly an old codger  but who cares , but if winning is everything to you and your club i feel sorry for you. When

your club fails ( and by the way you speak you have not been a supporter for long if at all???)  alot of people take great delight in you failing and  they saviour the moment.Your promoter brings that a win at all costs mentality sod the sport as a whole and manipulates the rulebook for his own needs and he has been a genius at doing it for well over a decade  and that will be his legacy.

That sentence makes no sense.   I presume you're trying to say you've been drinking?

Pretty simple really Belle Vue have one spot to fill and i would predict most Belle Vue fans would be very happy with Shanes

No he shouldn't. It doesn't matter if he was exciting. Putting together a team that will win is first priority.

Winning is not a priority entertainment comes first if you have not got a crowd  then you haven't got a club end of.

Why are you trying to palm him off on Belle Vue?  If you're so bothered about him, why not take him to Swindon, which would suit him better geographically?

God i wish Swindon could sign him  I bet 95 per cent of Belle Vue fans would to have you been on the Brandy ???

  12. 2 hours ago, ray c said:

and at the end of the day the only loser could be james and that would be a disgrace

That's why Belle Vue should sign him right away , how can Shanes get  properly organised to be honest he has been treated very poorly   Belle Vue would suit him down to the ground.

Wolves went with loyalty for years and it got them one chamionship in god knows how many years.

when the promotion got ruthless the last two years it resulted in a championship and a runners up spot

The club has always been run well and often the club being loyal fitted in with there budget. For me i prefer continuity i hate loads of  changes every year in the teams.

In those days, the Promoters realised that the Supporters were there to be entertained - and that was all part of it. Like burning Johnnie Hoskins' Hat. All part of the fun.

Apart from the actual racing, there is little else for Supporters to watch these days - apart from the Tractor.

In those  days WK it was all about being entertained  you are right now it bloody annoys me when people say you have to have riders who can only improve what  about riders who give there all and entertain.Winning is not everything try to win but not at any cost winning is not everything there can  only be one winner. What would you rather WK ? be entertained have a good night out with friends and win nothing or watch a team that wins every week but the entertainment value is non existent.

I think both you and Gavan have provided interesting and fair comments in this forum discussion on Kurtz v Morris which at least has kept some interest in the Poole 2018 forum in these dark and dreary close season nights.

I support Poole but have to agree Morris was the better rider in 2017 in the Prem, especially when you also factor in Morris's bonus points.

But I think that although Morris is only 2.5 years older than Kurtz we need to look closer at the stats which tells its own story.

Morris came to UK in 2010 as a young wild rider who gained a bit of a reputation being compared to often to Darcy Ward which was unfair. He has ridden Prem (or equiv) for a long time with his first season in the top flight 2011 where he rode 17 times with a GSA of 5.30. Since then his GSA's have been 5.78 - 5.90 - 6.31 - 6.70 - 6.41 - 8.87.

So over 7 seasons we have seen the emergence of Morris into a heat leader and being 24 in June his riding has matured. Remember that is 7 seasons not one or two. He has toned down some of his wild behaviour which got him into hot water a few times and pressed on in UK as a top rider, although not quite broken into POL EXL, but still plenty of time. That youthful over exuberance has gone and now you have the young man who is a top UK rider.

Brady Kurtz has ridden 2 seasons in the Prem and at 21 has achieved GSA's of 6.36 then last seasons 8.08. Not bad for 2 seasons in the top flight and last season also had an injury that dragged his GSA down a bit as he had to find fitness again after the injury later in the season in a team that also struggled.

Who ultimately is the better long term prospect ?? - Based on what the short term shows maybe Kurtz, but after what Doyle achieved I think he reset the bar on what riders can achieve even into their thirties.

As a Poole supporter I hate the pressure that is piled on him with the comparisons to a top riding Darcy Ward or Chris Holder (when he was top). As a young guy finding his way he needs to find his level at his own pace and not just because he rode so well last year he will improve on that this year.

Morris had 6 seasons in the top flight prior to his 8.87 season so perhaps we need to put things into perspective. Similar with Fricke and Jack Holder. I think we are fortunate to see these young Aussies with obvious class, same as I hope to be saying the same with young Woryna in the coming years.

I appreciate that these things keep the forum going in these quiet days but you have to sometimes dig below the surface when comparing say Morris to Kurtz. Hopefully they will both win their share of races and will indeed be interesting how they shape up when riding against each other this coming season.

Good post and it is not about being right or wrong Morris,Kurtz,Fricke,J.Holder are all riders i would pay 18 pounds to see ride. I  have enjoyed watching Nick progress and  Rosco should take alot of credit for that.

  19. The Kurtz v Morris debate is very interesting just looked up some stats Morris rode with the World Champion 39 times in the season Doyle won 22/17 just shows you Morris had the tougher campaign both are very talented along with Fricke and J.Holder.

There is a hell of a difference riding as your teams number one, expected to go all out winning races and leading from the front, to being a teams second heatleader. Far less pressure to produce wins.

Also , he rides with a reserve in his first three programmed rides where as number ones are paired with a second string in their first three . More chance of a second string coming in ahead of a number one than a reserve coming in ahead of their number 5 partner.

As said , we will have to see this season how they go. Fully fit over a full season, with the rate hes improving, I would fancy Kurtz to end the season with a higher average than Morris.

With Doyle out of the way i expect Morris to kick on again he is more consistent than Kurtz and the league is weaker this year.At home i expect Morris to really excell double figures plus every week that is how good he is at the Abbey.

  21. 5 minutes ago, Pinny said:

Well he topped the league averages so though dominant may not quite be right, Morris was still the best part of a point below him and Doyle took the pressure off him.

Now he is the teams star number one, theres question marks over whether he can go out and win the big heat 13 and 15’s.

hopefully he does, always been a fan of him.

I believe he has really progressed nicely a steady burner like Thorssell at Wolves what people forget about Nick is how good he is from the back.He is very tenacious a real racer and i look forward to him progressing further this year.

  22. 2 minutes ago, Pinny said:

I quite like Morris, but in all honesty he was second behind a dominant Doyle in the averages last season whilst Kurtz was at number one most of the season.

It remains to be seen if Morris can maintain his starting average whilst riding at number one next season...

Doyle was not that dominant at Premiership level, Morris never looked out of place riding with him and I believe he can kick on and Morris will be tough to beat at the Abbey.
