  1. My top 7 same as yours, Wardy also brilliant, and Nilsen was very good. Andersen super skipper in 2012 champions side.

Heat 15 last night was a superb race, even though nothing at stake, a great night's entertainment

Ward well i was honoured to see him ride for only a few months for the Robins he was oozing class all those you named spot on "beefy have to give Peter Moore/ George White a mention to.

  2. I used to love the second halves and for me there is still a place for them or maybe four junior races.Myself i would run the junior races in amongst the 15 heat meeting not after the meeting it could easily be done with a prompt 7.30 start I was talking to my mate Hagonshocker at Swindon last night we both said if speedway did go to one big league how that could affect our talented crop of youngsters coming through.?Could it hinder there development.? the likes of Brennan,Jenkins,Hume,Rowe,JPB,Bickley,Woodihull,Hampshire, ( ect) would the gap be to big from a developement league to a fully fledged one big league how could you implement these riders in without destroying there progress.

  3. Have they reduced the banking on the corners at Blunsdon?...it certainly looks like it.

It was noticeable how much the riders can really attack bends 3 and 4 and try to make passing moves...but the opposite on bends 1 and 2.

I know it's downhill on the home straight....and it was with a breeze behind...but I've never witnessed riders at Blunsdon struggle around bends 1 and 2 so much.

A dip into bend 1 also seems to have formed. Leading to many of the riders drifting wide, having to lock up or even get out of shape.

I agree with what was said before about the track preparation...it was excellent.

It occurred to me how important it was to get a decent start at Blunsdon...I can't recall seeing so many restarts before there.

Enjoyed watching the new Pole adapt...reminded me a little of Renat Gaforov.

As for Doyle...obviously got fast machinery, but imo, shouldn't be in the same sentence as Leigh Adams, who was different class in many ways. ;-)

Doyle has to be in the Swindon Legends section certainly in the top 10 riders ever to wear a Robins racejacket.Briggs,Crump,Ashby,Adams,Doyle,Kilby,Broadbanks,Autrey, Zagar ,Petersen.(no order). If he wins the WC and i think he will he will jump the quew and will only be behind Briggo in the immortals.

  4. Not a bad night's racing quite reasonable i have seen worse, also the crowd was very good Swindon as a team were very good tonight very comfortable. For Rye Nicholls showed his old skill, at times looked slow but he rode some brilliant lines and his track-craft is second to none.Maybe i am wrong but Nicholls seemed to have mechanical problems in a few races where he slowed? but Scott was decent tonite.Musielak for me is the one he gated poorly in his first two rides give it a real go from the back and he is exciting got it together in his last two rides. This bloke reminds me style wise a bit like Zagar he will prove to be a a great signing for the Robins.

  5. As a Reading Racers supporter, it's a hard watch supporting Swindon at the best of times.. but when it comes to Poole, local rivalries go out of the window...

Funny thing is Doctor i went to Reading from 84/88 regular loved it supported Holloway,Glanz , and PER loved Monday nights. When smallmead was prepared it was a great track great entertainment and the Geoff Curtis bar grub was good to.

  6. I guess we've now got to put up with Starman and a few of the other clowns over the next few hours deflecting off this onto some notion that it's all an average throwing exercise with some supposed masterplan lurking in the background.

Well done Swindon anyway.. enjoy your shandy Sidney

Thanks were you impartial tonight Doctor??? were you just interested in the result. ? After all the banter Poole will be back a great team over the years cant deny that if they get the right changes they are still in the mix.

  7. I can remember Jack Millen riding with a broken Collar Bone, and at another time with his leg in plaster, his boot cut open to accommodate the plaster.

It wouldn't be allowed nowadays I suspect with Health and Safety the way it is - and actually that is probably a good thing.

Jack would of rode with a broken neck WK if need be a tough old boy.WK did Jack marry a local girl in Paisley or somewhere in Scotland.???

  8. The winter of 1992 was the beginning of the end for me (started going in 1972) really although I continued to attend mostly home meetings until 2003.

The supposed pay structure was introduced for the 1993 season and the promotion at Oxford felt that they couldn't offer Hans what he felt he was worth within the pay 'restraints'...he eventually moved to Coventry who were able to meet his demands with improved sponsorship etc. Funny how the promotion at Coventry were able to meet his demands?

Personally I felt that Hans was made a scapegoat by the then Oxford Promotion (Northern Sports and Kevin Hedderley in particular) as their other business interests were struggling and Cowley suffered accordingly.

The nineties for me up until,Crump/Gollob arrived on the scene was not the best i never really took to Ricko so that made a difference.1998 until now has been ok i do HATE how the GP series calls the shots yet our league clubs are never compensated in a way our clubs are dictated to yet get nothing back .Its like me owning a corner shop having to shut down on certain days, yet get no compensation back the series is decent but it has totally screwed British speedway bigtime.

  9. I was there Sid!

Remember Dennis' maximum but wasn't aware that he and 'Kilb' never met during the meeting. I seem to recall a similar occurrence when Reading met Coventry and both Ole Olsen and Jiri Stancl both scored maximums riding for opposite teams but never actually met each other during the meeting!

You were right mate Dementia setting in Kilb 14 beaten only in heat 13 by Ivan, Sigalos 15 from no 7 unbeaten Joe Owen broke down an route.

  10. Early signs of dementia

Yes I was there Sid...he was simply out on his own that day! Great stylist and i presented him with a bottle of champagne at Oxford's final meeting in 1975!

Steve i can remember Dag smashing his face up badly( got photograph) i think it was a WC European Final championship round??? he still qualified for the Gothenburg world final in 74.

  11. Good call.He used to train on ice in the winter,so was used to tricky surfaces

He was superb in the Mike Keen testimonial that has to be one of the wettest meetings i have ever seen the 83 BLRC was another one horrendous conditions.

  12. Never stopped going but i did get bored in the early nineties went to home meetings only like now apart from the odd meeting here and there .Jason Crump got me interested again when he started up on a 2.00 point average still enjoy it now but not as much.

  13. No, I went to GB v Sweden 68, 12000 official crowd, but hundreds climbed in. Stopped watching speedway around 72, then had 32 year break, still lovin it!

Were you asleep for 32 years?😂😂 why the gap puzzling did you fall out of love with the sport i did in the nineties.

  14. Yes Swindon legend, Ferndale Road lad, his son Lee is nice guy. Wish I had seen the 67 side, first meeting on moving from London, a Dons fan,1968 Swindon beat Belle Vue 56-22, Kilbs and Briggo max.

I never see the 67 side "beefy but have this Swindon Robins 67 side memorabilia item with all the autographs of the riders my uncle gave it to me.My only gripe is i have one missing Peter Jackson i so wish i could get it.Going back to the Abbey "beefy did you go to the England v New Zealand test match where Kilb got 16 (beaten twice by Briggo) and Briggs got a 18 point max.??

  15. Il get shouted down for this but if there were qualifiers there's a risk some might be riders who got in and have no chance, just like the old one offs. In the good old days you could write off half the field before it started. Imagine having say 10 gps where half the field have no chance. The way it is now is a bit of a closed shop but so is the moto gps , formula 1 etc. So does speedway go back in time when everything was better, or was it? Just a thought

In a Gp now would you say there are about 8/10 who could win any round and at anytime.? In yesteryear in the one off W finals what do you recon 5/6 who could of been a serious challenger so not that much difference really.Saying that the series is in good shape just feel the top eight is going a bit stale could be tweaked some what.

  16. Remember when Killer rode for Swindon's arch rivals. They asked him to list 3 teams he wished to ride for. He wrote...Swindon, Swindon, Swindon.

Didnt like him riding for Oxford just didnt seem right nice to see him ride of course but it was strange.Going to Exeter like Crash got him out of Briggos shadow and he was a in/out top class no 1 beating the likes of Mauger,Olsen,Briggs along the way. When you think of Kilb have a look back at his testimonial line up top class and the crowd that was there that just showed how much respect he had from riders and fans he was a one off.

  17. There are so many things that need addressing in British /world speedway so it is hard to know where to start but what are the FIVE issues that really irritate you and you would like to change.Mine are 1./ Averages go back to basics one average every month including BPs. 2./Scrap the double points rule. 3./ One big league meaning more variety and fixtures. - 4./The GP series to change the top eight qualifying every-year open it up stop it from being a closed shop. 5./ The Championship and PL to work TOGETHER not against each other and with as many British riders getting places as possible.
