  1. Now you've mentioned it, that seems to ring a bell, although I don't know what stage talks got to. Round about the time we were meant to be signing Keith Chrisco from Birmingham, I think he (Chrisco) had agreed terms and then decided about a week before the start of the season that he was going to stay in the States.

Can remember the Chrisco speculation and he would of been a very good rider i think a very exciting rider.

  2. Well done Plymouth.....best team on the night!

What was Tom Bacon playing at?

Adam Roynon was brilliant and was a pleasure to watch!

Liam Carr was awesome in the last heat!

Track was perfect.....a few prem clubs should take a few lessons off our track staff!

Enjoyed watching Adam at the Abbey last week i just want him to get his place back in the Championship.Hampshire i believe will be a good signing to a young lad with talent.

  3. I first started going at the back end of 1967 and just remember the 1 reserve format. Two reserves seems to be a 'modern' invention but it's probably many decades old. Need a speedway historian. One of the early matches I attended at Monmore was against Swindon and I was rather annoyed that we couldn't beat some bloke called Briggs who won all 4 of his races. LOL.

I started going in 69 and the reserve format 6/7/6/7' race was there then, v Halifax at home Boocock beat Briggs in heat 1 and again in the Silver Sash that stuck in my mind not many beat Briggo at the Abbey then.

  4. Can't see many turning up for this one, hopefully a rain off, if not Wolves could hit mid 50s with no Morra. Robins season could then be over, but still have heaps of home matches left in July and August.

Financial disaster for the club, with only 4 home matches so far, its all a bloody farce!

Still no sign of shiny new stadium.

I saw Olsen and Mauger ride together for Newcastle at Swindon 1968. Briggs was injured no guest, it was inevitable their unbeaten home record stretching back 3 years went up the spout, 38-39.

Yes 38-39 R/R Briggo Mauger 11. Olsen Paid11 both beaten by Broadbank Newcastle then had two strong reserves Dave Gifford and Alan Jay they scored 13 between them.

  5. Riders have always missed meeting for a variety of reasons. Food Poisoning seems to be the in vogue one. I seem to recall the Great Ivan Mauger went a whole season without riding an away match, cant think which club it is was for now. He struck a deal that he would only to do home meetings, and the BSPA allowed it.. Now if you want to point the figure about riders missing meetings for whatever reason, and being allowed to get away it then look no further to who's door to lay the blame. The tail has wagged the dog for many years, and its getting worse.

Mauger Exeter did home meetings only in 1984.

  6. Thanks for the confirmation Sid regarding Rafal...I had relocated by then and ceased going to Cowley.

Oxford used the R/R/R for Has during 1975...he rode in one official match against Hull plus a couple of challenge matches...one of my favourites!

The Lomas/Kilby was a complexed issue. Garry Middleton no longer wanted to ride for Oxford (more's the pity in my view) and a swap was agreed with Coventry although Tony Lomas wasn't keen on a move to Cowley. When Ivan Mauger turned up at Exeter that unsettled Bob Kilby so a swap was involved between Oxford and Exeter.

That wasn't the end of the affair, however, and it still gripes with me. Oxford paid a transfer fee for Middleton and when Kilby affectively replaced him he was seen as an Oxford asset but when Bob went back to Swindon in 1975 they refused to pay a fee claiming him to be one of theirs...which he technically was...but, as usual, speedway being speedway Oxford got a bum deal!

Sorry my mistake Steve 1974 was the Swedish ban wasnt it? Samuelsson and Holmqvist were two swedes who were both underated.Myself i hated Bob riding for Oxford so glad he came back home where he belonged was one of my favourites. As for Oxford my favourites had to be Genz, Dag, and Middleton and throw in Rick Timmo as well.

  7. Rafal Dubrucki rode in 2004 for Oxford did Oxford have R/R for Hasse in 1973/74? i can remember Sexton being mentioned and i think around 73 there was a swap between Lomas and Killer.

I know that Gene Woods rode for Birmingham and, I think, Wimbledon for a short while. Sid just beat me to it as I was typing this!

Oxford tried to tempt Jeff Sexton to ride (whether it was just talk of not) during 1974 (?) but nothing came of it.

Did he not ride for Oxford or am I thinking of someone else?

I seem to recall that Wimbledon were discussing the possibility of Mike Bast riding for them in 1975 but, again, nothing came of it.

Mike Bast and Christer Lofqvist were two riders who were have supposed to have signed for Wimbledon.

    Didn't Christian ride for Birmingham?

Can't think of any decent yanks who didn't ride in Britain?

Gene Woods had a short spell at Birmingham and Wimbledon and Christian never ventured over here i think he might of nearly signed for Sheffield once though.?

  9. My favourite programme had to be the 1980 Sheffield programme rather big but great value. Also the colourful Eastbourne programme with Gordon Kennett on the front was half decent always found World Final programmes poor.

  10. But he has been consistently one of the top 10 riders in the world, arguably until last season. I think he certainly deserves inclusion ahead of a number of riders listed here.

I have always been a fan,but up until this year he has never really bothered about the GPS for me he has been in a safety zone.

  11. In English please.

Nah. Chris4gillian is no Poole fan. Just some couch potato from the other side of Southampton seeking glory. Seen a few pics of the bloke online. Never seen him at Poole. He said he stands on the first or second bend so I will look out for him, though more chance of seeing Lord Lucan riding Shergar into the pits.

You are so much up your own backside it is unreal to be honest is that CLEAR anough for you.You are an embarrassment to Poole speedway most of there fans must think god who is this moron go back and support Swindon.

  12. Your assesment is yours, and mine all my own. I dont go around attacking posters because they have a different opinion. You are clearly a troll posting on here to become some sort of mouthpiece for the condescending.

Clearly you are the type of person who thinks only his opinion is correct. Poole supporter my arse. Where were you at any away meeting this year? Where were you last night? On the couch at home!

You are clearly not a proper Poole fan. Never seen you at any meeting home or away. A couch potato seeking glory from the club closest to your house.

As for skiving off work don't make me laugh. I run an extremely successful business and can take time off whenever I choose.

A proper Poole fan supporting his team home and away.

You ent done to badly out of Brexit then have you seriously you are so up your own ass hole its unreal cringeworthy

  13. p

My assessment is completely different to yours. If you can't see that then there really is no hope for you.

I haven't posted on the Poole Forum regularly for well over a year so that's another crock of crap from you!! And you have absolutely NO IDEA how many times I've been to Poole this season, last season or for the last 35 odd years I've been supporting them.

Oh and not all of us can skive off work like you can at a drop of a hat to have a jolly watching the Pirates, however I have been to most tracks over the years, some quite frequently.

You get told time and time again you're full of bull and this post is no exception.

Every club has 'one' and you're most definitely ours...with Starman egging you on which is embarrassing to say the least.

But i always thought he was a Swindon supporter?.?once 😜

  15. Well lets take stock after last night's meeting.

Firstly it is confirmed that Hans has NOT suffered a neck fracture as first feared. GREAT NEWS. He will give his Swedish meeting a miss tonite but intends to race on Friday in Denmark!!

To be beaten fairly and squarely by 4 points, by (imo) the best team in the league, is no disgrace when missing one heat leader and only having 5 functioning riders, although I questioned the balance and riding order of the team when it was announced last night along with some of the r/r selections??!!

    Well done Belle Vue.

Klindt is clearly unlikely to be fully fit for the foreseeable future but his 6.21 average after last night doesn't leave too many decent options!!!? The Poole Aussie boys were clearly out to show Mark Lemon the error of his Team Australia selections!! :-) Starkey scoring 9 points and having the race of the night, more than did his job, along with young Shanes - we've just been spoilt having Nicolai at reserve!!

KK returns for the Kings Lynn meeting on 12th July - but will there be another change by then - or later??

Whatever the state of the track - and it was quite poor last night - I doubt that there will be any major work carried out on it until the Stadium developments/changes/improvements are made clear by Stadia UK - especially if any changes involve a 're-positioning' of the track and/or the stadium?!

Having watched the meeting live and then the TV version this morning I was pleased with the BT approach but totally annoyed by Pearson's commentary as well as his continued banging on about Tai in his Matchday programme column. No bias there is there??!!!!!

I'm sure MF will have got all the reports on last night from his 'team' as he was unable to witness it first hand due to a prior commitment!!

Onwards and upwards. (ps. At least I gather from 'sources' that we could already have next season's main sponsors sorted!! ;-) )

Some on here said Starke was average like you said he mixed it took risks rode well and Shanes did his job Holder and Kurtz Poole have a great foundation for the future if there is one.?

  16. What a prat you are but we all know that anyway.☹️️

A complete prat and that is being generous, Thursday at 6.30 why not go to the pits and have a chat with Batchelor tell him what you think.??

Be civil Sid man... its nice to be nice

Why would i be civil to Orion ?? that is a certain no no.
