  1. Only Harris and AJ could make way out of the current crop imo.

Vaculik and Emil would take the series onto the next level.

Out of the qualifiers though, not many would add anything really, as all like for like apart from Vaculik.

What really needs to happen is the rift or the problem with the Russian authorities need sorting, the Lagutas and Emil need to be part of the series and WTC

    No Dudek? surely not.

  2. I would help you if I could Sidney the robin but cannot. So far as Eric Langton is concerned the only seasons that he rode in when I followed speedway was 1946 and 1947. But in that era I was only a 13-year-old follower of New Cross while Langton was a towering personality in the Belle Vue side and the only time I saw him was when he appeared at "the frying pan" (as the 262-yard New Cross track was known).

Ernie Roccio, the American became involved with nearby Wimbledon in the same period of the 1950s that I was doing RAF National Service at Preston, Lancs, then tragically died in a 1953 accident at West Ham just after my National Service ended.

When I did start involvement writing bits and pieces about speedway circa 1953 onwards, Jack Young was a dominant figure in the West Ham side, whereas I was living in South London and mainly centred my attentions on Wimbledon after New Cross closed midway through 1953. My writings for various speedway publications (before becoming involved at 'Speedway Star') from 1954 onwards were mainly on the six tracks then in the Southern Area League.

By the time I did participate full-time in speedway writing, Jack Young had moved to Coventry while the main London concentration for me (apart from domestic office duties at the 'Star') was Wimbledon, in which Barry Briggs was the rider I mainly dealt with.

So it's regrets in regard to your request Sidney the robin, but I wish you well in your research. It could well be that I might be able to help you in regard to any queries you may have in regard to Langton, Roccio and Young, but so far as first-hand contact comments about them are concerned I regret I cannot help you.

    Thanks "Gustix".no worries.

  3. Because hes riding against NL riders and PL second strings which is his level, never been a top boy in the PL

He has been in the top 8 /12 averages in the PL a couple of times also if you look he has had two 16 point totals this year and could of had two 18 point

Maximums if you look back. Not as bad as you make out odviously disappointing but not the mug you you make out.

  4. If you have not read Norman Jacobs' book on Tom Farndon you really should.

Loving your trio of great names but make it a quartet with Bluey Wilkinson. The war and an early death cut short what surely would have been an illustrious career.

My uncle who first took me to speedway he is 86 now always mentioned Farndon,Huxley, Duggan also he was a fan of Hunt/ Warren. You or Gustix have you any real memories of Jack Young, Ernie Roccio. Eric Langton? i am doing some research books pictures memorabilia (ect) on all those riders any info would be great.

  5. Can't really agree with the riding abroad part of this, this was held in Britain and the Brits still weren't good enough.

Lambert unlucky? Just not good enough yet, at least he has time on his side. Cook unlucky? a bad last after he looked like he was going to go through the card and a silly fall

How was Lambert not good anough? a strange comment he would of scored 11 pts if it was not for a ef.For me if i was Rosco/England hierarchy i would support and push as much as possible to help Lambert he is the future. If he was a Pole he would get help and support,Lambert to me has the tools and talent to be able to mix it at the highest level in the next five years.

Yes but Cook has a better chance surely. The sad thing about the whole day, is that Tai might as well turn up on his own for the World Cup, as it's become obvious that there isn't anyone else up to the job.

Cook is what 28/29? he also is not riding great in the EL every bit of experience Lambert can get will fast track his progress.

  6. Lambert very unlucky, plenty of time on his side as you say sid. Would rather see him get a semi final wildcard than Harris. Cook unlucky to finish behind Kurtz tbf, Kurtz gained a point when kk fell I believe. And cook then fell in one heat. A point there, and the point masters gained due to Lamberts ef, could easily have had both brits through.

Could Lambert still get a wildcard?

  7. Kings Lynn

    10 Krzysztof Buczkowski

    10 Peter Ljung

    10 Nicolas Covatti

    9 Jurica Pavlic =res

    Slangerup

    12 Bartosz Zmarzlik

    11 Andreji Karpov

    11 Mikkel Bech

    10 Martin Vaculik

    10 Thomas H Johansson

    9 Andzejs Lebedevs

    8 Anders Thomsen =res

Not many shocks but sadly the British riders just miss out. Is the lack of racing abroad a reason possibly and the fact in recent years Cook, Lambert and Garrity have concentrated more on doubling up rather than riding in Sweden or Poland or managing to reach the level to ride in those leagues.

Good to see the four Wolverhampton riders easily getting through and carrying on their good form and all four are riding in at least one other country this season.

Without the ef Lambert would of qualified easily? very unlucky his time will come.

  8. Two riders who in my opinion should have been World Champion, and not just once either...Gote Nordin and Soren Sjosten.

Sverre Harrfeldt made World no. 2 but was good enough to go one better I feel. Had the World Final been held at Custom House I'm sure Sverre would have won it.

Sjosten certainly was good anough to be World Champion even thought he had a chance in 74 to win it.Sigalos,Adams,Nordin, are others that spring to mind that were good anough to be WC.

  9. I have to say Lakeside really look like they will have a massive say this year wherever they finish. At home they are nearly unbeatable, most teams doing well to keep it to damage Limation and the scores close. To ride the Robins close with A J only scoring 5 says alot Kelvin helping has to be a massive plus done it all a brilliant speedway/Longtrack career.

Also Kelvin must be great to be able to ask for advice and is very astute on the mechanical side as well.

  10. Imagine actually typing that.

I agree with him when do you see Auty ride? down south that's it what about other tracks Scunny have you seen him there.?

Ellis may have scored a couple I reckon. You have the likes of holder only managing 3 in the odd meeting, so any points an edr scores as hl are really a bonus.

Tell me where his 2 would of come from for me it would of been a tough ask that Wolves sides 1/5 is pretty decent.

  11. On tonights performance Auty isnt good enough for EL. You moan for me making a point out of a part of your post! I suppose you never do that! By the way we were also well short of your estimate of 11-13 points from Auty and Wright although in fairness certainly not Wrights fault.

As for Auty being a PL number one he must be the worst number one in the league and i would back Ellis to beat him anywhere

Over twenty races i would back Auty over Ellis all day long on different tracks. So you are telling me Auty on it would not beat Ellis at Scunthorpe? Also Auty has a EL average that suggests he is a EL rider let's not go overboard on Ellis /Newman inflated figures also Newman has usually had lower PL figures then Auty year on year.

  12. Great news for The Roobins. With the new stadium around the corner, and the team turning the corner, can only see great times ahead for Swindon speedway club. With a good weather forecast for tomorrow hopefully be a decent crowd up on The Hill, and not just the usual 1000 or so diehards. Needs a local guy to inject some interest into the club, with better promotion, to attract fans from the massive catchment area within 40 miles of Swindon. From my cabbie-days I recall junction 15 Swindon East and junction 16 Swindon West being about 8 miles from the stadium. Obviously junc.15 to stadium a lot quicker, but fans can avoid the roadworks on the 419 by using junc.16 then heading east down the M4 to Berkshire. Also cutting through Highworth to Faringdon for fans living in Oxfordshire, avoiding the A420, as the sliproad will be closed tomorrow evening by the old Madison Hotel/ St.Margarets Retail Park.

I am not convinced mate ,will promoting and getting the word around make that much difference? For me the people between 16/22 are the most important age bracket so hard to attract them speedway for me is like Bovril either you like it or you don't.☹️

  13. Looked at the race programme and looking at the heats Auty has a real tough ask tonight.Ellis even if fit and in decent form would of done well to score any tonight some real tough races. The Wolves top five is very good indeed, and with Howarth as well can see them getting 38/40 pts if not more tonight.
