Havelock made the exact same mistake at Berwick giving an unwarranted ride to James Wright, when he had done nothing but Hume had scored well. He repeated the same error ladt night when it was obvious Cook was struggling and Hume was scoring. Thought he would have learned.

Steve i also felt he made a mistake in the away Leicester encounter he kept Bowtell in an easier winnable heat 8.In that meeting he also gave Wright five starts to be fair he did score seven .He somehow got away with that night because Hume surprisingly went out in heat 14 and beat Douglas.

My memory is a bit  hazy but I can recall catching the tube to see the Inter Continental Final there in 1983 (my one and only visit).  I went to Cradley in 1984 when Wimbledon ended their long home league winning streak.

A trip to Park Road, Barrow during their truncated 1985 season is the one I'll always remember.

I remember that meeting in 1983 tiger remember Michael Lee making a terrible mistake and letting Kenny Carter through.

Like most tracks Sid there were both good and poor meetings. Gordon really blossomed as a rider at Wood Lane and became a more complete rider having been brought up on small tracks. No one could ride ride the outside devoid of any real banking better than Marek Cieslak but it was sad to see Dag Lovaas struggling with the track. He was one of very few riders who stuck with the JAP and perhaps it wasn't the best engine for the vast City Bowl? One memorable race was the emerging Kai Niemi who on the last lap passed both Terry Betts and Michael Lee (one on the outside the other the inside) to cross the line first. Another race Gordon outwitting the team riding Ole Olsen and Alan Molyneux! Great memories!

The race that stuck out for me was the Nielsen v Sigalos encounter in the British open. Dennis was top class and we have spoke about it on endless occasions 1981/ 86. Penhall, Sigalos, Shawn , Hans, Erik, Tommy, Michael, Kenny, Billy,  how it never quite happened.

Pleased to say I was a regular when the "Rebels" located to Wood Lane between 1976 and 1978. Continued to support the "Cheetahs" at Cowley during that period so experienced the best of both worlds! Great days!

Was the league racing better at White City than the international events Steve? I did not see alot of league racing there certainly did not see Kennett really push on in his career there .

It's a bit of a myth that Glasgow v Edinburgh is a money spinner.

Attendances at these matches ain't what's keeping the clubs alive. Glasgow could certainly survive without Edinburgh, in the same way Edinburgh always financially struggling even with Glasgow

God Daniel you are a pretty positive guy right.? or realistic.

The question was, are thing's looking more hopeful for the future??

For me, that's asking who will make it at the highest level, and be competitive for Britain on the international stage. I'm sorry, it's none of them except possibly Rowe imo.

We can see young Pole's, Swede's & Dane's plying their trade against the very best in the World, even in these tough times.

Our young Brit's are racing against rider's that can't cut it abroad.

    Be honest with yourself

Brennan, Flint and Palin i recon will be better than Rowe don’t know about the international scene that is a different ballgame. My meaning on the thread was meant to show those named have made some great  progress. Also on the other foot let us see some of those really talented foreign  lads come over here and get beat up as some surely would? .For me Daniel the question was are we bringing a few through the system Vatcher is maybe won’t be world class but will have Ok careers.

For me, it's the worst it's ever been for our youngsters. The standard of rider to race against isn't anywhere near where it needs to be. These guys currently have false hope, when it really matters on the international scene they'll be left way way behind.

Apart from Anders Rowe I really think the future looks absolutely awful

As much as i like Anders Rowe really followed him since his mini track days at Swindon a few on that list are on par and  could  be better longterm than him.For me those named are doing well to hold there own in a tough Championship league and it is tough. Not many of us believe that many will go on to race in Poland full time but the youngsters have made progress.

They are now with the announcement of the Polish U24 league and their call out to foreign riders to go and join them. Not so great for British Speedway though sadly. Which is a shame because generally, with the exception of Drew Kemp, who I've never seen have a good meeting, every "kid" I've seen has been competitive and on the pace.

Drew has had some decent meetings he has beat some good riders but his home form at Ipswich is pretty moderate.Away from home he has done really well he will be ok.

At the end of the day, whatever the politics of the sport, it is and always has been, 4 blokes going 'hell for leather' racing on a track.  It is still the same product it has always been. Perhaps if we stopped worrying about the politics, the rules, the riders etc and just went back to enjoying good racing in its purest form, we might get somewhere.   I am not a Promoter myself, but had a family member who was one for many years.  I saw what it did to him and what he went through, I wouldn't wish that on anybody. It is a thankless task.

Yes and most of us really appreciate that , the effort is often forgotten. Also with most decent promoters there show goes on by having loads of unsung heroes in the background doing there bit without much reward.Last night was unfortunate i have seen quite a few really wet meetings over the years go on  and they improve over the night .Sometimes though the track enables the riders only to  follow the leader with the riders often being filled in.Everyone in the sport needs to pull together  we don’t seem to have that at the moment a crying shame really.

    Are you a promoter?

All that's needed in that statement is "if you don't like it p**soff"

Forgetting that the fans also put their hard earned money into the sport week in week out yet are constantly taken for a ride not given value for money & are expected just to turn up and have their feelings ignored or are just told to like it or lump it. Thousands have just walked away because of that very mindset.

Bottom line is if the sport was ran professionally giving value for money entertainment the sport wouldn't be in the mess it is.

As for fans tearing it apart the vast majority just want to see some form of acknowledgement that what's on offer is no long fit for purpose and that real change is coming. That change maybe too late to save the sport in the UK but at least bloody try!!

I used to love my speedway never missed a home meeting. These days for many many reasons all connected with what's on offer for my spend and therefore in the control of the BSPA I attended once a year at best.

I am like you and endless others  have given up  on the sport, still love it  BUT there is a chance to salvage something we all know how good the sport can be.On this forum there are some great ideas bandied about, do they get considered who knows? every conference come Christmas we all hope and prey maybe there is a different approach.Never happens for me this year something has to happen and things need to be put in place now not just a two day jolly up in Tenerife with a few needless rules tinkered with.

  11. I have been keeping track on how the young Brits have been doing in all leagues and thing’s don’t look to bad.I wondered what other members thought generally..? The riders i have been following have all acquitted themselves well ( ie) Brennan, Flint, Palin, Hume, Bowtell, J.Thompson, D.Thompson,Bickley, Gilkes, Kemp, Rowe, Jenkins,.At the moment my top five  would be Brennan, Palin, Flint, Rowe, Hume, . GREAT that all of these young riders are holding there own in a tough Championship and six of those are also riding in the Premiership as well. Fingers crossed all of these lads can improve ( if they still have clubs to ride for?) any thought’s.?

If he does qualify that means he is in all the GPs next year. Would he sustain a very high standard in all the rounds, or would he be fighting to be clear of no15 spot.ie like Berntzon and KK this year.

It would be a brilliant experience for Adam if he got in the GPS and a big challenge machinery and set up wise. But he could take it as a learning curve try to enjoy it and he could surprise .It is great we have another Brit in the mix hope to see him again at Swindon in 2022? pigs might fly !!!! as Fraser said we are DOOMED.

I am confident Ipswich fans will see a different Jason Crump tonight, now back to something like race fitness, last weekend he did 3 meetings in 3 days, looked a lot different on the bike Tuesday night @ Plymouth. Enjoy tonight's speedway Ipswich & Wolves fans.

Crump had that 13 point score at home then went and had that horrible spill at Wolves. He probably came back to soon but the signs are good his race fitness is getting there and next year if he wants to continue will do even better.

i am pretty sure he will do well but #2 is a hard place to start from ht 1 inside gate if you get a good ride makes you feel better for other rides bad one you struggle and if the reserves are scoring better you usually loose your last ride

Good point mac and Middlo/ Havvy might have to be brutal and give Cook or Hume an extra ride if need be.But Poole should be able to bed him in most meeting’s certainly at home and give him his four rides .This league at number 2 on tracks you have never experienced is not a cakewalk a big ask time will tell.

Keleher got a bit naughty at Redcar on Sunday though. After a race, going along back straight, as he passed Jake Allen, he yanked the cut off from Allens bike.

    Redcar riders quickly surrounded him!

No idea what he must have been thinking, but seems both stupid and dangerous.

If Basso does end up at reserve do you think that could make you less potent in  that position certainly away from home Bob.?Or do you think Cook could step up  and score six plus from the number two berth. With Cook/ Hume they look like they can score at least 10 plus between them and that is the worse scenario.

Basso scored 13 from 6 rides last night for Felstead.

You have a great history with some terrific Danes over the years Skidder hopefully this kid could be one for the future.Makes sense in a way don’t know the full story about Zane but his age maybe told the club he was not going to be there for the long haul.I hope Zane progresses at Plymouth he certainly is dedicated and is making a good jist of thing’s after a real setback.

Danyon Hume officially a Sheffield rider now. So only to decide whether to stick with Batch or not, which I think they will?

Chuffed for him another Brit  getting a chance ,riding for two great clubs this should enable him to progress.

As easy as expected but thank god a couple of the opposition put up a fight. Blown out of the water in the first 5 heats this was all over as a contest. A good crowd turned up and we’re treated at first to an under watered track. This was rectified after heat 4. But the starts were not even with advantage to gate 2 all night. 8 heat wins. From this gate.

For Scunthorpe Nicol was an excellent guest. His first ever visit to Poole but scored a very good 11 from 6 rides. Palin the next highest with 7 from 6. Interesting that the best two scorers were guests.

For Poole King only dropped one point as did Schlein. All riders did well with the exception of Bowtell who won heat 1 but struggled thereafter. The bigger news was the return of Ben Cook who looked rusty in his first two rides but brilliant in his last two as he got dialled in. With Ben Basso joining the team in the number two berth from herein it looks very ominous for the other clubs in the league. For the first time in ages Pirates will be at full strength.

A tough meeting at Redcar on Friday before entertaining Newcastle next Wednesday. Bring it on!

Any guest who comes in and scores four points from that tough number two berth has done his job.If Basso can do the same this side will take alot of beating Scunthorpe put in a spirited performance with a weakened team .Palin showing again what a fine prospect he is fingers crossed longterm for him when i have seen him he looks to have a terrific style.

Pickering has been brilliant since he came in and his performance at kings Lynn was awesome. The effort that lad put in last night is the level I expect from all 7 riders as a given. If you get beat by the better team then fine but when you are carrying a heat leader every meeting then we won’t get a sniff of winning the play offs. In his previous race when he hit the kerb on the last corner showed his desire and aggression to get an extra point. This effort is well respected by the sheffield fans. Even some wolves fans applauded his heat 10 exploits. A big mention to the former Ipswich lads Hume and Nielsen really putting big efforts in home and away

How did young Flint go Charlie? gained a great point against Howarth also has Hume done anough to gain a spot. The tigers fans are renowned for loving  there in/ out racers over the years( ie) Billy Bales, Shawn, Kelly, Reg, Dougie, Sean the prawn, Ricky.  Simon, (  ect) and Danyon is certainly that. If Batch is replaced could maybe Holder or Tungate come in Holder would be a great shout.
