The Surrey Vaults, Stag and Hounds and the Kingsdown Wine Vaults shut down last year alone, while the future of The Fleece, Fiddlers and the Brunswick Club remain insecure for the same reasons.       These never happened i wrote that article because I have some hidden agenda

Kingsdown Wine Vaults back running as a music venue.

    This is Swindon Speedway:

    https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/08680346

If you look at the Filing History you can see two entries for "Notification of xxx as a person with significant control". These detail the major shareholders. One is Terry Russell and the other is Downers Management Limited.

MrMungo's link is for Downers Management Limited. If you click on People you can see the directors of that company who are Steve Parks, Mike Bowden and Per Axel Warensjo.

    Got it now, thanks.

Owners haven't changed as I understand. Downers Management(I think that's what they were called), the consortium that Mike Bowden, Per-Axel Warensjo and Steve Park are a part of, still own the club with Terry. It's just those with a day to day involvement that have changed around from what I can see, and this happened last season.

How does one check this information?

Joined with a flourish. What does that mean? I don’t recall any flourish. Maybe you can provide something to jog mine and others memories?

A little bit of research shows he joined in 2013 and resigned in December 2017. This is a closed company and directors come and go all the time.

Not sure of any relevance, except he was a director, however, as you seem to know about it and more knowledgeable Swindon fans didn’t, maybe you have your own thoughts or know something...

    edited for p*ss poor English.

Don't recall him joining with a flourish if I'm honest. Mention of him stepping down in Steve Park's programme notes from the opening meeting.

As partner of Mike Bowden he certainly did arrive with much publicity and ideas going forward, the evidence is extant on the internet.

WOW. Saying that Swindon fans should support their speedway and you say it's rubbish. :D BTW. I would look up again the meaning of spurious.

More crap from you. This plan has more chance of working than the others beforehand, so the best that Swindon fans can do is embrace it whilst keeping due diligence if there is any changes.

I now consider this app. doubly spurious

The answer is to welcome what is on offer, and support it when you get it, then nobody will see grounds to close it. Don't forget if Speedway was stopped, it's probable that the dogs wouldn't pay and they would lose the lucrative BAGS contracts for relayed afternoon racing.

More rubbish from the North East, this latest planning app. is self evidently spurious and has no chance of approval as well they know.

I agree. I've seen junior speedway, sidecars and even quads after the main meeting at Swindon. The fact is the majority of supporters leave before the support races even start.

This isn't the solution to speedway's problems.

30 odd years ago, when Bob Jones and Jim Gregory rode their Rudges with Steve Chilman on a Douglas and others rode in second half most people stayed.

RiP George you will never be forgotten at Swindon Speedway.

Whoever wrote the obituary for the Swindon Speedway website has forgotten that he rode in the 1957 Wembley final.

  10. ...remember a few years back walking around the recreation ground where New Cross Stadium used to be and looking at the demolition taking place at The Den (?) Millwall Football Ground.

....and me, c1990, the entrance, including the workshop and terracing were still intact, I've still got my souvenir bricks.

  11. Didn't Barry Thomas' father help set up Iwade?Been fairly successful over the years and now one of the younger members of my family is riding quite regularly there having started at a beginners course at IoW.Just got his first bike last week and after 6 sessions looks fairly good from the videos i have seen.Doesn't seem to have any fear of the bends!!!

His brother Ivor (RIP) was the driving force, along with Barry at Iwade.

Yes Lew Coffin...didn't Bob Kilby start there?

Yes, as stated in Lee's book he rode at Weymouth four times only, then at the pre season trials at Swindon and once after the meeting at Oxford and then second half rides at Swindon. He had however practised in a field near Uffington a fair

    bit.
