Great to see Cookie beating ex and future World Champs at Sheffield. Would have been battered without him and Tunny. Janowski is a disappointment.

Well done marra! Beating the Holders and Woffy on their home track.

What sort of attendances are they getting? They said they were down to 400 last year! Hopefully a few Wolves, Cradley and Cov fans will bolster the crowds.

Well done Brum, shock result, a very entertaining tv opener. Good stuff from Swindon-born Tom Brennan, a good lad. Good luck to the Brummies, just need a decent number 1, good all-around scoring.. Lidsey and Bewley very poor.

Massive win for Oxfam, about 60-30, very poor Lynn team. Will make the trip from Swinedown when the weather improves. How are the crowds this year compared to the previous two seasons? With running the two senior teams now. Better weather will bring the punters in.

Early days, but Belle Vue, Sheffield, and Ipswich with their 2 big hitters looking good.

What sort of crowds do the Comets get now? used to love the Saturday nights at DP when I lived up there 2004/5, Stoney and Steady, crowds of 1200. Whereabouts is new track, must try and get up there this year. Good luck for the season, great to see them back.

I noticed that, just the ice speedway.. Landshut in Polish third tier. League fixtures for Poland, Sweden, Denmark, also Czech, Italy, France, Norway. As it said speedway is being overtaken by flat-track in most countries.
The Star is still a good magazine for what is now a minority sport, still clinging on, sales must be well below what they were 50 years ago, in speedway's heyday. We're fortunate to still see it on sale in major supermarkets.

Fair play to Brum, kept it close, Witches unlucky with Emil's two falls. Can see a top 2 battle between Sheff and Ippo for title so far.

Looks like the Ox were Cooked and roasted. Masters hasn't got dialled in yet. Shame the Poirates are not in Premier, not the same without them and Swindon in top league.

Excellent issue, full programme of European fixtures as well.

Good to see the Ox are one of the success stories of British Speedway. With the millions of peeps that live within an hour or so drive of the city should enable regular big crowds at Sandy Lane for Premier and Championship meetings. Quite a few Swindon fans I know are attending. Great for the sport.

Sheffield seemed to struggle early on, particularly getting out of the gate and on a one line track with little chance for passing in the early heats they fell a long way behind very quickly. Woffinden found his feet for his second ride and was backed up superbly by Edwards, and the outside line coming into play was used well by Holder, Woffinden and Picko in later heats. All the hard work was undone when Chris Holder fell and the 10 point deficit was back, but Sheffield proved too strong in the later heats to pull it back. Super heat ended up a massive anti-climax with the exclusion of Milik, but the 3 riders gave it their all and still gave us a good race to end the meeting. I don't think any fans could go home disappointed after a meeting like that whichever team they were supporting, and a great match for a neutral.
Observations I would make as a first time visitor.
Viewing is very poor with the home straight being too low and the track lights seemed to be the perfect height to dazzle from there, and the 'terracing' on the bend could do with being a little higher to give a better view over the air fence.
Track seemed very dry to me and I wondered if they had left it that way on the expectation of more rain during the day. Expected to see some water put down but it never happened.
No mention from anybody of the bonus lap we received in one of the heats ? For some reason the last lap flag didn't come out when it should have done, leading to many on the terraces questioning themselves as to how many laps had been completed. Chequered finally came down after 5 laps, with an announcement that the result was taken after 4. All well and good as nothing changed anyway, but wouldn't have been so great if someone had crashed on lap 5 and done themselves some damage.
Air fences were a welcome addition for safety reasons but does obstruct views unfortunately. Was the same at Swindon, terraces were too low, and only helmets visible from bends on grass banks.

and can I have Coventry.
Coventry, of course,
and we can't leave out Coventry.Sorry people. I know I/we are not alone in wanting our local club back. But if I can have one New Year wish, please let us have the Bees back. I'll think about the other 19 clubs I want to beat.
Coventry was a superb track, good bunch of fans. Some excellent meetings against Swindon.

I was hoping that somebody would come up with the idea of building a speedway track around the football pitch when Millwall relocated (like Wembley in the old days) but I suspect that it would have been impractical.
60 years ago, was my one and only season watching the Rangers and the great Squibbo. Geoff Penniket was my favourite rider. Still have all the programmes from 1963. We watched Wimbledon after that with occasional journies over the river to Wet Spam and Ackney, as Bjorn Knutson was my favourite then. Moved to Swindon 1967,went for 5 years then had 30 year break before going to Workington then back to Swindon. Was at the last meeting 2019.The occasional trip to Oxford and Cardiff now.

I think you need to give your head a wobble son, Barnet, Dagenham, Catford and Greenford are third tier clubs, have had little success compared to Swindon, Oxford, Poole, Belle Vue, Coventry...Luton, Basingstoke, Slough were far more successful.
-
If you could have a league of the top 20 teams ever who would you choose? Based on trophies won, years in top-flight, longevity? I will go, in no order, Belle Vue, Poole, Coventry, Oxford, Swindon, Wembley, Wimbledon, West Ham, New Cross, Hackney, Wolves, Cradley, Reading, Ipswich, Kings Lynn, Peterborough, Sheffield, Newcastle, Halifax, Eastbourne. Probably missed a couple.
