  1. It would be interesting to know if it was something that would go down well with the younger audience, although I doubt it.   They'd probably prefer an app on their phone which shows them who is winning in real time with graphics and stats.

As an oldtimer, I certainly wouldn't want race commentary.  I've seen it tried before (even when I was young) and I always found it annoying.

For something like Stock Cars, where you have no idea who is winning, commentary is necessary.  And other motorsports where you can't see the whole circuit.

But in speedway you can see the whole track and it's obvious who is winning.  Speedway is more like football.  You can see the whole arena and what's happening, so you wouldn't want John Motson down your earhole while trying to watch the match.

What on earth happened to Wallinger ?

Wallinger was always a bizarre signing.  He's not that good, and he has baggage.

But, to give him the R/R ride in heat 5, when he's already programmmed for heats 4 and 6,  was an amazing display of incompetent team management.   Three rides on the trot is a tough ask anywhere for a man not in his first flush of youth, but 3 on the trot around the IOW is impossible.

It's not surprising he didn't score all night after that.

    Quick predictions thread!

    1. Who can you see being the 4 play-off teams?   Kent, Belle Vue, Cradley, Leicester

    2. Who will be league winners?   Kent - But hope not.   (fiddling in a rider with previous top league experience on 3.50 is a joke.  He'll be at reserve literally taking candy from babies)

    3. Who will end the season with the highest average?   Danny Ayres.   Although Drew Kemp will be up there, a real talent who will be unbeatable at home.

    4. Who will increase their average the most?   Dan Gilkes. Looks the real deal and will finish on 8+

    5. Will the NL Fours & NL Pairs run?   I actually believe they will this year

Oh dear the dreaded VAT man and some may not be aware that he (The VAT man) is a separate entity to HMRC

    You're a bit confused there.

There used to be two separate entities.  The Inland Revenue (who were responsible for Direct Taxation - e.g. Income Tax, N.I., Corporation Tax, CGT etc etc) and Customs & Excise (who were responsible for Indirect Taxation -  e.g. VAT, Customs Duties  etc etc).

They were combined into one Government Department in 2005 -  "HM Revenue & Customs" (HMRC).

Also seem to have lost all local track reporters.

    Not good.

And it all seems mixed up lately.   You get stories  a club press release from a NL team on the same page as a Premiership team, rather than being properly organised in sections.    So (say) a Cradley fan finally finds the Cradley piece, and then wants to read about his NL rivals from (say) Stoke, it could be anywhere instead of being in the same NL section.

  6. Big mistake from the Speedway Star if they're not going to include full scorers of all matches.

Probably the main reason for buying it is for the back few pages to easily check the scores of various riders I follow, but don't get to see on a regular basis, and also to have the scores for future reference.

Might cancel the Star now and just print the relevant completed racecards from the BSPA site.

£2 more than any other team in the league and £5 more than Belle Vue

£10 to watch NDL racing on one of the top three tracks in the world, in the comfort of a modern stadium...

£15 to watch NDL racing on a slightly below average track, in a reasonably decent stadium...

Some fans are getting a better deal than others

. 3. Belle Vue v Swindon (GBL) September 29 Gresham replaces Gramstad in either heat 9,10 or 12. Golden helmet times are also required. Any help appreciated. Thanks for reading.

    Golden helmet times,   Ht1  Collins 73.6,  Ht2 Crump 72.8,  Ht3  Crump 73.0

Gresham didn't replace Gramstad in any heat.  Gresham was riding at No.1 and Swindon were never behind after heat 1, so couldn't use a T/S

Hmmm! Unless I've been suffering from dementia for the last 10 years I seem to recall that the Mercia Vikings were in fact the Coventry "Mercia Vikings" hence they were Coventry's junior/MDL team so I'm not sure where you get the ghost team idea from?

    Dementia it must be.

The Mercia Vikings were a ghost team run out of Sheffield by what I can only assume fits your description of a Glory Hunter playing fantasy speedway,

The NDL rocked along with nicely without IRR and TS. Shame that such artificial devices have now percolated down. They are rubbish 'rules' and open to abuse.

    Agreed.

Should have left the NDL rocking along without TS.

They slash the points limit ridiculously low because they want to bring in the young 2.00 kids....

...and then in the next breath they bring in TS, so one of those young kids is going to have to give up a ride to the No.1, whereas on the other side their youngsters are going to come up against the opposing No.1 who can now have a 6th ride.

All the club's claim to be making efforts. This isn't a new stipulation, we have to do this every year.

t the truth is some of the people who run the other "ghost teams" are simply using defunct names to play fantasy speedway with real riders. Sorry to be harsh but that is the brutal truth.

Glory hunters who won't put their money where their mouths are.

It can't have always been the case that teams using a historic name have to be actively looking for a new site in their area, because just a few years ago there was a team called "Mercia Vikings"  and there hasn't been any "Mercia" land or any Vikings since the days of King Cnut and Knig Harthacnut over a thousand years ago!

The Cnut running them must have been a 1,000 year old Glory hunter using a defunct name to play fantasy speedway who wouldn't put their Danegeld where their mouths are!
