    Rye House 2020

For a Saturday evening the quicker route would be Southern from Crystal Palace to New Cross Gate then Overground to Whitechapel, then Hammersmith and City to Liverpool Street and then Greater Anglia to Rye House. 1 hour 26 minutes according to TfL website journey planner. You would only be a little slower doing Overground from Crystal Palace to Whitechapel and it would save a change. When Rye was open I used to do Southfields to Liverpool Street on the District line to Edgware Road and then H&C or Circle to Liverpool Street with Greater Anglia to Rye House. Took around the same time and I was always home before 11.30pm, normally before 11pm. Given that we both should have a Freedom Pass and a Senior Railcard the extension from Boundrey Zone 6 cost under £5. By the way it is cheaper to book the extension ticket to Hartford East rather than Rye House, don't ask why just be happy you are using their system against them!
  2. No one apart from you has suggested that we are all disabled although sadly some are. Most of us are lucky enough to be fit and well but that does not deminish our wish to see those who are not as fortunate as ourselves looked after properly.

    Danny Ayres RIP

I have just started to think straight after being so shocked by the very sad news. Checked my programme from last seasons IOW Warriors v Mildenhall Fen Tigers match and sure enough there is the 18 point maximum by Danny who was the most exciting rider I had seen for a number of years. I just wish I had seen him more often and the fact I didn't makes me sad. Once again my thoughts are with his partner, children and all his family and friends. I just pray that they can remember the good times and leave everything else tucked away. RIP Danny.

    Notoriously Dirty Riders

If we are getting into promoters then I can fill the next three pages at least with the wrongs Mike Parker did to both Speedway and Stock Cars while also doing some good as well.

    Danny Ayres RIP

That is an amazing tribute from his partner who is showing how strong she is while probably feeling the weakest she has ever felt. This topic has shown how Speedway, both fans and promotions, are a wonderful family. Like any family we sometimes have our disagreements but at the end of the day the sport is a very large extended family and Danny is in all our thoughts. RIP Danny and thanks for the wonderful memories you gave us.
  6. For his last two years my father needed a wheelchair and I was happy to take him anywhere he wanted to go. His last visit to Wimbledon stadium was for the Best in Britain meeting that used to take place on New Years Day. We used the bus to the stadium and then had to get from Plough Lane to the entrance which was on the far side of the stadium, probably somewhere around 300 to 400 metres on rough tarmac. At that time I was a fit 55 year old and it was hard work getting the wheelchair that distance. I have walked from the two gates at Peterborough to the main stand and the ground would be far worse for pushing a wheelchair than the tarmac at Wimbledon. I suggest you try pushing a 13 stone person for 300 metres over such ground before you say that it would be possible in 5 minutes with a wheelchair. You would be stuck in the ruts for three times that long and unless very fit you would take nearer to half an hour. I don't want to have a go at any promoter as without them we have no racing to watch. In the same way I don't have a go about riders who don't try, I don't think any rider doesn't try, they may have a meeting where things are not working the way they want and that may continue for some meetings but I am sure they are trying as that is how they earn their money and it they were not trying then their family would be on their backs straight away, it does not need us to make things worse.

    Rye House 2020

During the years since the Stock Cars stopped at Rye House I was a regular having lost all my more local tracks (Wimbledon was my closest but I made regular visits to West Ham, Romford, Crayford, White City, Arena Essex and Hackney over the years). Rye was in fact my first track but I was in a pushchair at the time and don't remember anything about that first visit. The tube and train from south London to Rye House was a reasonable journey and most meetings in the last few years saw around 20 fans catching the train after the meeting with most going to Seven Sisters or all the way to Liverpool Street to then continue their journey by other trains or buses. Those 20 did not keep BMR in business but they certainly would have helped any promotion nearer to break even than BMR were.
  8. Just to rub it in change.org have now sent me an email suggesting I support other good causes. They can get lost, I have unsubscribed.
  9. Finally found the change.org email, it had gone straight to my recently deleted folder! I suspect that is AOL playing up but the requests for money are something else. Will you give? NO. Are you sure? YES. Please share. I don't have twitter, Facebook or any other social media site so NO. Are you sure? And so it goes on. Happy to support worthwhile causes but not through change.org ever again.

    KENT ROYALS 2020

Copied from yesterdays announcement on the BSPA website. KENT’S National League team in 2020 will be known as the Royals. The nickname was selected following a hugely successful competition involving eight local schools, resulting in over 60 suggestions with Newington Primary School providing the winning entry.Promoter Len Silver said: “The competition was devised by our Commercial Manager, Graham Darling and generously sponsored by Specsavers, and both are to be thanked for such a great effort.“It has resulted in massive local publicity for the club with a whole host of new youngsters now potential fans.“Now it's up to our Fans' Force to continue that publicity with emphasis on getting out the news of our new Wednesday race night and our opening date of April 8.”
  11. Signed but not got the email from them yet!

    Peterborough Panthers 2020

Uber would not be able to get closer than the new disabled parking area and might not be allowed that close. With the rough ground pushing a wheelchair will be hard work for a young, fit person and if the person doing the pushing is elderly then it would be impossible for them. Mobility scooters are very expensive and would they be able to be parked in a secure area? People are only miserable because they find that the new rules are going to make it difficult for them to enjoy their racing. Why is it safe for pedestrians to mix with cars in the main car park but not inside the speedway arena? If a Blue Badge holder does not obey the instructions of the staff or drives in a dangerous manner then I would back the promotion in saying that the person concerned would no longer be allowed to use the old parking area. It must be possible to manage the situation so the disabled are able to enjoy their speedway without the long walk that is currently proposed.

    Birmingham Brummies 2020

I walked away from replying to anything on this site a few days ago and made the bad mistake of trying to help, something that does not seem to be liked around here. Having been at my first meeting in 1955 at Rye House, a fan of Wimbledon then Arena Essex than Skegness and then back to Rye House before it closed. Last season I saw just two meetings on the Isle of Wight and following the last week on here I think I will join the former supporter who don't go and have lost interest because the past few days have convinced me I don't want to be involved in this site or Speedway. Although I may read your reply I will not answer it and I will remove this site from my computer.

I am well aware of what this site is. Birmingham Bulls are an American Football team and I tried to answer your question. I won't bother again.

    Edinburgh & Glasgow race night

The two speedways are definately are not as close as the two stock car tracks. But I suspect in both sports there would be a few people who would like to go to both tracks to follow their sport which is currently not possible. Being someone who enjoys both sports if I lived in that area I would want speedway on two weekday evenings and the stox on Saturday and Sunday to get four meetings in a week! Back in the day I used to do Crayford speedway on a Tuesday, Aldershot stox or Wimbledon speedway on a Thurday, Crayford stox on a Friday, Wimbledon, Coventry or Harringay Stox on a Saturday and a choice of stox at Ipswich, Brafield, Wisbech and others on a Sunday.

It must be a Scottish thing to run on the same night! The Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly stock car tracks to run on the same night as well.

    Peterborough Panthers 2020

I missed the Christmas Eve information and the BSPA site made it the main news story today. My fault for missing the original message but the new one has a different slant on the news. I must remember not to pass on news from the BSPA site in future without checking everywhere that they are not putting out old news.
