All Party Parliamentary Group For Speedway

http://www.parliament.uk/about/mps-and-lords/members/apg/ 'Parliamentary Groups, which are informal cross-party groups that have no official status within Parliament.' All Party Parliamentary Groups are simply 'special interest' talking and back slapping shops, unless there's loads of dosh involved!!!

A Sad Anniversary For London Speedway

Looking at Google maps it looks like they've re-aligned Waterden Rd, and the remains of the original road runs in front of the hockey centre. The road directly in front of the broadcast/press centre runs through the old pits as I remember from 1988 (last time I visited) and just to the left of the old scoreboard.

    Cyril Roger

He had 2 brothers, Bert and Bob. Bob rode for Swindon in the latter half of the 50's, he fractured his skull in 1958 and didn't make a track return until 1961 when he rode in 3 meetings and scored just 2 points, I guess he then retired. He died a couple of years ago.

    Mac Woolford

From what I understand, Mac had been badly hurt in a motorcycle accident and told by the doctors he would never ride a bike again, so he took up speedway!!! He used to go to Swindon regularly, but not sure if he still does.

    Andrew Silver

Silver often lost places during races at Swindon, simply because he would pull a full locker and virtually stop. On small tracks like Rye and Arena where he did his apprenticeship you have to turn a bike hard, but There is no need to do that at Blunsdon, something Andrew never learned. That apart, I do believe he didn't use his talents to the full, which is a shame, but there you go. I do recall him turning up to a meet. at Swindon at 7.30 pm and he was so layed back about it, he had to be lifted onto his bike, not sure why!
