    Facilities For 'unavailable' Riders

But they are coming over here to further their career, I think it's safe to assume that it would be very hard for their career to reach the level that it would whilst riding over here. So they should treat the opportunity with the respect it deserves as I don't see Poland or Sweden clamouring for all the young riders from other nations to ride over there and develop them. Why should the league bend over backwards to let them have team spots and then let them pick and choose their meetings so they can arrive late and go home early? Bottom line is that I don't care about visa's and the amount of time or costs that are involved in them getting over here to ride, that their choice as they want to develop as a Speedway rider.
  2. Just to confirm that Nick Simmons is not riding tomorrow due to an appointment with a consultant regarding his partners pregnacy that has been booked for many weeks and could not be rearranged. She is not in labour, well not yet anyway.
  3. The sad thing is that's probably true! Thanks.
  4. Coming over for this tomorrow, was just wondering if anyone from around the area could let me know if there are any road works on the M5 or on the way there from Newport? Having worked over that way for two years I know there normally is!
  5. Where would have been the point having Scott in and then getting to the final? Looking at the other teams and how GB compared to the in the semi and run off and you can see the other countries were a step above so we would have been looking at a demoralising last place. I would much rather watch the younger guys be in and developing.

    Swindon Speedway Diamond Jubilee

How come Swindon are allowed to run on this Sunday? Is Sunday their alternate race night/day? P.S. Agree, the line up is really good.

    The Poole Meeting In January

But it is, your an Elite League club with no connection to Newport apart from they both run Speedway. So your fans are going to stand up for what they think it right and so are the Newport fans. So times like this you need to step back and get a neutral point of view and by the looks of the the fans from other tracks agree with Newport fans side of things. Poole is a Speedway town without doubt, so the chance for you to have an out of season meeting is exciting. We were the same when Newport were attracting crowds of 2500 ish. I was fine with it being called something different, but don't like it being called the NYC. When you've got Steve Shovlar selectively quoting press releases to further his point and then saying that Newport fans have acted badly through this it is obviously going to get their back up and cause bad feeling. I don't know why Matt Ford didn't just call it the Blue Ribbon or whatever your individual meeting used to be called. That way it would distance itself from the New Year Classic and give the Poole fans something to relate too.

    The Poole Meeting In January

I love the way the Newport fans have been made out to be the bad guys in all of the threads regarding this meeting which was just short sightedness by the Poole fans in my opinion, but most of the people who have voiced their objections since this rename are all from fans from other tracks!
  9. You not going to thank the people with no vested interest that are against Poole having the meeting? Actually, don't bother answering that Steve. It's obvious that you are very close to the Poole promotion as was Vince with Newport's previous promotion. Your right, Matt Ford is a business man, and a damn good one by the way he has made Poole a success. And if he was that good as soon as Tim died he would have spotted a money making opportunity and quite a lucrative one if most of the crowd from the play off final turn up for it as well as some neutral fans. Just because Matt Ford has told you that he didn't apply for it 3 days after Tim's passing does not make it anymore believable than someone else saying that he did. Matt would have known that the issue would have been delicate so would NEVER admit it. Whilst you are sticking up for your club and I applaud you for that, it's not the best idea to say that Newport fans acted disgracefully and pulled the name of their club through the mud. I know all your doing is trying to turn the sympathy back to Poole, but most people will see through that also. Your arguement for Poole to stage the meeting should be strong enough without resorting to putting people down. Like I said before, people are obviously going to very defensive of an event that was risked and then made a year on year success being taken away from their track, especially when the person doing so has died. I agree with you that if Newport was being bulldozed as we speak then Poole should be staging the meeting without fuss. But the fact is that there are still parties interested in purchasing Newport Speedway and want to run next year and I know they wanted to run this meeting as it would have helped greatly with the rent over the winter. This should have been provisionally agreed at the end of September and then officially agreed at the AGM. I know you are saying that arranging the meeting takes time, but it's a winter meeting, it's not like the riders will be riding elsewhere, 6 weeks would have been more than enough.
  10. As I've said in this thread, my feelings would be the same regardless whos name was in that press release. Again, like I've said previously, it comes accross as a bit desperate everytime you bring the "Mind you any excuse to have a pop at Poole, eh?" card out. I've had nothing to do with Poole apart from watching a few meetings down there, so I have no reason whatsoever to dislike them, I've actually admired the club from afar at their ability to build quality teams. I don't like their actions in this situation, pure and simple. The fact that you selectively quoted the press release from the BSPA website speaks volumes for your character, and your way of moulding information available to further your own arguement.
  11. It's a press release about Poole Speedway, are you saying there was no input by your ethereal promotion? Of course not. Chances are they realised their mistake and the press release for speedwayworld.tv was tweeked. But thanks for the spelling lesson. I've heard that next weeks lesson is how to look beyond the end of their own nose and realise there is a world outside of Poole, will you or the Poole promotion be attending?
  12. Can you see why the line 'Poole will stage the New Year Classic for the first time on Sunday January 4' might aggravate people?
  13. You missed the first line which says: "Poole will stage the New Year Classic for the first time on Sunday January 4." Nothing like selective quoting
  14. I can state honestly that regardless of which club had made this statement that my reaction and feeling would be the same towards them You've got to realise that Newport have no connection with Poole because of the league structure. The only time 90% of Newport fans will even see Poole race is on Sky. So to try and make Poole out to be the victim seems a little bit of a desperate responce. I just think every part of the way this has been dealt with has been mishandled. At the end of the day a guy has died and the New Year Classic was something he created, made a success and ran for many years. As someone said, why didn't Matt Ford apply for the December licence? And the press release on the BSPA website was awful, the one on speedwayworld.tv was MUCH better. The BSPA one seemed like it was going to even be called the New Year Classic, which seems pretty bad. Also, what was the problem in waiting for the tenders to go in at the conference in November? It's not like the promoter would have to arrange things around other countries. They could ring 90% of the riders up the week before and if they are up for it, they will do it. I know that Tim spoke to Mark Loram one year to try and do it but no matter what he said to it he wasn't interested. Was it because of money? Nope, they didn't even get around to that, it was because Mark said it was way to cold for him!!! I understand what Steve is saying about people coming accross as bitter, but you've got to realise that it's not like Colin Horton owned us, took us under then shut up shop and dissapeared and now you have applied for the meeting. A person has dies and people are always going to take anything that was tied to him to heart. On the flipside, what if the new promoter was planning on this meeting as a cash injection to kickstart his team building and this put the deal in jeopardy?
  15. Been a strange old season. Even though some of my closest friends and family are heavily involved with Speedway I've found myself drifting away from the sport quite a bit and thought that it was because of Tim's death being that he was a good friend but I've realised it's not that. They say Speedway is a family sport and that is their tag line to get people along but the majority of the people within the sport couldn't be further that statement. It was hard enough for people connected to Newport Speedway to loose Tim and thus the Wasps for a year. Then on top of that the despicable actions from the Plymouth promotion to steal the team and rebrand them for their own gain. But JUST as fans start to see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel with a new owner/promotion, this comes out. The NYC was NEVER an event that moved around different tracks like the ELRC, it was a Newport event. Newport started it and have run it since we reopened in the new era. Yes, officially Newport do not have a promotion, but it is widely known that the wheels are in motion in a big way and I know the BSPA are aware of this, and the new regime have said that they WANT to run the meeting. So like someone else said why not allow them to use this event as a springboard and a new beginning of sorts, maybe change the name as a tribute to Tim and his legacy at Newport? Really poor form from the Poole promotion, regardless of the timing they applied for the meeting. I've never really understood the reasons behind the dislike of Poole from alot of members on this forum, but it's starting to become clear now.
