Very sad news. Like a few others on here, I remember Brian well from the old days and had some great discussions with him. It always seemed like the sport didn't take best advantage of having someone so talented involved with the sport. RIP Brian.

SGP venues for 2024
HenryW replied to 1Tsunami's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Now, a 16 lapper after qualifying with the top 8 sounds like something interesting and different, unlike what they have proposed -
Disagree...IMO, he's not what we need. I think it's what we'll get, but not what we need. Averages don't mean everything, it's about what is delivered in key races, and I just don't think he is the man to deliver even in a weaker league... Especially with Picko as number one, someone who provides entertaining races after s*** starts but often comes up short in the big races

5 looks horrific.

Two seasons is a good effort for their long term plans...usually gone after 1 year.

Who COULD Have Been a Major Force in World Speedway?
HenryW replied to chunky's topic in Years Gone By
I'm thinking that Zoltan Adorjan might fit into this category. If he had raced in the UK early in his career, from the early 80s, I think he would have made it much further than he did...although he did not bad as it was. -
Best I can think of is a first name starting with X Xavier Muratet

Warsaw GP Saturday 11th May 2024
HenryW replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Warsaw has 2 airports. Chopin is the main airport and much closer to the City but most Ryanair flights from the UK go to Warsaw Modlin. I think only Manchester had a Ryanair flight to Chopin this year. Edit - Wizzair usually have a few flights to Chopin from the UK, if you would consider them. -
SGP venues for 2024

Once again talking about a final round in Australia...Don't like that. They should start the season out there like they did with NZ and finish in Europe. 12 rounds has a really good risk of the final round being close to meaningless for the Championship. -
SGP wild cards 2024
HenryW replied to longmeadow's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Doyle qualified through the GP challenge, so there is no question about his involvement. Also coming from the GP Challenge is a 2nd Pole, Szymon Wozniak. -
I actually like it if it's a close race, but because it has to chase behind the last rider it can make the leaders too far away.

Edinburgh v Scunthorpe Champ Play-offs Saturday 23rd Sept 7pm
HenryW replied to eide67's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
That happened months ago. -
Apologies if someone has already made this comment, there are so many people getting upset that the pages have flown by... I love the arrogance of the BSPL as they seem to think the Championship is tougher than the Ekstraliga

But the article quoted says that 2 years is the MINIMUM. If it can be less due to excuses then it's not a minimum, surely? Or is this 2 year minimum new since Barker was caught?

Match thread has all the details. Cookies bike went over the fence and a photographer was hit and left in a bad way, though thankfully should make a full recovery even though he has pretty serious injuries.

Latvian GP Riga Saturday 12th August
HenryW replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Discovery+ App is showing qualifying available live from 8:55 to 10:15 and the meeting from 14:30 to 18:15. Also has SoN listed for the day before between 15:50 and 18:30. Presumably that is SoN2? Edit - False dawn beat me to it! -
Simon Stead and Oliver Allen.... Stand down?
HenryW replied to eric i's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
And "Allied" wanted one of theirs in the SWC so it was down to a choice between Brennan or Harris for the managers? -
Simon Stead and Oliver Allen.... Stand down?

For me the selection of Ellis made sense as he is a regular in the Polish league and does better than any of the other Brits there. Brennan over the likes of Wright maybe made less sense. -
World Cup - Wroclaw July 2023
HenryW replied to Monarchs2468's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Great entertainment with close scores and close racing tonight. I'm not a fan, but what a brilliant ride from Janowski under huge pressure in the last race. He's not the man I would have picked to take the pressure last race, but he delivered spectacularly. SWC is just so much better than the SoN...Please tell me that we don't have to wait 3 years to see this again. -
World Cup - Wroclaw July 2023
HenryW replied to Monarchs2468's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Would that be the same Worrall who is 35th in the league with a 6.00 average, whilst Ellis is 3rd with 10.00? -
Swedish league 2024 signings, news Etc
HenryW replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
Quite the coincidence that the two on the bikes were above the size limit, but below the legal tolerance level while the two spares were within the size limit. Doesn't look good for the testers, though. -
Does that not depend on whether you gave consent to be contacted for these reasons? They have your email address but I think GDPR laws say that they can only use this for the purpose it was provided, not any extra reasons unless you give explicit consent. Of course, if they are not even asking for that consent at registration then they are missing an opportunity, as you suggest.

Is the rule then targeted at European riders who have raced in Sweden, Denmark or Poland rather than Commonwealth riders? Although obviously more Aussies are starting out in Poland or Denmark these days as it's easier to race there than meet UK visa requirements.

HenryW replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
Don't know this guy's situation, but it's unlikely that he'd be able to get a work visa to race in the UK. They are pretty strict about who is allowed in these days.
