  1. Originally, not happy that I had to miss this due to a family commitment. Now I'm glad I spent a brilliant evening away from Herne blowing it for Todd Kurtz. Webster beats Herne, I give up! Hernes lack of performance has made my mind up not to bother Friday and probably for any future Hornets matches.

    Predictions 2010

Have to agree with you, they are a solid team which (bad luck aside) should be unbeatable at home and will win a fair few away as well. They all look quick and controlled and for a change we now have a few that can gate
  3. Apparently, there is one licence a month available to run a meeting in the close season - one allocated for the Brighton Bonanza in December. one to Newport for the NYC in January and the other to Telford in February. It's been common knowledge for a while that there is no Brighton this year, so if Poole were so keen to keep alive a meeting for the good of speedway and speedway fans why didn't they ask for the December licence? If they wanted to take advantage of the holiday period they could have held it on the last weekend of the year, the weekend before the NYC. Even if the NYC was held the following week neither meeting would have affected the other as the venues, fan base and even travelling fans are so far apart that the meetings wouldn't have impacted on each other. That way the South Coast would have gained an outdoor Winter meeting and the possibility of the NYC taking place at Newport would have been maintained. So it does appear that Poole want to ride on the back of work put in by others for there own benefit. Tim did it for the fans, this venture seems to be for another reason. When the Wasps ride again, we will no doubt have a fitting memorial for Tim and a meeting in his name - until then I and I'm sure others would not want his name or the title 'New Year Classic' associated with Poole's shallow money making venture.
  4. Given the sometimes laughable attempts by EL promotions to prepare raceable tracks for the televised meetings held during the summer months, whats the chance of them being able to do it for a meeting in January? If it chucks it down and the meeting flops, then I probably wont be the only one with a wry smile on my face. Hopefully for 2010 it will be back at it's rightful home.

    Hans Andersen

Never thought I'd agree with a Somerset fan on anything , but you are spot on. The commentators were saying how Voyens was doctored for the Danes last Saturday and yet no-one was bothered, the Poles prepare their track how they like it and they are criminals. Stekkers, Andersen and Pedersen made themselves look foolish with there whinging. Some of the Polish passing was awesome, together with Cardiff the best meeting I have seen in a long while.
  6. We will be there as well, those guys have given us a lot of enjoyment over the years and I for one will take great pleasure in applauding each of them for what they have given to Newport Speedway. I don't expect overly competative racing, just a fun afternoon with plenty of laughs and riders and fans having a really good time. I just think it would be really sad if it was all played out to a virtually empty stadium.
  7. Anyone else fear that crowdwise this meeting could turn into a bit of a damp squib. A meeting solely based around a clubs past and present riders is never likely to attract much interest away from home, especially as most of the past team members do not ride competatively anymore. Therefore the majority of the crowdbase is likely to be home supporters. Crowds in recent years have dropped dramatically and given the current situation are likely to drop further. We start the season with a light-weight open competition (I've seen better lineups at some training schools) and then launch into PT and league campaigns that are likely to result in a succession of home loses and away hammerings. Added to that we now have the news that the one rider who would have put bums on seats this year is not returning. What probably could have been an truely memorable celebration of 10 years of Newport Speedway is likely to be played out in front of empty terraces

Never mind start line girls, I see they are advertising the Fuel Girls as meeting entertainment. I have seen one of their more muted performances and family entertainment they aint.
  9. To be honest I wasn't going to bother with this meeting, but Diesel didn't want to get his pimp mobile dirty so I had to drive him. The positives; The track was pretty good considering the weather Newport has had to contend with over the last few weeks. The riders gave it a go and there was some competitive racing. Phyllis looked like he will score loads at PL level, God how many years have I waited for him to sign, at last we have got him! Nicky and Tim both looked good and should provide a solid couple of riders for the Mavs in 2007. The negatives; The presentation was woeful, I'll put up with delays between heats so long as we get some info - Sunday we got none. Jason Harold may be ok on his breakfast show with a script in front of him but he is crap at commenting on live meeting. It pains me to say it, but Sam really does look a shadow of the rider he was, hopefully he will turn it around. Off at a bit of a tangent, has anybody noticed how keyboards and large amounts of special brew have the same effect on some people. Firstly it makes them add words into what started out as a reasonable comment that turns it into a rant. It makes them say things that they wouldn't normally be brave enough to and it seems that both are capable of making the quietest mouse believe he is a lion. Vince, if you really feel that strongly you don't have to look far to confront the people making the comments you object to. Nearly all of them are in the crowd every Sunday, why not leave the pits and come and speak to us?

    Cardiff!

Looking forward to meeting a few more forum members on Saturday. Diesel will probably want to find a pub showing the England game, so any help convincing him to stay at the POW will be greatly appreciated.

    Trick At The Millenium Stadium

If Trick has another disaster I really can see him pulling out of the series, I just can't see him finishing the series knowing he can only finish mid table at best. That would be a sad end to a brilliant career and I for one don't want to be present to see that happen. A really good day out will be ruined if the ginger whinger wins, so I'll be cheering Trick, Pedersen, Hancock etc. etc. I wonder if once again Crumps progression will depend on Adams and once again Leigh the lapdog throws an EF in favour of his buddy!

    Academy League Ko Cup Final

According to the SW Argus, Tim Stone, Newport Promoter, said:''The Academy organisers have belatedly decided that they would prefer to run alongside a league or Conference Match.'' So reading between the lines it looks like they weren't happy running alongside the STRA.

    Well Done Trick

Trick didn't look at the races tonight, so a third was a pretty good result. Referee was terrible, as was Rico after his first ride. Well done to the track staff to produce the quality of racing given the state of the track 30 mins before the start, a few tracks over here could learn a thing or to! Plenty of passing on a track with a reputation for very little. Couldn't decide whether the ginger whinger was doing a Superman or John Travolta impression when he crossed the line.

There is always one! As far as I'm aware, the only international currently being contested by England is the second test against Australia, perhaps your comments should be in General Discussions as this thread is about Team GB in the SWC
