    Kings Lynn V Buxton

Tapes up at 7.45pm on the dot and meeting closed at 9.00pm........now that's the way to run a speedway meeting in my opinion. Considering it was a bottom of the league clash on what was a fairly cold night, there was some really entertaining racing, with Heat 14 being the best race of the meeting. Credit to Buxton for making a real fight of it, especially as Adam McKinna suffered a breakdown (vehicle, not him) en-route, and had to be replaced by local junior Adam Portwood, who quite understandfailedably failed to score. What a pity there weren't more people in attendance to watch proceedings. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank EVERYBODY involved at King's Lynn in keeping the National League team running again in 2012, which has produced as much entertainment if not more than the Elite League side. Thanks also to all the other clubs that have kept operating in this league, which is vital to British youngsters if they are to have any chance of progressing up the ladder to stardom.

  3. Like you Ken, I had the wasted journey, in my case from Norfolk, which this season has hit the pocket extremely hard with the ever rising fuel costs. I came through some torrential rain enroute, and should have turned back, but you always hope it's not going to move up the road with you. Very disappointing, especially as I can't get back next week, but Uncle Len says I can use the rain-off tickets for the 'Ace of Herts' meeting, not that I'm really interested in that particular fixture, but guess I'll be there. Now hoping Mildenhall goes ahead this afternoon.

    King's Lynn V Rye House

It's the biggest crowd I ever recall for a National League match at the Norfolk Arena.
  5. Is there anybody that would kindly be prepared to either post the heat details from this meeting that was staged on Saturday 15th September, or alternatively confirm how many rides each rider took from both sides. Thanks in anticipation Mike

    Kl V Iow

In answer to Islander15, Adam Ellis was born in Marmande, France on the 21st March 1996. Only one way to describe tonights meeeting.....AWESOME!! Nothing more one can say really.
  7. Thanks to both Vog and Sarah for posting what you have, and whilst it helps, it doesn't fully satisfy my wish. There must be someone that knows exactly how many rides each rider took, otherwise Sarah wouldn't have been able give the excellent report that she has. HELP PLEASE!!!

    Young Stars

To the best of my knowledge, the remaining King's Lynn 'Young Stars' fixtures looks like this............if it doesn't rain.....maybe!! Wednesday 19th September at 7.30pm: King's Lynn v Isle of Wight (NL) Wednesday 3rd October at 7.30pm: King's Lynn v Stoke (NL) Sunday 7th October at 3.00pm: Buxton v King's Lynn (NL) Wednesday 10th October at 7.30pm: King's Lynn v Rye House (NL) + King's Lynn v Rye House (AJL) Wednesday 17th October at 7.30pm: King's Lynn v Buxton (NL). So whilst the senior team will have been put to bed for another year, there is still plenty of excitement and entertainment to come at the Norfolk Arena before we revert to watching DVD's in front of the fire during those cold and dark evenings. For the purist the Norfolk Arena will also be hosting Southern Track Riders meetings on Sunday 7th October (Midday) and Saturday 20th October (5.00pm), whilst the Dragons Speedway Club will be running meetings on Sunday 28th October (11.00am) and Saturday 10th November (4.00pm). Although raced on a purely amateur basis, these meetings are completely FREE OF CHARGE to enter, with a programme (not just a racesheet) on offer for just £1. On most occasions, you'll find riders from the National League competing, such as the likes of Lewis Kerr, Tom Stokes and so on, and with around 40-plus races each meeting, how can you afford to not attend some of them.
  9. DOH, how on earth could I have missed that one, like you I often speak to George, and was doing so only last Sunday. Could it be that I've developed the Bryn disease.....AGE!!

    Young Stars

Hello Martin, Nice to hear from you mate. The 'Stars' run their final meeting this coming Monday against Coventry. Wednesday 26th September will be the Ashley Jones Memorial meeting, which I'm led to understand will primarily be a Premier League line-up, which should be well worth supporting. As for me going to Buxton on the 3rd October, we'll I'd have little else to do but be strayed by tarts, as the Young Stars are at home to Stoke that evening. Haha, Malcolm Vasey or 'Bakewell Tarts' is a bit of a no brainer isn't it, Derbyshire would have to win the day on that one, unless the so called tarts also have grey ponytails. We are at Buxton on the 7th October, and sadly for the first time ever, as far as I can remember, I've got to miss a Boston/King's Lynn meeting at one of my favourite venues. I did make the journey for the original staging date, which as you know was rained-off, even though a couple of miles down the road in Buxton Park, me and the guvnor had a picnic, and a ride on a silly little train (The Butterscotch Ice Cream from the pavillion was lovely though). We're off to Tenerife straight after the Young Stars meeting this Wednesday, well down to Gatwick anyway, and don't get back until 4.00am on the day of the Buxton meeting. So alas, it'll be a case of driving back to Heacham if I can keep awake, stop off and get a few groceries (my Bakewell Tarts will have gone off by then), and at lunchtime I'll pop along to the Southern Track Riders meeting. Not my preferred choice, but better than nothing after spending a fortnight and a few days without it....speedway that is Hope you, Chris and the family are well. Take Care Mike
  11. Has there been any news on the condition of Tom Brennan following his trip to hospital on Sunday? Do hope all is okay.
  12. Oh deer, Eye'm afrayed eye did spott the 'Looking' errer, but ittt waz two laight tow doo anyfing abowt itt. Nite, Nite xx
  13. FANTASTIC JOURNEY (KIng's Lynn to Iwade in under 2.5 hours), FANTASTIC WEATHER and a FANTASTIC SHOW PUT ON BY THE KIDS OF TOMORROW. FREE PARKING, FREE SEATING IN EITHER OF THE HOME STRAIGHT GRANDSTANDS THIRTEEN RAFFLE PRIZES, A FREE SHOW OF SPEEDWAY BIKES AND RACEJACKETS FROM DAYS GONE-BY and all for jusy £5 plus £1 a full coloured programme. Where else can you get such value for money (the meeting consisted of 34 races). On top of all that, there was a lovely vegetable garden that contained runner beans and potatoes around the referee's box. Can you believe a referee (Christina Turnbull) who showed commonsense by allowing riders back into re-runs that had fallen. An announcer that looked completely disorientated because he'd had to get out of bed the wrong side of lunch time. A Peterborough fan (SM) wandering around looking for any souvenirs (IS THAT SPELT CORRECTLY??) he could acquire, and lokking particularly pleased with a framed photo. Yep, all that for a fiver!! Suppose I'd better give you the results. 500cc CHAMPIONSHIP Adam Ellis (3-3-3-EF) = 9 Danno Verge (3-3-3-2) = 11 Jack Jones (0-1-0-0) = 1 Ben Harrison (1-EF-0-2) = 3 Connor Mountain (2-2-2-1) = 7 Josh Bailey (2-2-1-1) = 6 Nathan Greaves (2-3-EF-2) = 7 Daniel Phillips (1-1-3-3) = 8 FINAL: Nathan Greaves, Adam Ellis, Daniel Phillips, Danno Verge 250cc BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP Nathan Greaves (3-3-3-3) = 12 Reece Downes (2-3-3-3) = 11 Saul Bulley (0-1-0-2) = 3 Mitchell Beckett (0-2-2-2) = 6 Kelsey Dugard (1-F-2-3) = 6 Lewis Whitmore (1-2-1-2) = 6 FINAL: Nathan Greaves, Reece Downes, Kelsey Dugard, Mitchell Beckett 125cc SUPPORT RACES Henry Atkins (3-D-2-2) = 7 Saul Bulley (EF) = 0 Jamie Halder (1-1-2-2) = 6 Daniel Gilkes (2-3-3-3) = 11 Chad Wirtzfeld (1-2-1-1) = 5 Luke Woodhull (2-0-F-3) = 5 Tom Brennan (3-FD) = 3 Best wishes to Tom who was taken to hospital, hope your injuries are not serious. Fantastic Sittingbourne (Iwade), brilliant day out.
  14. As Main Man said, a young Aussie who was born on the 9th September 1993. I see there is a Kieran Douglas around too, but don't don't if he's related to Ryan or not.
  15. The meeting has been given some publicity under its correct title of 'British Youth Championship'. Calling it the Sittingbourne Youth Championship is nowhere near to being what it is, so no wonder you can't find anything about it. I wonder if the local press has given it any publicity, because it's a tournament worthy of any speedway enthusiasts interest and support, these lads are our future. The weather forecast looks to be on our side, so I hope you enjoy your visit to the Iwade(Sittingbourne) venue Jonny the spud, it'll be a good un.

    Redcar V Berwick 6th Sept

Does anybody have the scorers from the Northern Junior League Riders' Championship that followed the meeting against Berwick please?
  17. To answer my own question about father/son partnerships, I've just discovered that in August 1964, Wilf Jay aged 51 rode for Sheffield against Long Eaton with sons Alan and Derek both in the Tigers septet, now that must be a record!!!
  18. KING'S LYNN v IPSWICH (AJL) - 5th September 2012 Following an evening of disappointment at the Norfolk Arena as all and sundry watched the clubs chances of reaching the play-off's at senior level more or less evaporate, the 'Lightening' were on hand to bring some smiles back on their faces. Following the presentation of the league championship trophy to the Norfolk club, they set about about trying to defend their unbeaten run of meetings by making it eight our of eight against local rivals Ipswich. The Suffolk outfit provided the sternest test of the campaign, and played a huge part in what was a highly entertaining meeting, enjoyed by a sizeable crowd that had stayed on. But the champions were in no mood to be beaten by their local rivals, and fully deserved their 22-14 victory. No end of people asked me why there was not a race sheet available for this meeting, and in fact at previous AJL meetings, but I'm afraid you are asking the wrong person, and I take offence at the one gentleman (and you know who you are) who verbally abused me over the matter. Please direct your questions to the promotion, I'm just a face in the crowd like everyone else. Finally, somebody said to me that they thought having father and son (Andy & Connor Mountain) take to the track together, was a first in British Speedway. It wasn't, because Reg & Eddie Reeves did so many years ago, but can anybody remember if there were others? I know it's happened with the Southern Track Riders. KING'S LYNN 22 1. Andy Mountain (3-FD-3) = 9 2. Connor Mountain (FD-1-N) = 1 3. Tom Stokes (3-3-3) = 9 4. Lewis Rose (2*-3-1) = 6+1 (Team manager: - Wayne Dunworth) IPSWICH 14 1. Joe Graver (2-2-2) = 6 2. Josh Bailey (1*-2-1*) = 4+2 3. Adam Portwood (1-1*-2) = 4+1 4. Sean Phillips (0-0-0) = 0 (Team manager: - Kevin Jolly) 1. Mountain (A), Graver, Bailey, Mountain © - FD 3-3, 3-3 Race Awarded 2. Stokes, Rose, Portwood, Phillips 5-1, 8-4 64.29 3. Rose, Bailey, Portwood, Mountain (A) - FD 3-3, 11-7 64.93 4. Stokes, Graver, Mountain ©, Phillips 4-2, 15-9 63.83 5. Mountain (A), Portwood, Bailey, Mountain © - NS 3-3, 18-12 64.63 6. Stokes, Graver, Rose, Phillips 4-2, 22-14 64.41 That just leaves one home fixture remaining against Rye House, which I presume will probably take place on the 10th October following the National League match between the two clubs. However, it's understood that there might be a challenge match next Wednesday with visitors possibly being Milton Keynes.
  19. Think you're spot on there Phil, King's Lynn will put on a better show than what many may think, and I'd go along with about a 10-point victory to the Fen Tigers. Incidentally, does anybody know if the A1101 is now open from Littleport through to Mildenhall, following the works at the Shippea Railway Crossing?
  20. Has anybody tried to buy tickets over the phone yet, and been successful. I've dialled the 0844 number and listetened to music for 20-minutes before giving up. The website only seems to have limited seats available, with nothing for sale on the 1st/2nd bend middle tier. Any idea anyone please? I looked at the Premier Inn & Travelodge sites at 8.30pm last night, and apart from one, everything seems to be full already!!! Once again, has anyone else had the same problem?
  21. Following last years terrific staging of this event, I must say that I'm looking forward to this more than any other speedway meeting I've seen in 2012. Lets hope the public gives it the support it deserves, and that we are blessed with a nice sunny day, cos the wind and rain doesn't half blow across the Thames there.
  22. There was no AJL meeting at King's Lynn tonight.
  23. 2/5 v Mildenhall (H) 7+1 30/5 v Lakeside (H) 9 31/5 v Peterborough (A) 6 2/6 v Rye House (A) 9 4/7 v Peterborough (H) 11+1 19/8 v Mildenhall (A) 9 Andy Mountain 6 18 51 2 53 11.78 As far as I'm aware, we've still got to ride at Ipswich (Home & Away) plus a home meeting against Rye House, and I think one of those is happening after the Stars v Belle Vue meeting tonight.
  24. Although I've got my tickets, and have had for a couple of months now, I must confess that generally speaking I find 'Ticketmaster' a nightmare to deal with. I've had countless problems over a period of time when buying concert tickets. When you could just phone the venue concerned, order and pay for your tickets through their box office by either card or cheque, life was so simple and reliable. But now you have to do these things through 'Ticketmaster' and get ripped off with a substantial booking fee, life just hasn't been the same.
