  1. Steve, you never answered my earlier point, I asked that if Poole had come up with the idea of a January meeting that was a gamble and a success would you still be so keen to have it shared around ? Somehow I dont think your views would be the same would they ?
  2. So for the sake of argument Steve, say Poole took a gamble on a mid-winter meeting and it was a sucess, and their idea. I take it you'd be quite happy to loose it would you ?

    First Races Of The Decades.

As a new decade approaches, the winner of heat one of The new year classic will be the first race winner of the ' Tens' . Can anyone remember which rider won the first race of the 70's ?

    Two Maximums In One Night

Brian Woodward did it in one night in 1977 at Somerton Park, not sure who the opponents were though.
  7. Not for the first time the team that beats the most opponents has lost a major championship, Reading lost the Ellite Leauge a couple of years back, and now the Aussies are robbed of the World cup. The sport I love is destroying itself by giving artifical scores and unworthy winners.

    Swc - The Joker

Racing not to win is in effect cheating. If the jokers were taken out of the system, then these daft situations would not arise in the first place.

    The Joker Rule Must Go

Sorry - mods, could you please merge this with the other thread started on the same topic.
  10. Is there a rider who has riden against 3 Generations of Street - Crump ? I mean Neil Street, Phil Crump and Jason Crump. The only one I can think of is Les Collins, any one else got any ideas.

    Silver Sash Match Race

Yes Ted held it, I'm not sure for how long mind. He beat Jim Gooch at Newport in 1968. Jim beat Hasse Holomqvist by default the week before in a match V Wolves. It should also be remembered that Ted caused quite an upset by beating Briggo around Blunsdon fair and square . He was no mug.

    Cyril Francis

Jacks bar was the County Supporters Club Bar behind the main stand on the Somerton Road side of the ground. Jon is still with us although he used to be a regular over the Hayley Stadium and was team manager of the Mavericks in 98 I dont think he vists as as much now.

    Cyril Francis

Shortly before Somerton Park was demolished Cyril, Jon Erskine and Toby Harryson were guests at an evening Jacks Bar for those who remember the old place. They told stories, some of them hillarious - what charcters they were, sadly you don't seem to get them anymore.

    Cyril Francis

If memory serves me right I think Cyril was very instrumental in getting Speedway into Newport. I belive he informed the Milke Parker \ Bill Briggett partnership about the possibilty of racing at Somerton Park using the old greyhound track which used to circulate round the football pitch.

    The Poole Meeting In January

I doubt anyone left the stadium disapointed with racing like that. Now to start a campaign to keep the NYC at Poole in 2010! You must be a wind up merchant. I dare say Mr Ford made his nice little earner, now it should go back to the club who took the inital risk, and whos idea it was.
  18. Whilst the NYC was Tim Stone's baby, it has little to nothing to do with the new Newport promotion Personally I believe it should be shared around, with a different club running the event every year. So Let's see the Newport Club at that time take a huge gamble, not knowing if the meeting will be supported, what the weather will be like, will riders want to race etc. Though their hard word and that of the late Tim Stone it is a a success and gets established as a regular fixture, so you think other clubs should then benefit from the Gamble and hard graft of the Newport Club ? I don't think so Steve. There is a concesus on this board ( well apart from a few cyclopic dorset folk ) that the NYC or the January licence should stay at Newport and be for the Tim Stone Memorial Trophy. After all he was only one with the guts to stage a meeting that time of year.
  19. As long as the Clubs begin with a 'P' and end with an 'E' eh Steve.
  20. We dont need to, the Poole promotion are quite capable of doing that themselves
  21. What I find realy distatseful about this is that upon hearing of Tims passing the first thing that crossed his mind was not the sad loss of a fellow promoter, but the availabilty of the January Licence.
  22. Anyway theres a rumour going round that Matt Ford is taking two partners on to the Poole Board - Burke & Hare.
  23. Sorry to say but all this moaning is making Newport fans look like a very sad and bitter bunch. I would say we have reason to be. Some of the defence of their promotion make Poole fans seem a bit one eyed to say the least. Lets just all hope for bad weather come the staging .
  24. No other team would stoop so low as to pick a dead mans pocket.
  25. Get one thing straight Newport are NOT a defunct club, I resent your asumptions they are. They are tempoarlily inactive due to tragic circumstances, they will start up again. It was to be in January , but Poole jumped in before Tim was even buried, Matt Ford quite frankly gives not only Speedway, but the town of Poole a bad name.
