  1. Steve only you could think what has happened is in the least bit ethical.
  2. Poole are grave robbers - offical. I hope Matt Ford can sleep at night. And they wonder why everyone hates them. They have taken the sport to an all time low.
  3. Some people seem to have no concept of right or wrong. And think stealing a dead mans idea is acceptable.
  4. Theres only promoter would stoop so low. That stinks, why steal another clubs meeting ?
  5. Who ever that promoter is, quite frankly should be ashamed. The NYC was Tim's brianchild and must stayat Newport. This ' Promoter ' should be named and shamed .

    World Team Cup

No - they should abolish it altogether
  7. Problem - Find a proper track in the country that can attract approx 45,000 people . Do you seriously want to go back to Coventry and 8,000 !

    Memories Of Somerton Park

The shape of the Somerton Park Track was not universally popular, but there was nothing that could be done about it. It had to be built arond the football pitch and the within the confines of the existing stadium. Although it should be mentioned there were few complaints when the Wasps were weak, and visiting teams often won, when the team was strengthend and used to score 50+ every home match thats when the moans started

    John Erskine

Thanks very much. Jon was a very underated rider, and in that particular wasps era was one of the few members of the team who could score consistantly away from Somerton Park
  10. The Newport track has arguably the best drainage in the country. However that same drainage which saved the meeting today, is the same that causes the dust problems in the summer, a bit of a double edged sword.

    The Best Riders...

Bob kilby had the ability to make a World Final, and I would say Neil Street as well.

    Inter-league Ko Cup

But would it do them any good to be whitewashed at home ?

    Inter-league Ko Cup

    Speedway In South Africa

Deon Prinsloo, is he the son of the former Exeter rider Peter ?

    Tactical Rider Changes.

Why not only allow one old style 'tac sub per ' team per match once they fall ten points down ? Seems simpler . I've always thought that 6 points is to close, we all know riders have thrown races to prevent the trailing team going 6 down. 10 seems about right.

    2 Leagues Next Year

I don't think Stoke, Oxford, Birmingham, Sheffield, are keen on Elite Leauge, and there doubts about Reading. As for Pl, I dont think Sittingbourne and Buxton could afford it not sure about Plymouth and Weymouth. All clubs an the UK have to complete at a level thats viable for them.

    World Finals 3 Decades.

Im trying to think of riders that have ridden in world Finals / GPS in 3 decades. I can think of Briggo 50's , 60's 70's, and Edward Jancarz 60's 70's 80's, but no more. Anyone else got any ideas ?
  18. I can't make the meeting tomorrow due to work comitments, I'd love to see Phil crump ride again. If anyone can get Mobile Phone footage of Crumpies demo and send it to me in a pm, I'd be very gratefull. Thanks.

    Tony Clarke

Does anyone know what happened to the former West Ham, Wembley, Newport and Wimbledon rider Tony Clarke ? Last I heard back in 73-74, he was doing time at her majestys pleasure.

I think it was the Russians bike's and other equipment prior to the 72 world final. One of the Ruskies I remember wore a set of Anders Michanecks old leathers, as his own had gone missing.

8 Races In 13 Heats Around Owlerton!

I'm sure it was 9, Reading almost won that night, so he didn't have a tac sub ride. He was a reserve, in those days they had 3 rides, so it was 3 programmed rides, 3 reserve rides + 3 R\ R rides, in fact if Reading ever went 6 behind he could have had a tac sub ride making 10 !!!!!!! I'm sure theres someone on the Newport Site who's got all the records I'll ask thers as well.

Try These For Rule Changes !

Some ideas I have, I guess they are there to be shot down in flames !! Tactial Ride to be scrapped. Tactical substitutes to be allowed if eight or more points down, but cannot be used in heat 8 or after heat 12. Hopefully this will prevent riders throwing heat 13 which has been known to happen. The Golden double(15m back) if 10points down, but not in heat 8 or after heat 12. Guest riders, 8 day rule to apply, plus if the rider rode for a club in the previous 2 seasons he cannot guest for anyone at that track, eg. Scott Nicholls can't guest at Ipswich, Lee Richardson at Peterborough, MikeColes at Exeter. Riders can only appear three times at any track, this would prevent teams calling up specialists being called up who tend to score more than the rider they replace. Points Limit to be the average of the leauges final declared sevens. Bonus point scrapped, 3pts away win, 2pts away draw & home win 1pt home draw Now have some fun picking holes in that lot !!!!

    Strange, But True

I'm not sure about this one, but I think I can remember in a match at Newports old Somerton Park track, circumstances prevailed that a rider was excluded from the same race twice ! Cant recall who it was , who he rode for or how it happend. Maybe some one can shed some light.

    2006 - Rules ?

One rule I would like to see changed is this silly doubling or halving of averages between the EL and PL. It can leave riders with averages they could never attain, eg. Ben Howe getting something like 11.90 . Maybe it would be best just to add or subtract 3 from a riders average, it would provide a more realistic figure. A 5 point EL rider could drop down with an average of 8, a 9 point PL rider could move up with an average of 6, seems fairer.
