What Is The Connection With Speedway And The Wall Of Death?
spinkox replied to Shale Searcher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
When is someone going to arrange for Guy Martin on a speedway bike?? - that would be good for the sport. Or have they already?? -
I dont remember the 'grandstand' in the background at RH - but I do remember clearly a band coming and having that type of photo taken. Course they might have had a session at Arlington as well...
-
There was a band photographed at Rye House in 69 or 70 - and I suspect this is them. . .

Poultec Speedway Training Course
spinkox replied to uk_martin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The list of things they train you in is in a very strange order - Number one - Media Studies/Communications Second to last - Track days ! -
I recall 2 photos from that final - one with Trevor Hedge in the lead on the first bend - and the next with him and his bike flying through the air. I suspect he was good for more than 0 points if this hadnt happened. . .

Broke his collarbone and wrecked the front wheel of the penny farthing - if I remember correctly. There were riders who managed a lap - Geoff Maloney one of them possibly?? I saw Reg Trott at the Reading training track around 9 years ago with his grandson who was riding. . .
-
I believe he had been using a Jawa 2 valve engine in some road races - is this still the case??
-
So why not apply again??
-
Werent there plenty of 2nd division speedway matches on Sundays after the late 60s??
-
Well - It would be a clever person who could show research to indicate the sport was thriving, profitable or sustainable etc. . .
-
Has anyone ever heard of a promoter doing any research?? at any track?? or seen the results??
-
I FULLY AGREE. People should be more easy going on this forum for that reason.

Just being realistic doesnt make anyone a cynic. You wont survive very long if you think only good things happen in life. Its difficult to be optimistic about speedway when you consider how many tracks have closed in the last 30 years - and how many supporters lost - etc etc

Who Was The Last Rider To Win An Official Meaningful Race On An Upright Engine, And Where?
spinkox replied to Shale Searcher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Im a bit out of my depth here - but surely there will always be a gravity pull - you cant avoid it on this planet. Whether it makes any difference to the engine - I dont know. -
Its the fiddling with the clutch lever adjuster that gets to me - utterly pointless. . . It looks like the riders have an uncontrollable twitch.

Been thinking about this - Is this REALLY true?? - even as a generalisation?? On an upright you would have the benefit of gravity as the piston went down. I would have thought it was more to do with bore and stroke etc. If speed and revs are a problem on modern bikes - what about enforcing a smaller diameter carb?? -

I cant think of a single sport that involves speed & corners where a lower centre of gravity doesnt help - even skiing. Ive never been on one - but quad bikes look like they dont go round corners very well. . . -
I just chanced upon it - it was a surprise to me!
