    Poole v Swindon. Prem. 19/8/19

ha ha..I've been following it for around 45 years or so, last night was a borefest and if you found it exciting can I recommend a 5000 piece jigsaw to really blow you away!

    Poole v Swindon. Prem. 19/8/19

Last night was a classic example of why speedway is in the mess it finds itself in this Country.. Track was poor, bumpy and little or no passes. How many Brits on show? Two hours of so called entertainment, literally ten minutes at max. a boring non eventful advert for British speedway.

    TV new deal?

Blocking only happens to where the payment holders address is, so a fan who lives around the corner could easily have a friend/family member pay who lives outside of the blocked radius and still watch the stream. Lack of secondary spend from footfall through the gates will have a massive knock on effect with the landlords and then the rent goes up, only one outcome for all concerned when that happens I'm afraid. Live streaming is a massive risk to speedway promoters, now if meetings were sell outs then live streaming would certainly have a future within the sport, right now owners and landlords need to keep the footfall it has not lose it. Another factor is if the likes of BT/Sky/Eurosport currently pay around £50k(ball park figure), they will not be willing to pay that sort of money if live streaming is available, where does that short fall come from?

    TV new deal?

a very colourful picture and outlook you paint but all that glitters isn't gold!...a major hurdle amongst many others in this is the loss of secondary spend income to Stadium/Track owners who don't own the speedway teams racing out of the stadium, can't imagine the likes of Wolverhampton(Ladbrokes) etc not increasing rent once crowds dwindle, which obviously they will do.

    TV new deal?

I'm led to believe the "blocking" of a 30 mile radius is down to where the payment address of the card/holder used to pay. 5000 sounds rather optimistic but applauded if correct.. For every £5 spent that could mean anything from one person watching to a ten or more, so basing this on 3 people watching at home at £5 income for the streamer and loss on the gate of £45(ave £15), times that by 5000 streams that's a loss of gate income of £225,000...all theory and ifs and buts!....then add the loss of income for the stadium owners of X amount on food and beverages, it will not take the owners of the stadiums to realise they are losing money on speedway meetings and in turn the rent will increase, catch 22 situation. I would say that 90% of league speedway meetings in the UK that are shown live on Tv have vastly depleted crowds, whilst I agree that live streaming would mean an additional income , it certainly has a knock on effect with any fundraising that clubs carry out on a race night and the stadiums owners.

    TV new deal?

Live streaming will be the final nail in the coffin for a lot of teams and in turn a lot of stadiums.
  8. Odds On

    Cook, Vissing and Kennett banned.

a level of consistency needs to be shown by the SCB, how they have come to those actual punishments is bemusing to say the least but then again nothing surprises me in this sport anymore.

    TV new deal?

it could be argued that some promoters became contented/lazy in terms of promoting their brand, they knew they would be guaranteed X amount through a tv deal. Speedway needs a platform to promote itself, self streaming by clubs only preaches to the converted and does not attract a wider and new audience on mass, like it or not speedway needs to do a deal with either Sky/BT or who ever.

    TV new deal?

after the debacle of Team GB at the weekend, who in their right mind would want to go anywhere near British speedway as it stands right now?

Speedway On Tv And The Internet In 2024

any British speedway on tv this week?
  12. if ever you needed to see just how speedway is spiralling downwards in the UK then last night was a prime example of it. Very small crowd with the average age above at least 45. Track an absolute disgrace. Little in the way of entertainment. Not one GP/World Class rider on show. As a spectacle and as a advert for the sport it probably did more harm than good.
  13. Odds On

    GUEST RIDER BRAINWAVE!!

speedway is all but done, take Saturdays Grand Prix as an example, 16 of the best riders in the world(in theory), 24 races and arguably 20 of those races were pure rubbish, very little in terms of entertainment and excitement. I would say that 80-90% of speedway meetings see the first 25% of a meeting with no overtaking or excitement other than when a rider gets out of shape. It is also very noticeable that nowadays riders find it hard to control a bike if the track is anything other than a smooth and shale less.. Right now there aren't many people making money out of the sport, the top riders and engine tuners for sure but the vast majority of riders and promoters are doing their proverbials. Fans need to realise that in a matter of only a few years there will only be one league in the UK, as Clubs will sadly go to the wall and never return. Speedway is in the entertainment business,it needs to start entertaining to the wider audience than just the die hard speedway fan.

Speedway On Tv And The Internet In 2024

any speedway on TV today?..Monday 27/5/19
  16. Odds On

    Swindon Stadium

thought the press release many moons ago was about a new stadium and not just track work?...surely this track work should of been done weeks/months ago? if mother nature is unkind this could be an absolute disaster.
  17. Odds On

    Swindon Stadium

it must be nigh on four years ago that Rossitor stood with a plan of the new stadium for the press to shout about, no nearer to a resolve.
  18. perhaps a trophy for the team who wins the league then the top four compete in the play offs? I personally think you will still get the same buzz.
  19. Odds On

    Swindon Stadium

sorry to piss on anybody's bonfire but do you honestly believe this will happen?
  20. so to sum up. Crap track. Crap racing. Crap refereeing. Everything else is open to discussion.!!
  21. track was awful, ref was poor, little or no speedway racing...all adds up to a poor advert for the showcase of British league speedway
  22. with what is supposed to be the showcase for British league speedway, I've got to say it was terrible, a track prepared for gate and go,, a referee who at best was incompetent and a meeting starved of any real speedway racing. Poole will probably win over the two legs but the real loser is speedway itself.
  23. brave man to back against this Lynn team over two legs.
  24. what a cracking team Kings Lynn have, very strong and entertaining. Palm Toft just looked class all night. R Lambert just oozes class and sublime in heats 13 and 15. Kings Lynns team manger should be applauded for trying to keep people apart. Belle Vue's track should be on the GP calendar, easily the best track in terms of racing and excitement in the UK.
  25. if you get the right people promoting the sport then the sport will flourish, is speedway any more boring than darts?..certainly not but just take a look at how that sport is promoted.
