During the TV broadcast, when they went to one of the breaks, they showed odd clips, on one of the clips it showed a riders tank being filled and the colour of the methanol was pink. Have they started putting colouring in methanol? Never seen that before, but it has been a while since I was in and around any pits!

Not sure about now Mick but in the late 90s we did use yellow methanol - it was brought in to stop cheating with fuel.

Max rode at Toruń with a broken wrist. It is alleged he was considering pulling out of the meeting but was informed that would jeopardise his chance of getting a wild card. Fat good that did him. He must be severely irritated by the politics of the organisers including a 28 year old Latvian and a 30 year old German ahead of him. 9th in the World is not good enough for the GPs it seems.

But that's why only the top six 'qualify'

    100%...

The issue was that not many are Doyle and Emil's level, hence the track beat them..

Emil lifted a couple of times and almost ran over Doyle, but just controlled the bike as if nothing happened..

Pickering and King seemed to handle the grip also, but the rest simply were not capable of attacking it..

Hence, the racing as a spectacle suffered...

Best of luck to Ippo on Thursday...

They've forgotten or never learnt how to ride a track with shale on it :D

I get winning in a final is great...

And Doyle and Emil, and Pickering to be fair, showed the track could be attacked..

But, honestly, the racing was crap...

A whole straight between riders ..

And I was there to watch the same last week...

I am happy Ippo won, but it was rubbish to watch as a Speedway fan..

Steady's face did make up for a lot of that though...:D

Each to their own, Doyle in heat 10 or 11 when beating Lambert was right on the edge, as fast as he could go, super gutsy & great to watch.

  5. I wonder if any of the keyboard warriors on here were actually trackside? Nothing wrong with it at all, just need Skill to ride it fast. Hume falls on the track all the time as he doesn't get off the seat, very similar to how Jake Allen used to ride it. Others showed how it could be done, one of Doyle's best meetings for the Witches, him and Emil a class above, riding together for those 2 5-1s. Messrs LorM and Gollob would loved that tonight. The 2k crowd left the track in great spirits.

No way is that the best 15 riders in the world, dreadful.

It's not meant to be. It's a serious which needs to sell, attracting not only fans from many nations but also the venues. I think it mixed it up and so much better than just picking the 3/4 riders below from the top 6. Dude & Janowski have had enough chances.

At least everybody rides against the same quality of rider every round.

At least everybody rides in the same number of meetings.

At least qualification isn't based on where you live.

I know what you're saying but wildcards are definitely selected based on ticket sales/geography and I'm sure the organisers are really pleased Vaculik has made the top six this time so that he didn't need yet another wild card :) Also, federations are allocated places in the qualifiers for the GP challenge route so geography is a part of that as well.

  8. All seems a bit ridiculous, almost as if they're protecting the other GP riders from them!  Happy for them to earn money and race in Poland but not internationally when other sports allow them e.g. Tennis.  It's also denying the paying fans the chance to see true World Champ events.

I'm sure that Russians not being able to compete in FIM events will really twist the arm of Putin to stop the war....

The same reason that KOC-Up matches aren't included, i.e. because that would create an imbalance in the number of meetings per team. It doesn't quite work out like that, simply because of injuries, line-up changes, etc., but that's the principle behind it.

I don't see why it matters though, surely the idea of an average is to have an average score for that rider, as long as it's for the same standard of meeting I cannot fathom why cup or play-off meetings are excluded.

Just listened to the Birmingham speedway podcast. Pretty much confirms that Birmingham will be in the prem next year and riders are already approaching the club. 80 % likely Brimingham will run next year.

Great news if true and shows their ambition.

And that's because it was never designed to qualify all the world's best. If it had been, you wouldn't have had the continental qualifiers. It was designed to get a variety of nations represented, regardless of how good the riders were. People today still don't get how flawed the old system was...

And this is also true of the GPs.

Looks like there may be a bit of light rain tomorrow night but I'll predict Ips 43 She 47.

Not sure why others predict a 10 point plus Ipswich win - but then I don't have a great record :). Lambert and Harris should get 23 between them and Sheffield have the better reserves, should be good for 12 between them, which leaves holder, howarth & pickering to get 12 between them for a four point win.

Ben’s the better rider right now but think Zach’s style and balance on the bike he has a higher ceiling career wise. A point less average wise too so a better fit for team building and went better than Ben at Foxhall this year. Our current team average isn’t much above 39, if that’s the same building limit next season will likely be a very similar looking side with just a couple of changes

    1. Emil

    2. z.cook/wojdylo/another new 5.00

    3. King

    4. Rew

    5. Doyle

    6. Hume/Dan T

    7. Dan T/Joe T/Boughen/another

Think those reserves would get smashed, Joe T no thanks and Boughen is nowhere near Premiership, struggles to get a point in the championship.
