Ron, We live in a free country* and therefore if there is a market for a Kenny Carter book, someone wants to write it and people want to read it, then it's going to get published. We should be thankful that the book was written by an author such of Tony MacDonald, who has taken a responsible attitude in writing the book, instead of going for the sensationalist angle. I would recommend this book. It's a rivetting read, even though I still can't understand why Carter did what he did. Penhall was right - he must have had a screw lose somewhere. Now finished the book. An excellent read, and don't worry, it doesn't hold back. It is interesting to finally read Bruce Penhall's views on Kenny Carter, even though they're not pretty!! And has it changed my opinion on Kenny Carter - the rider I loved to hate as a child? Not really. The bloke was dealt a very hard difficult of set of cards, but it still doesn't excuse his completely arrogant, unlikeable personality, and certainly doesn't excuse his dreadful final act. Hoping to get along to this. Should be a good weekend... the PL Paris at Somerset on Friday, Cardiff on Saturday, the first meeting back at Oxford on Sunday when we entertain Buxton, and then the first meeting for the new Reading promotion on Monday. Should make up for nearly a month without watching any Speedway (the British Final is my only meeting since Oxford's temporary closure), now I hope the weather will behave itself!! All the best Rob

Subedei, For ages, we've had to put up with you telling us how wonderful the Polish Speedway is and how good the Polish riders are. And also how there should be around 6 Poles or something daft and no Brits in the GP series. Well tonight, ON THEIR OWN SOIL, not a SINGLE Pole (and there were five of them) qualified for the semi-finals of the European GP. In comparison, out of the two British competitors, Chris Harris finished a fantastic third and looked better than all the Polish boys put together. So are the Poles still wonderful, or maybe just maybe the British riders aren't as bad as you think they are. All the best Rob

Vog, It wasn't the top 8 foursomes... it was 8 selected foursomes, now it's just a slightly different 8. Regarding Michael Coles riding for Oxford, what's wrong with this? Oxford have more-or-less come into this compeition as a favour to the CL. We only had four riders available, then with Grant unavailable, it's down to three riders. What do you want: a blank space in the programme, or a rider who could be a big drawcard? All the best Rob

I notice that there is a thread for this in Testimonials / Individual meetings / Super7even events, but as this competition is none of those, hardly anyone has contributed to it... probably because they can't find it!! Oxford have now replaced Rye House, who were unable to raise a team, so the revised line-up is: GROUP 1: Scunthorpe Buxton Oxford Sittingbourne GROUP 2: Plymouth Stoke Boston Weymouth It is the first of four visits to the St. Bonniface Arena for Oxford in 2007. The Lions will be without Jordan Frampton and Andrew Bargh, who are riding in the PL, but I still think we're in with a chance of getting to the final. As for the eventual winners, as long as their top four are avialable, I can't see anyone stopping the homesters... not even Scunthorpe. All the best Rob

The new points system is b*ll*cks. Why they didn't just give the third-placed man in the semis one extra point, I'll never know. It's just as easy for a rider to walk away with the championship now, as the standings after one round show. Not only that, but consider this scenario. Rider A scores 7 + 2 + 6 = 15 in each GP. Rider B scores 15 + 1 = 16 in each GP. It's possible for a rider to win every GP, but for the World Champion to be a rider who never reached a single final! Utter tripe. Get rid of it now. Crumpie is still favourite, but with comments such as "I still believe the title is Crump's, if he wants it", you're way off the mark. Nicki, Hans and Greg will make him work hard for it. Now really has a big choice - does he nail his colours to the British mast and continue into the international rounds and also the British Final? If so, then surely young Tai is British. Ben Barker: Fast and rode the track excellently. Thoroughly deserved to go straight through to the final, and but for a poor choice of gate in the final (gate two would have been a far better option than gate 4) could have finished second in the meeting. Lewis Bridger: Should learn a lot from last night's disappointment. As Bob C has already mentioned, spat the dummy twice, after being beaten fairly by Barker in Heat 19 and then after clearly taking Woffinden clean off his bike on the second bend, leading to Bridger having an unjustified "go" at Woffinden. Needs to learn to control his temperament and also how to be a graceful loser. Otherwise some wonderful Speedway from him - including a last to first in Heat 4, and cutting up the inside of all three other competitors in the first attempt to hold the semi-final. Danny King: Unlucky. An engine failure while second in Heat 20 cost him a direct route to the final, and then had a refereeing decision go against him in the semi-final. Locked up while in second behind Bridger, regained control, but Lawson ran into him and fell, with King judged to be at fault. Likely to get the seeded spot into the international rounds. Of the others, James Wright was very unlucky, and with King also failing to make the top five, Wright's World U21 campaign is surely already over, unless Woffinden wants to be Australian and withdraws. British Final qualifiers: Kennett, Lawson, Woffinden. World U21 qualifiers: Kennett, Lawson, Woffinden, Barker, Bridger plus one to be selected by Peter Oakes - I would imagine King.
