    07/09/21 1830 Kent v Scunthorpe (Champ)

By jumping every start, I assume you mean trapping - because Broc Nicol wasn't rolling (with the exception of Heat 3). It's not an offence to make good starts. As for the final race, yes he did move, but that was triggered by Batchelor moving inside him first. Batchelor didn't get a warning. Mind you, this came from a ref who also penalised Gilkes in Heat 11 for touching the tapes, when I'm not sure if he did, to be honest! Disappointing way for the evening to end from a Scunthorpe perspective and a shame because it was a great night of speedway until then. Would have been interesting to see if Nicol could have got the better of Batchelor and Nicholls in Heat 15, but thanks to the ref, we never got to find out!

    Poole Pirates 2021

Such sad news. Bob was a lovely chap and a huge speedway fan and at Oxford neatly every week in 2007 when Brendan Johnson was riding for us. Saw him at Poole just a couple of weeks ago for the Poole v Scunny meeting. RIP Bob.

    Scunny v Leicester 3.9.21

With Stefan Nielsen in the side, Pirates would have been in an excellent position to take advantage of a Scorpions' side missing Tero Aarnio and Jordan Palin, arguably the best two Scunny riders at the EWR. Without Stef's almost guaranteed double-point score from reserve, you might struggle. Are you coming up next Friday, Steve? Looked for you at Birmingham on Wednesday, but couldn't see you.

    Scunny v Leicester 3.9.21

And Mountain scored 10+1 for Newcastle. With 8 out of 11 teams riding tonight and some riders turning down bookings, it's horses for courses and both teams have picked a rider who scored well at the EWR earlier this season. Intriguing meeting, with neither side at full strength. We'll see how it goes.

    Poole v Newcastle 25th August 2021

Bob, you should have gone over to the Isle Of Wight for either the handicap meeting last week or the last leg of the 3TT this week. Two superb meetings. Sounds like I got the half decent meeting at Poole last week - tonight sounds poor.

    Name your favourite five riders.

I could, but then there would be more than five riders in the list

    Scunny v Brum 20.8.21

Please refresh your browser - it's on the website. Please advise if you still can't see it - thanks.
  9. Can people pay on the turnstile at Poole. I need to add a new item to the Scunny website, advising them to buy tickets for Plymouth by online in advance, but have Poole gone back to normal?

    Scunthorpe v Redcar - 13.08.21

If Carlsberg did speedway meetings then last night would have been it! The racing was simply brilliant, the result wasn't decided until the final bend, and fans from both sides contributed to a great atmosphere.

    Philip Rising R.I.P

I've always loved the Speedway Star. I adored the stats page, and spent more time reading with that magazine than anything else while I was growing up during the 1980s. Of course, the editor of the Star during that period was Phil Rising. He made such a huge contribution to speedway, while at times, it could be argued that magazine is better than speedway has deserved. RIP Phil.

    Scunthorpe vs Poole 30.07.2021

I see. You make a daft comment and then pretend it was a wind up all along

See you there mate. Is Shovvy coming up?

    Scorpions v Monarchs 27.6.21

I think that hits the nail on the head. Certain riders prefer a track where 90% of winning a race is popping first out of the gate and then defending their position. Scunny isn't like that. It's a track prepared principally for the paying customers so that they can enjoy good racing. And yesterday those fans saw some superb racing.

    Masks or no masks

Councils are weird. I guess they haven't worked out once people are in place, there's zero risk of spreading the virus when socially distanced in an outdoor setting. Of the five tracks I've attended this season, three required a mask to be worn if you were moving about then you could take it off once settled and the other two only required a mask if you went inside to order food, etc. I probably won't go to Ipswich or King's Lynn until the restrictions are removed, because I start to feel a bit dizzy if I have a mask on for too long. I realise there's nothing the promotions could do and it's just the ignorance of the councils involved.

    Scunthorpe v Eastbourne 4th June

PLEASE note there are still roadworks on Normanby Road, right outside the Eddie Wright Raceway, so please leave extra travelling time for Scorpions v Eastbourne tonight (7.30pm). Thank you! Thomas Jorgensen is all set to ride for Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions against Eagles, despite a heavy crash at Ipswich last night, which left him as badly winded.
  19. PLEASE note there are roadworks on Normanby Road, right outside the Eddie Wright Raceway, so please leave extra travelling time for Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions v Leicester Lions tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm). Thank you!
  20. Full credit has to go to both promotions. Plymouth were fully co-operative in the rapid re-staging.
  21. Forecast for tomorrow looking good.
