Weak locally elected bodies allow such things to happen all the time..

Often, due to saving the cost of going to court..

And with virtually zero protestations from the Swindon fan base, and zero fight back, we are where we are..

In fact, the lack of a vocal response and clear protest targeted action taken, could help the cause of Osbourne who can turn around and say "it wont be missed"..

Exactly,  he knows how to play the long game. If they had finished Speedway at Swindon after 2019 saying it wasnt coming back, there would have been uproar. So they string people along for a few years first, then when they announce it the support has dwindled and the councillors no longer care and are probably fed up of the whole thing.

You give him too much credit, he got lucky and came up against SBC who allowed him to hoodwink them over and over again if had been someone like Oxford or rugby council he may have come unstuck.

Not really, he's got a pretty good record for getting what he wanted. I know he failed with Oxford years ago but he was nothing to do with it this time around. And he was only involved in Cov because BE knew he was good at closing Speedway tracks down! Dont get me wrong  I'm not a fan of his, in fact I'm  Reading fan. If I saw him on fire I'd go fill a jerry can and make sure the job was done properly! But hes obviously a devious bastard and very good at it.

SO can someone run me through this photo taken mid october 2023 at a greyhound meeting. I take it the new build is supposed to be the new stadium stand but what if the cagey people behind the build turn the tables and turn them into apartments?!!! Really hope im wide of the mark but just reading through these pages it seems like Osbourne and co could do anything!!!

It does seem like they have always had a long term plan to deal with any eventuality so who knows? Would laugh my nuts off if someone was to come forward and offer to run Speedway, I'm sure if the council backed them he couldnt refuse.

I used the website "contact us" form a while ago to ask for directions to, and a fixture list for,  Bristol stadium, the most successful Speedway venue of the modern era.   Surprisingly I have had no reply either.

It's as if the "contact us" form goes nowhere.  Anyone else want to try it?

I also asked where the Bristol venue is yesterday as I was amazed I wasnt aware of it. No answer yet...

Congratulations on Leicester on appointing a new female Co Promoter. I understand that she has basically been running the club for a number of years behind the scenes. We need more women represented at the top of the sport. I can only think of Debbie Hancock in the past and Julie Reading at Sheffield.

Pat Bliss ran Reading for years

Finished 2023 on 4.96, so starts on 4.84.

But has a squad place in Polish National League (old Div.2) so would probably rule out Friday nights at Armadale.

Thanks. It would be a real shame if he doesnt race Championship this season, there's a lot of potential there if he gets a clear run.

How have BSPL twisted it? He appeared on 2023 Final green sheets as 4.21 so with 2.5% reduction he's due to start on 4.10.

Don't see how Edinburgh could think he would be on anything else. They could still use him on that average then if his average falls upgrade when riders like Gilkes or Rowe find their not getting enough meetings and are looking for a team, like Drew Kemp last year.

    What is Dan Gilkes' GSA?

There is almost nothing in it!
Perry Barr to Cowley... 2 hr 5 min (82.9 mi)
Perry Barr to Longsight...  2 hr 16 min (82.5 mi)
Perry Barr to Owlerton....   2 hr 19 min (82.7 mi)

I reckon you googled the 1st one during a traffic jam, google says 1 hour 40 (82 miles) at the moment! I can do Perry Barr in 2 hours and I have to drive past Oxford to get there.

That would've been when he went round straight away as soon as the race was over

Now the Tractor is not allowed to move whilst any rider remains on the track - hence the programmed grading breaks

I do agree though it doesn't have to take an age ans could be done more than after 4 , 7 ,11 and 14

I've never understood why many get so upset with trackwork - done right it improves the racing and surely that's what people want....

This has amazed me over the past few years, we used to moan if the tractors - and rakers - didnt come out after every heat. They didnt delay racing, they graded during the natural gap. Now people moan because they come out at all!

I’ve just caught up on this thread and it’s a joy to read in quiet times. And interesting that the BSF community has passed judgement - and, on balance, it’s not in Richie’s favour.
As far as the comments on Danny Bird are concerned, davie10 has half the story. There were suspicions raised about Danny in 2006 when he was riding for Glasgow. At that time, there wasn’t the same drug testing routine that has been operating for the last 6 or 7 years.
A drug testing team arrived at Glasgow which someone spotted and Danny feigned illness or injury and was given permission by the referee, perhaps ignorant of the drug testing about to take place, gave Danny permission to leave the stadium.

Subsequently, the referee was heavily censured for his actions but, from that day, Danny was a marked man and tested positive for a distillate of cocaine when tested in 2007 at Reading.

I will confess I didnt know about the Glasgow episode, but knew 100% that he was with Reading when he was banned. Thanks for the info.

    Janowski No.1 is a 100% certainty.

BSN running an article about Janowski being in talks with 3 British clubs, We know it's not Sheffield, Certainly isn't BV, Ips or Leic.

So it's Oxford, Brum and KL......Oxford's owners can make Magic a much better offer than KL and Brum.

Not 100%... he could turn all 3 down!!
