Hancock Banned After Attacking An "innocent" Man As He Was Out Riding His Bike
Cornishfisherman replied to SCB's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So the rule is in Speedway ;- You can attack another rider with a lethal weapon but you mustn't retaliate with a harmless Rugby takcle. That about sums it up I think. -
Should Tai Woffinden Ride For Team Gb ?
Cornishfisherman replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Isn't it a pity that this matter has had to be dicussed-it is an unofficial meeting at any case and Woffinden's press agent or whatever would have been well advised not to have sent a long apologetic press release on behalf of the rider. I don't think the average supporter could care less if Tai Woffinden rode in the meting or not. It has fired up a lot of people and that is a pity. -

.....and from the forecasts it is going to do the same tomorrow AND Friday. -
I really wasn't worried which team won but due to a lack of discretion I have come to the conslusion that Speedway LOST in fact for a professional sport presented on TV it was something of a FARCE. .

Nice to see a decent crown for a Sky match,. The Start Marshall I thought was rather kind to the home team .. I bet the referees will be watching closely at future meetings,.

Birmingham Future In Doubt ? Alan Phillips Has Had Enough!
Cornishfisherman replied to Brummie Kev's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I have a very special affinity for Birmingham and am so sorry to hear the sad news. The fans, particularly those who purchased season tickets have been hard done by and my old friend Brian Buck who has worked so hard for this venue as he did for the Greyhound stadium across the way prior to the opening there in 1971. It is amazing that this situation was allowed to happen, surely someone must have seen the red light. Nice gesture that some of the other tracks have made in respect of Brummie Season Ticket holders,. Let's hope that something can be sorted out for 2015.. Colin Barber, -
Birmingham Future In Doubt ? Alan Phillips Has Had Enough!
Cornishfisherman replied to Brummie Kev's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Incidentally Joe Thurley at the time that Birmingham was elevated to the British League was a 25% shareholder in Speedway Presentations (Birmingham ) Ltd., and it was the company that was almost bankrupted and not Joe Thurley. He was at that time the partner of John Berry in the very successful Ipswich Promotion. Just thought you might like to know the true facts -
I don't think that Swindon was ever his favourite track- even when he rode for Ipswich !!!

Birmingham Future In Doubt ? Alan Phillips Has Had Enough!
Cornishfisherman replied to Brummie Kev's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
One of the main problems with Speedway in general and Birmingham in particular is that no one seems to learn from History! Many years ago Birmingham were doing very nicely thank you in the then National League but one of the Directors of the company had ambitions of taking the Brummies into the British League . It happened, the costs rocketed, the attendances went down and eventually Birmingham Speedway was no more. Prior to the elevation, on Monday Evenings , Green and white, Black and Old Gold and Black and Yellow were were evident -the Brummies were their second division team but once they moved up Birmingham were their deadly enemies and the only time they arrived in any quantity was for local derbies. It would appear that history has repeated its self . -

Is there anyone who can indicate an URL at the point on the iPlayer that we might be able to listen to the exchanges. Some of us oldies are not too clever when it comes to modern technology. Colin Barber -

April 26: European Fim Speedway Grand Prix (bydgoszcz, Poland)
Cornishfisherman replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think it is about time that the Polish public realised that Tomasz Gollob is not the rider that he was 10 or even 5 years ago and it would appear that they have taken sides in the silly spat that is going on. If the European Championships have one meeting half as good as the one we witnessed last evening I will be very surprised! As for Mr Rising's comment about the basketball I think he got that one completely wrong ! Had he been watching the Canonlsation in Rome on the TV this morning he would have seen where all the Bydgoszcz fans were !! They had their banners to prove it, although I must say I didn't see the name Gollob on any of them! -
The number of times that Wal Morton and Geoff Pymar are referred to as 'Team Mates' would aggrevate Geoff although he did ride at the same venue on several occasions but not necessarily at the same time, he was never 'bosom pals' with Wal. They were two very different people! He did caddy for Tony Jacklin was very friendly with Jack Nicklaus and many other top golfers and exchanged Letters and Greetings cards with many of the very best golfers in the world including Tiger Woods. He did 4 laps on a 'lay-down' engine at King's Lynn when he was 87 (I believe that was his age at the time) and he likened it to a Rolls Royce compared with the JAPs that he rode. He was a lovely man as well as being a very interesting person and being of Norfolk/Suffolk extraction particularly interesting to a local yokel such as me.

British Semi-finals
Cornishfisherman replied to Fozzie4388's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
It could only happen in Speedway Dave ! Like Bach riding for Ipswich in the afternoon and against Ipswich in the evening. -
Complete and utter waste of time tonight - one bet and then I lost the stream and couldn't get it back.

British Speedway Promoters Meeting
Cornishfisherman replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The problem with TV Speedway is that someone like myself will miss going to speedway for any minor reason as I can get my weekly 'fix' on Sky. If there was no TV Speedway I might just go each week -perhaps I'm not the only person who thinks this way. Oh by the way I did cancel my Sky Sports subscription and when asked why I was cancelling I did say that I am only interested in Speedway and should they decide to show the sport next season I would be re-subscribing. Also on the Subject of the Terry Russell dealings with Sky, I just wonder if someone else knows something of an alternative Company who might just be interested in screening the sport next season. Compared with Soccer Speedway is cheap for any Broadcaster particularly taking into account the viewing figures. -
Ipswich V Edinburgh 25/7/13
Cornishfisherman replied to Ipswich Jules's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think 'Had Enough' got it right in one! but perhaps the England Manager missed heat one of the Poole v Birmingham match a week or two earlier. Barker was in a rich vein of form in both divisions and with far more experience than Cook many thought he was the obvious choice for the King's Lynn round of the SWC, he did perform rather well there in an SWC a year or so earlier. Had Barker been picked all this may not have happened although there is also a bit of a feeling by some Ipswich supporters that the referee got it wrong in the final race of the Fours at Peterborough, which cost the Witches the Trophy and nasty unecessary injuries to one of their riders. -
Who Should Be In Gb World Cup Team?
Cornishfisherman replied to bri1966's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
And he doesn't have to have gates 3 or 4 to do the big one on bend one. He does it on any bend . I think Middlo hasn't been watching who is beating who !!Barker has hit a rich vein of form and for comparison purposes Kennett is a good Premier League rider, Barker is a top Premier League rider . -

Cornishfisherman replied to PremierRebel's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Strange that Mr King was on site on Saturday evening, was 'something in the air' ? I guess he will be at several tracks in the course of the next few days but after this I doubt he will find anything. Too many really good riders have not been scoring their usual quota of points this season !! Perhaps things may alter now. I do hope he will be on the International scene as well ?? -
Perhaps some of friends on the forum don't follow Cricket,All of the following are playing or have recently played in the England team, Straus, Pietersen,Trott, Kieswetter,Morgan.Dernbach,Prior- where do you think they were born ? Certainly not in the UK or to be precise not in England or Wales. Even in our own sport Mark Loram wasn't born in the UK. So all the argument about a little 15 year old who is entitled to a British Passport is a complete and utter waste of bandwith. Perhaps a little jealousy has crept in here. Really those who are trying to make arguments about the lad are making themselves look very foolish indeed.
-
I think you will find that several riders born of British Mothers or fathers and born in the UK have both.

They don't seem to be doing too badly at present though, do they? No doubt you saw the result at Rye House last evening ? You could well have a red face after they have visited your track as well.
