  1. I believe the crowd was nearer to 5k than 3k but a bit worrying that with all the excellent publicity this meeting received that we, the sport as a whole could not deliver a sell-out situation must be a bit worrying! - One reason was the complicated and costly way of purchasing advance tickets - The ticket price was acceptable, BUT £4 surcharge on EVERY ticket, plus a postage charge, almost smacks of a con! - Poole is not in London's West End!! - Restaurant table Minimum 6 meaning 2 cars for most people, was also a turn-off - The programme was also interesting at a value of £6, pushing the boundaries to the extreme, worth £3 Maximum in todays market - Still the 60k had to be found from somewhere i suppose!

6,000 spectators acording to the Daily Mail and Pedersen took the £60k prize.

Do not get me wrong i was one of the few non Poole fans applauding the Poole promotion for putting on this meet, at the start of this topic and would have gone but its about a 9-10 hour drive from Worky!!

  2. Why should you feel cheated? You went to see the racing and the pull of the line-up, I assume, not to make a donation to any particular rider - you could have done that from home. There are many comments on the internet about this, all varied, but things such as "Nicki's taking £60,000 away from Britain". Goodness me, he shared his winnings - so what? I think it was a fantastic gesture, but it seems he would have been damned if he did, damned if he didn't.

I think it would only be fantastic if he shared the money after the race or gave some away to charity, before the race well thats just edging you bets.

The final race just ended up winning for the prestige, well that is if it,s true the money was shared.......

  3. taken from Nicki's website

Nicki opens 2008 with splendid victory

    09-03-2008

With a perfect seasonopener by winning Pooles Diamond Jubilee, Nicki showed that he is in perfect form for the 2008-season.

    - Unless my first heat, I felt very good. There were some hard battles, but I think my very good starters meant the difference today, Nicki says.

Right before the final, where Nicki beat Andreas Jonsson, Scott Nicholls and Leigh Adams, the four racers decided to split the 60.000 GBP into four equal portions.

    - I think it was the right decission to make. Now everybody are happy, Nicki says

Unbelievable, seems a bit odd, what about racing for the big pot or is this a wind up!

  4. Cannot believe some of the negative views on this topic, must be jealosy.

Poole Speedway promote a great meeting with a world class field and a £60,000.00

Prize for the winner and most of the other EL supporters are slagging it off .

If i lived in the Poole area i would definitley be there, good luck to the Poole promoters for putting on such a meeting.

Even SS made some valid points! :D

  5. Pardon my ignorance, but were the kids riding 500cc bikes.

    Cheers Chopper

Yes, all were on 500, s there were however one or two 250 cc races.

Tony Mole did stress in the programme notes that we and BSPA must " concentrate on developing British talent by means of 80cc or 100cc powered machines and then progress to 250 cc engines before the riders are mounted on the 500 cc engines used in conventional speedway."

  6. Report in the local paper, no mention of the injured rider, hope he is well.

Can only imagine what it feels like for a parent to have a son /Daughter racing speedway. There were some nasty accidents on Sunday but most seemed to have got away without any major injuries.

Big respect to all the competitors at the meeting, they are very tough and brave. :)

  7. I gather Jason had two wins, two exclusions and an engine failure. He is only 13 and this was his first ever meeting. He is very fast though, he has set times not far off Elite League pace on his own at Belle Vue but just doesn't have much racing experience at the monent. Next year he will be allowed to do Academy League though.

Thats right Jason did have two wins and looks a good prospect for such a young lad and in one race was lying second but gave it a big handful to try and go up the inside but there was no room and took the other rider off.

There is no denying his potential but just had a rush of blood in the heat of the race!

There seemed to be some confusion during the match when mechanics/dads? tried to take over when an exclusion light came on and the guys were put back on 2 mins, all good fun!

There also seemed to be some confusion during the working out of the Qualifiers for the Semis and Quarter finals but a certain team manager was having none of it. :D

  9. Kyle it wold appear has a lot of supporters going out for this!!

My heart says Yes BFD but my head says it will be a cluster of Danes. All the same I will be there to cheer him on.

    S*ds law says he'll be 4th!! :(

Very sad not to have any British involvement but it does leave me clear to take my Aussie flag and wave it high.

Yes no Brits in the Challenge and Bomber and Scottie on the knife edge to qualify for next years GP............. :( ..... is this the shape of things to come!
