  1. Jason Doyle must have racked up hundreds of pounds in fines for all the practice starts he does not wearing his helmet... yet he still continues to do them ;)

Track grade after heat 3... that's not normal, probably because we've just seen the first passing of the night and we don't want that!

I mean each to their own.....I actually found it quite interesting and I'm pretty sure he's not the first rider I've heard talk about cold conditions being a challenge. Generally speaking he's a great podcast guest as he is very articulate and knowledgeable about the sport.

I agree about the rest of it was interesting and I remember listening to Mudguard talking about the atmosphere in the Millennium Stadium when he rode there but come on the cold conditions don't just effect Nicolai and he should have it sussed out now after 20 years in the game

  3. I've just listened to Nicolai Klindt on the British Speedway podcast and I must say I've never heard such a load of crap he was spouting about being dropped from Oxford because it was too cold! He was basically saying that he couldn't get going this season because the temperatures have effected his machinery and that now that it's warming up watch him go! Now Nicolai is a rider with some 20 years of senior Speedway experience initially in "tropical" Denmark and to use this as an excuse is scraping the barrel, yes weather and temps do effect machine performance but to use this as an excuse says more about him than the weather... what does this say to anybody that is thinking of signing him for their team next year? Don't bother until May? He also said that Steve Worrall says he suffers from the same... erm, condition? If I was Worrall I'd be distancing myself from those comments

One problem of that is, how many mechanics have riders got these days?

Don't get me wrong, I see what you're getting at, I just think that there are more pressing problems with the sport, before how people are dressed in the pits.

It's a quick win though, hardly needs anything to be done and will provide an immediate visual benefit... just get a load of branded clobber made up and hand it out at TV meetings, return it at the end and introduce an essential workers list to the pit entry... simples

I know that but I’m just adding my two pence into it like many others.

Nobody is suggesting that all and sundry, including the "tea ladies", be kitted out with team clobber, that's pointless. TV is a smoke and mirrors game, often it's all about camera angles, so, yes clear the pits of all of the hangers on and anybody that is likely to be shown on TV should be wearing some kind of uniform clothing (like the men in white coats back in the day, but probably a more modern take). It's a bit rough you being expected to provide your own protective clothing though, it's the least Worky should have done.

These little things do matter, they all add up, when the cameras are there it’s not a good look when the camera pans round and what you see looks like a scene from rap video, clear the pits of hangers on and get the staff mechanics wearing team stuff

All those that are in the pits could/should be wearing branded clothing with the league sponsors blazoned all over them that Phil could bring with him and hand out at the start of the meeting, if clubs don't want to provide their own. These are the little things that he was looking into and addressing last year when he first took over, so he may very well have it all in hand.

Get real, who’s going to pay for the whole of the pits attendees to be dressed the same ?

The pits attendees can be two teams plus their mechanics , promoters and their ‘guests’ , various staff such as clerk of the course, pit Marshall’s, environment officer , tea ladies , track staff , second half riders, with parents in some cases, invited sponsors, ex riders ( if allowed in at that particular track ) and if it’s a double header there can be upto 100 people around.

Even track staff do not get provided with club clothing , usually just the team, team manager, promoter and his/her partner !

    That's the spirit!

I think Chris louis knows what he is doing, Ritchie Hawkins would not be allowed to make such a decision!

I think Ipswich reserves are very capable of beating the Leicester reserves, the form he is on and at his favourite track, Dan T will be on fire.

It's all a bit safe though isn't it, it's always been done that way so that's the way we're going to do it. I think keeping the opposition guessing as regards their line-up is like Speedway's version of Bazball... Stewball if you like :D

No disrespect to Ritchie as he does a fine job for Ippo, but it's hard to imagine him managing elsewhere for another team, I wouldn't have thought he'd be on anybody's "wanted" list unlike Stewart Dickson or Rob Lyon for example.

Who's gonna go at number 5 now? No obvious "second heat leader". I might've put Lampart there, to leave Worrall, Brennan & Z.Cook where they will score points?

Mind you Lampart will be replacing Milik at 6 very soon anyway.

Assuming they're going to work with what they've got, I'd probably go:

    1 Pawlicki

    2 Lampart

    3 Milik

    4 Brennan

    5 Worrall

    6 Cook

    7 Flint

If you watch on Discovery+ you don't get adverts. Just reruns of previous races and the odd interview.

Yes, I always did/do watch in Discovery+... although there were no adverts, there was no extra content last night like there has been in previous seasons, they could have done their BIRBEL questions that they rushed through at the end after telling everybody to ask them all night but decided to go for adverts instead. It was also a very poor "after show" from the GP at the weekend... I don't know why but I always expect better from Eurosport, I should have learned by now!

Thing is though, if Emil and Doyley rode at 1&2 the most they could get in their three rides is 15 points between them - where as if they don’t ride together, they could potentially get 18 from three rides

Where as 5-1s are always great to see, they could contribute more separately

Good point... there are only so many points to be scored in every meeting. But it's how and when you get those points, having your other big hitter at 5 means they're riding with a reserve and are only likely to get a 3-3. R/R at 5 may well do a similar job... it's all a matter of opinion of course.

Good meeting, well done to Birmingham on getting that first win. Don't think they are too far away from a decent side, if only they could find a genuine number 1.

Thought it was strange not to award the last heat but luckily it didn't make a difference, would have been a cruel way to miss out if Bewley had won that and they then lost the super-heat!

Great to see Tom Brennan step up to the plate (twice) in that last race, I think most (me) probably had him down as coming in at the back in 15

I think you must have been watching a different meeting? there was plenty of passing from where I was watching the meeting?

The consistency of the 'gate' positions are always up for question...but it also has a lot to do with how the rider handles the first 2 bends on approach!

If riders did/do a track walk, then they would've seen where the dirt was/wasnt? they wouldn't need to have to ride it to find out?

Pawlicki going down gave BV a 2nd bite of the cherry, had he stayed on B'ham would still have won! ....may be he thought that the race would be awarded?

Would like to know why it wasnt? the refereeing has been poor this season! Why no warning for Kurtz moving at the start?

Hoping Brennan/Worrall can pass a bit of 'track set-up' knowledge, when B'ham visit BV next week!

Hopefully with the new averages out tomorrow it'll give you guys a bit more scope to rearrange the team riding order as Milik has been hopelessly out of his depth riding at Number 1. Whether the management will have the nous to get the riding order more balanced is another question though.

Well the evidence is that the self belief was there. The early signs are that it may be returning, which many fans, me included, would welcome, warmly.

Absolutely! There's nothing more frustrating than seeing a rider not ride to his full potential, there are few better consistent starters in the game

He’s seemed to have  crumbled in the Premiership over the last few years no matter which team he’s ridden for.  Looks like he’s used to winning races in the Championship for fun, but when it comes to Premiership he struggles against both the riders he beats week in week out in Championship and also the top boys in the Premiership  which seems to play with his head a bit and that’s when you see the throttling off/bottling first beds and then the axe comes around and he gets into that vicious circle of moving between clubs after only a month or two as we’ve seen over last few seasons.

6 minutes ago, False dawn said:

I think there is a lot of truth in what you say. I've seen other riders suffer from "This is the Premiership, I can't possibly win". It was very telling, listening to Tom Brennan in interview last night. He said something like, "You pull up to the gate and it doesn't matter who else is there. They're all just riders that can be beaten". I like that.

He did qualify for the GP series by right though which seems to poo poo that theory, so the self belief should be there. What I find more interesting is the fact that he's been moved on from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belle Vue after quite long stints at those clubs, so there must be something that made those clubs not fancy him, especially at CL level where normally clubs Number 1's tend to stay with clubs for a long long time, unless it's Chris Harris who seems to like to get himself fixed up as early as possible with the first club to make him an offer

I agree. Doyle and Emil at 1 n 5 in heat 13 is when they usually kill the oppositions hopes of a victory.

You'd think that "Smiler" Hawkins might try a "Dickson" Emil/Doyley partnership at 1 and 2 to potentially get 4 5-1's, potentially worth 16 race points

    11 minutes ago, MP78 said:

It does seem a strange one putting Ellis at 5, I can only assume they want to pair Dan T up with Doyle to take the pressure off a bit in 3 of his rides perhaps?
