    Tyburn Gallows

I remember that execution-my dad took me!!
  6. OK I was a Newport person-but my favorite away track was definitely Cradley Heath. Why? Because of the great people.I recall going there in Oct 1964 on a supporters coach for the 2nd leg of the PL Knockout Cup-Newport lost the meeting but won by 2 pts. on aggregate. After the meeting we all went to a pub near by-would anyone recall the likely name?? -it was full of Speedway people and they were great. CH was always special to Newport-the opening meeting in 64 was against CH(we lost 38-40)-everyone hated Ivor Brown and CH in general-but the CH people were wonderful. There was nice food at the stadium(pork sandwiches??)-it was a misty October night in 64 and everything was perfect-I went back several times to CH-the last for old times sake in the 90's from Canada. Not the same tho'-too many ghosts present. In the sixties weren't there stone seats in front of the bar near the pits??.I regret greatly the loss of Cradley speedway and its wonderful history. Having said that I think the classiest track I visited was Sheffield(are u there TigerTom)-perfectly prepared-again super people.Anyone else have memories of favorite tracks visited-I realise its too much to hope for that any away fans would recall Somerton Park with affection-but you must admit that there was wonderful camaraderie among speedway supporters of that era-home and away. I would be particularly interested in Railwayend's thoughts on this-plus of course all the usuals(even you Brian Hamilton!!!!!!!!)

    Dave Lanning

Seeing the item on West Ham and the picture of W.Ham 65 made we wonder whether Dave Lanning is still involved with speedway or what is he up to-I guess Dave would be about 65 or 66 now-what a showman. Also I think all the riders in that picture are still with us other than Ken M. and Reg T. , right?

    Defunct Track Pictures

Without being pedantic the Cardiff track was actually called Penarth Road Stadium-Penarth at that time was a separate town just outside Cardiff. So its Penarth Road Stadium, not Penarth Stadium.

    Oldest Surviving World Finalist

Hopefully someone will find out Split's true age-and at the same time remind him that many people remember him with affection even after all this time.
  14. I am wondering who the oldest surviving World Finalist is-think its Cyril, but could be Louis Lawson I guess-anyone top Cyril in age-he's gotta be well into his eighties.(Also possibly Mr.Watson (Colin/Cliff??) who was in the 1949 WF??

    Oldest Surviving World Finalist

Anybody here know Reg Fearman or any ex riders on Costa del Sol-if they see Split they can ask him-1924 sounds better than 1921 but how could we find out. Also does anyone know if Cliff Watson is still alive?

Anybody see the old movie"THE THIRD MAN" with Orson Welles.Just like Harry Lime , I think one night a cat will cross the road to a dark door, you'll see a pair of shoes in the door way and then a car will drive by and the headlights will pick out Garry -and he'll have a smile on his face!!Remember folks you heard it here first!!

    Help Please! - Brummies.

Yes its definitely Arthur Payne-in my original comment I did not realise there was more of the picture to the right(it wasn't all showing on my computer) so the guy I thought was standing on the far right was actually the one in from Arthur( I know !! I know !!! I'm a technopeasant!!)

    Help Please! - Brummies.

I stand to be corrected but surely that's not Arthur Payne-wonder if one of them is one of the Tolleys?? This is a tough challenge for sure.
