    Coventry 2016

From the CET for those who may be interested but can't access it: More details have been revealed about a potential new stadium for Coventry Bees speedway team. Stadium bosses say they have identified the “perfect site” as the Bees looks for a new home after 69 years at Brandon. Their existing track is set to be demolished in November and replaced with 250 new homes after it was sold by stadium owner Avtar Sandhu. But team owner Mick Horton told the Telegraph he remained “hopeful” a new home could be in place by the start of the 2017 season. Now, stadium boss Jeremy Heaver has called on Coventry City Council, Warwickshire County Council and Rugby Borough Council to give their backing to plans for a new ‘eco-friendly’ stadium for speedway and stock car racing. Mr Heaver revealed the location was away from residential areas and neighboured a farm which produces meat. The land in question sits on green belt withing Rugby Borough Council’s boundary, but it owned by Coventry council. Sources say the site identified is not in Ansty, Coombe Abbey or on land around Coventry Gateway - which is predominantly in Warwick District. The Telegraph understands the new site is located somewhere on the Rugby side of the A46 between Binley Woods and Tollbar Island. Mr Heaver said: “The site we’ve identified is a perfect location, I’m sure when the public find out they will think it’s a perfect location too, and the geography of it makes it very user-friendly for what we want to do. “Government guidelines say one of the permitted things you can do with green belt is build outdoor sporting centres, providing there is a local need. “The difficulty we have now is that there is no local need, because we’ve got an existing stadium, so you go round in circles and realise the reason why places have closed and not been replaced – there’s no local need whilst the stadium exists, and once it’s gone, so is any future investment. “Brandon is closing. We don’t own the stadium any more, and we have until November to pack our bags and find a new home. “But until we close and it’s demolished, there is no local need, and until there’s local need it doesn’t get considered as being relevant to build a new one - that’s the way the planning law is structured. “We’re trying to break that circle, and we’re going to need some help. We need people to get behind what we’re trying to do, and fairly soon we’ll be appealing for people to write to Rugby to demonstrate that they do support a new stadium, and that they don’t want Coventry’s motorsport heritage to disappear. “We can cut through the red tape if we can show local need, and I believe we can do that.” Mr Heaver said the proposals would incorporate a renewable energy policy and earth mounds to disguise the stadium minimise the impact of noise. Methanol for the bikes would be created on-site, rain-water would be captured for internal use and the stadium would feature solar panels and LED lighting, whilst a neighbouring farm could supply meat for catering. Heaver said: “Nowadays, if you want to do anything that’s not 100 per cent environmentally correct, you have to start taking into account the activity you’re doing. “We are motorsport so we are noisy and we do contaminate the air, so we have to look at it in a slightly different way. “The site is absolutely the right one, we don’t want it to go wrong, and it’s time to start talking about it.”

Thanks Lisa. Do you come up to Brandon when Poole are riding against Coventry? If so, can you give Matt Ford a lift?

Great news if it all comes off - do you reckon we can get it built before Swindon's new stadium?!! A smaller, purpose built stadium will have lots of benefits, not least the fact that the overheads for the stadium should be much lower making it more viable for the smaller crowds at meetings these days.

    Poole 2016

Obviously not then, unless he overdid it with the champagne!!
  5. Well said Shawn, fully agree with you. This is a great lineup.

    Poole 2016

Could be a risk of cancellation due to burst water pipes this time of year. If it gets cancelled after round 10 you don't get your money back!!
  7. This looks to be a stronger line-up than last year so let's hope Bomber gets the support (and weather) he deserves and it is an excellent crowd on the day.
  8. He won the one held at Poole too didn't he? Edit. Brum. I was thinking of the New Year Classic meeting.
  9. I was wondering the same thing.

    Coventry 2016

Yes indeed. Did make me think a bit after that happened. I know we are getting off topic now but it is close season! Interesting article from someone that was on it when it crashed here: https://open.abc.net.au/explore/46025#credits

    Coventry 2016

Went on the big dipper at Battersea Funfair about 2 weeks before the tragic accident!
  12. Yes agreed it was very poignant seeing PC donning blue leathers and also the No1 England race jacket. Regarding H&S, the speed PC went round the track I would have thought the perceived danger would have been low. It would be nice to see riders parading without helmets - presumably they could only go at a similar speed as PC before it would be seemed dangerous!

  14. Hope fully this will work: https://www.icloud.com/attachment/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fcvws.icloud-content.com%2FB%2FAY3xxys2NW0gaCTeFETjzjPw7qStAXX2SbaieRGKMBys_V3Ofz5n6RJB%2F%24%7Bf%7D%3Fo%3DAm73wdHFBUUCJtxtq1dBCeNUiCVz1s6Kp_ORTNlB3v_1%26v%3D1%26x%3D3%26a%3DBfS1dnjjHyPSA4L-MAEA_wHIAP8MoZTd%26e%3D1454956864%26k%3D%24%7Buk%7D%26fl%3D%26r%3D3B06F9E1-2AAF-4242-8C1C-B684F24934EE-1%26ckc%3Dcom.apple.largeattachment%26ckz%3D7B56D900-AF02-475B-800F-25FA9A75CF0E%26p%3D41%26s%3DgjR4ZSyxImzSinXECCdf3TH8osQ&uk=5VRm-GOA-9PxP5aTZDGqUQ&f=IMG_0517.MOV&sz=46644639
  15. I have added them directly to the thread now for easier viewing. No I won't files too big!!
  16. Those statistics are amazing given the opposition at the time. From the eulogy by Eric Boocock and interviews with some former team mates, sounds like he was ruthless with gate positions!! I know Peter York comes in for criticism on here but I thought he was very good today.
  17. Thank you very much for the replies. Hopefully I can get there a bit earlier anyway.
  18. Thanks for this info. I will be going along with friends. I can't really get there before 11.00. Can anyone tell be at what time the committal of the ashes will be? Many thanks.

Maybe it's the 'wind up banter' that is whipping them up into a frenzy Steve. Not that you would do that!!

    Poole 2016

I thought you said Poole don't pay top wages in the EL and riders come to ride for the Pirates for other reasons. Make your mind up!
  23. Could be Starman, he has got quite aggressive recently - then again would he know how to set up a second account!!

    Coventry 2016

Agreed. If they do read the forum let's hope they are determined to prove the negative comments were off the mark!
