  1. I, and many others, were not naive enough to believe there would not be some financial pain in the short/medium term but, on balance, thought the advantages outweighed the monetary cost.

The EU is struggling to keep itself together and may well implode - the Euro cannot last given the current mix of countries that are tied to it and how inflexible it is for them.

That is all well and good Tony but it didn't stop the flower importer going bust recently and all the raw material I buy for my engineering company has gone up but I can't pass on the increase. Transport costs are already rising too. What advantages will my business/me see?

  2. From BBC news website:

The former boss of Sainsbury's, Justin King, has given an indication of the problem, saying that shoppers should expect higher prices because supermarkets will not be able to absorb the extra cost of imported goods.

According to media reports of a conference speech by Mr King, he said: "Retailers' margins are already squeezed. So there is no room to absorb input price pressures and costs will need to be passed on.

"But no one wants to be the first to break cover. No business wants to be the first to blame Brexit for a rise in prices. But once someone does, there will be a flood of companies, because they will all be suffering."

Leading retail analyst Richard Hyman told the BBC: "This shines a light on something that is going to be happening all the time.

"The problem is that retailers can't just put up their prices and get away with it.

"Oversupply of retailers means that for the past 24 months there has been food price deflation. What makes them think they can just push prices higher?" he added.

  3. No doubt there are many stories of others who export and are doing very well.

It is a pity about the flower importer but anybody who knew what they were doing would have had a currency exchange rate clause in any contract when dealing with purchases or sales abroad.

Others that have made money are those that have invested in the right stocks and shares, 9% growth in one investment last week was ok and many others attained 4-6% and lot more than that since June.

Ah, that will be ok then!

The financial services sector does ok - again, but real people lose their jobs!!

  4. As with any major event some lose and others win, people will have to adapt to the changing situation.

Really? Like the flower importer a couple of weeks ago that had fixed 6 months contracts to supply flowers to supermarkets from Holland etc and with the current exchange rate found that he was selling them for less that he was getting paid so his company went into administration. He didn't adapt very well!!

  5. No, only if you keep moaning about a democratic vote that has taken place you have the option to leave.

It is not necessarily about moaning. It's about having a debate that makes sure Britain gets a good deal - that's the most important thing going forward. Just because the result of the vote was to leave the EU doesn't mean those who did not want to leave cannot make their views known and taken into account.

  6. If people want to wallow in self pity, not get themselves an education, sit on their arse and expect the state to fund their lifestyle they don't get any sympathy from me.

Plenty of opportunities if people want them but too many people want it gift wrapped.

The Queen still brings more kudos to this country then you could ever imagine and if people want to come and see her and spend their monies here because London is a great place then good on her.

My family are from a council estate, we all worked hard, all have good jobs, we pay tax/NIC, we didn't have a family holiday, or new clothes, we were below the poverty line but I am not moaning or self-righteous.

I get on with it and so does everyone else. Your anti-Roylist anti-capitalist stance is amazing. I bet you own your own home, nice car, have a good job, go on holiday.

How much thought do you give to the poor then?

    Anyway, back to the topic...

Totally agree with your first sentence and bringing it back to the topic in question, here lies the problem with immigration. No-one seemingly wants to do the low skill/paid jobs that immigrants are happy to be employed in so how do we fill those jobs?

  7. I THOUGHT this was a speedway forum ... but since you ask. The reinstatement of British sovereignty, the right of the British people to make and administer their own laws and not be subject to unelected officials elsewhere.

No more lies as you put it from the leave camp as the remain (every time Osborne opened his mouth)

Anyone could see through it ... well, over 17 million people didn't and the reason there was no economic plan was because Cameron never believed the British people would have the audacity to vote to leave.

Plenty of big companies like Dyson and JCB who believe Britain can prosper outside the EU and at the same time control immigration which only a complete idiot, which I presume you are not, would call racism.

The problem is many companies like mine in the manufacturing sector are already suffering with considerable lower order books due to the uncertainty. 2 of my customers are already making plans to relocate their businesses in Europe. The question I have is; what will Britain look like when we 'get back our sovereignty'? Precisely who will not be allowed to come into the country to reduce immigration? These are very important questions and no-one seems to know the answers but many businesses are suffering whilst this debacle rumbles on.

I can also name plenty of big companies such as Virgin who think otherwise!

  8.

No, I don't suppose we will. But, it appears there are many places in the UK that are not affected by the numbers we have in this neck of the woods. So I could always up sticks and move to elsewhere, at the moment.

But that was not the only consideration in our vote. There are many things. Even our own family had different views. It seemed the younger generation wanted to stay while the older ones wanted out. They always have lived in this environment and know no other, whereas us older ones can remember what is was once like.

I'm of the belief once it has got sorted we will be far better off in every way. We can dictate our own country and deal with whoever. Some of the ruling of this EU is farcical, and we have to pay through the nose to be part of it. No, the sooner we're out the better....

My point is GRW is that what concerns me is that immigration is the no1 issue that most people that voted to leave that I have spoken to and they won't get what they have voted for. But individuals and companies are going to have to go through a lot of pain and suffering to achieve what?!!!!

  9. I thought the Brexit Vote was a wonderful result. For us living in East Anglia we had lost out town, we had lost our society, taken over by the number of migrant. I'm all for anything in moderation but the numbers here are mind boggling.

When I voted to leave, believe or not, I didn't give speedway a thought..... It was not that important...

Do you really think you are going to get your town back, your society back etc because I don't. They are here to stay. And it won't be so easy as many think to reduce immigration either.

  10. The way averages are sorted out is the same for all teams. Agreed the BSPA have made a rod for their own backs with the reserves and second strings. It has been very stupid on reflection and must be sorted.

However, I state again it is the same for both teams.

Gavin, you say in your post that Kyle took the world champion from the back. Correct, but he is only a second string riding at No 4

Are you suggesting that there may be only 2 teams in the EL next year?! :o

  11. In your humble opinion. I think he is a great ambassador for speedway, does a lot for charity, a great speedway rider and a thoroughly nice chap (although I don't like his tattoos but I can live with that).

Fully agree with you Steve0. I have enjoyed watching him in the EL this season and bringing a bit of theatre to the sport. Lets face it - it needs it!!

  12. So now that Brandon has not been included on the local plan Sandhu is upset that Horton has done a deal to run the stadium for the next 3 years, effectively replacing Sandhu & Heaver. To me it looks as though Horton has stolen a march and given Coventry Speedway the best chance its had in a few years of surviving.

Hmmm! Interesting - it does look like this could be the case!
